Video: Share your life with Facebook Timeline for Android

timeline mobile

While many of our readers have been worried about Facebook sharing too much information, others see that as a great feature. One of the latest ways of sharing your life with your family and friends is a feature called Facebook Timeline. It took a bit of time, but Facebook has just announced that Timeline is available for Android as well as on their mobile site.

Facebook Timeline allows you to share your life with others, in a historical, sequential timeline. It collects all of your information since you opened your Facebook account and organizes it by year, showing all of your life quests in an organized way. After signing up for this feature, you can go ahead and edit the timeline as you please, including adding things from before there ever was a Facebook. You can take off posts, add posts, select which groups can see them and change the way things look around your Timeline.

This is all now available from your Android device, and can be accessed via the recently updated Facebook app. Simply update to version 1.8.1, and you will be able to access your Timeline with no problem (if you have signed up for it already).

Here are the other updates that come with version 1.8.1:

  • Navigate anywhere, fast: Get to your groups, apps, pages, and settings with a single press
  • Search and you will discover: Look through friends, subscribers, apps, and pages
  • See your friends tags on pictures and zoom: New photo viewing experience
  • Faster notifications: Get alerted in real time with new push notifications
  • Games & Apps: Play games and access your favorite apps on the go
  • Access to mobile timeline (If you already have a timeline)
  • Access to friend lists and subscriptions

Go download the new version of Facebook to enjoy the new timeline feature. What do you guys think? Is Timeline a cool feature, or would you rather keep the course of your life away from the online community?

I don’t think I want people to have easy access to my early years of Facebook

    • Anthony E

Same here, lol. Time to make a new profile :P.

    • Billy

Yeah. I understand that. However, you can edit what shows up in your timeline before publishing it. I found there wasn’t as much ‘bad’ stuff as I though.

Overall, I really like the timeline.

      FB Link for more: http://www.facebook.com/about/timeline

      • Anthony E

One at a time, like in their BS auto logged messaging app, or bulk deletions? Cuz one at a time is a pain.

        • Billy

          :( Good point.

One at a time amounting to (2) clicks per entry. A checkbox and mass delete would have been much nicer … or the ability to just say .. start timeline at X point (I assume that isn’t there).

      • stenzor

That would take far, far too long.. plus I’d end up removing so much stuff that there would be no content left!

    • latouffe

I like the new update. Pretty handy and neat looking.
I already edited my facebook timeline. I dont want my actual gf to have a heartattack :P

      • http://www.desean.net desean

The new timeline looks nice but need some time to get used to it.

    • pritams

It’s actually better than what I had previously thought..go give it a try and see for yourself…

  • BiGMERF

im not going to lie, pretty nice update. works great on my GNex.. To many old friends and faily to say a complete bye to FB

    • BiGMERF

*family .. A&me desperately needs a timed edit feature.. Clark?

      • Billy

Yes. I would also love to see this … as it is now I just leave my typos unless they distort the message. If someone wants to go grammar/spelling nazi on me for a comment .. then so be it.

      • Thomas Biard

I whole heartedly agree. I actually sent a message a while back with the same issue. I still think AndroidandMe is the best Android Blog site IMHO.

        • BiGMERF

we all know its the best.. thats why we all here.

      • stenzor

Yes please… I think about a minute is enough

        • BiGMERF

just enough to read your post.lol. obviously we are to lazy to proof read, well in my case i am trigger happy and forget

          • http://ArtisticAbode.com BetterWithRoot

I think if you have a high enough &Me score…85 or above you wouldn’t be ninja editing.

I’ve been begging for this too. :)

Not feeling timeline, though I’m sure lots of people would love it. I’d want to know I’m happy with everything that’s in it but feel no urge to spend the time checking it all.

  • http://keridel.blogspot.com keridel

I’ve had a look at it. it looks really nice on the app as well.

and suspicously like the people app on ICS..

  • ArticulateFool

I wonder how interesting tgese timelines will be to the next generation that have been on FB their whole lives.

  • thechad

Facebook is doing a good job of keeping their image fresh. If they don’t they would end up like myspace.

  • Thomas Biard

I do appreciate Facebook trying to keep on the cutting edge, but I have a feeling that this won’t be as beloved as it may seem. Also, for those of us who don’t post EVERYTHING we do on the Book, our timeline will be short, mundain, and essentially quite boring to someone creeping for the afteroon

  • http://tinkerdad.blogspot.com xfaith

Guess I will give it a whirl, if and when it starts working on my PC. Will update the app just to check it out and see if its available.

    • krisguy

I’m not too sure about it myself. Ever since G+ came out, I’ve lost time for Facebook.

  • Billy

I like the new timeline but still really love G+. I wish more people I knew used G+ … it has so many wonderful features.

I think there is room in the world for both. :)

  • zyphbear

I may be part of the minority, but I have no intention of using TimeLine. If there is anything I want to share, I will do it myself outside of Facebook.

Though does anyone else think they are just throwing all kinds of different projects out there hoping something will work? After all, they introduced TimeLine (to share your life like a scrapbook with big important events), but at the same time released the Friend’s Stream function (with streaming activities like songs and running). Two totally opposite ends of the spectrum in time.

  • Martjn2

Facebook border: “mark what should why update on facebook”
Mark zuckerberg: “Update? naaa, let’s just f*ck everything up”
Facebook border: “Excelent” “He’s a genious”

Pretty inovative though, but folks accounts ain’t that old :P

    • http://ArtisticAbode.com BetterWithRoot

I can see this as a preventative future proofing measure. Everyone is on FB. The marketers love it, all that data in one place. I honestly don’t foresee FB crashing anytime in the next two years…but then again neither did MySpace. At least FB doesn’t allow you to create a “geocities page” that loads horribly slow. Too many people messing with code on MySpace that shouldn’t have been.

This acts as an instant nostalgia machine, I can see it catching on. In a couple of years you can look back and go, “Oh yeah, that party at Racheals was the best!”

  • http://ArtisticAbode.com BetterWithRoot

I signed up for Facebook. I still have yet to post anything on there. I don’t know if it’s due to lack of friends, or if it’s me thinking that people really don’t care about what I do. I am thinking a combination of the two.

    • azswift

That will probably be a requirement for one of the upcoming days of Tegra. You’ll be posting a story, or liking Android & Me. Everyone already knows I’m a geek so they won’t be surprised when I share that kinds stuff.

      • http://ArtisticAbode.com BetterWithRoot

The thing that I like about this site is that they don’t do too much FB. They seem to be more of a Twitter kinda place.

And if they do happen to do a FB contest, I am ready. = )

  • jamal

Its nice of them to give users 7 days to review their profile. Good idea.

  • Alexander drzfr3shboialex

No support for ICS? They need it -.-

  • teecruz

the mobile timeline rolled out for me last night too!
    it’s kinda cute. i love it. :)

  • HoLfElDeR

It’s nice update, i love it it is so easy to search, friends groups, events. nicely done FB

  • Jorge Eslava

I wouldn’t want people to have easy access to my early years of Facebook =)

  • Soharang

I like new update for timeline. It’s very awesome.

  • Fahad

Any one else not want this at all? I feel like FB has ventured to far away from its roots and over the years has become more and more complex. I miss the simplicity of what it used to be…

  • http://www.youtube.com/djmeas DjMeas

I know some people are afraid of easy access your your past, but I’m personally enjoying going through my past. I can’t believe I nearly when through half my profile back to 2009. It was great to see things happening day by day like a digital diary :)

    • http://www.youtube.com/djmeas DjMeas

      Went*

    • Futureboy

I am probably one of the last few people on the planet not on Facebook, but I like the idea and would love to see a “digital diary” type app somewhere other than facebook. G+ maybe? Just somewhere that is not a startup and will be around for a long time. I just have a wicked bad memory and it would be nice to have a nice journal/photo journal to look back on.

      • SGB101

facebook wil be around for a long time yet, in ten years face book will be the internet.

youll either be in on or out, more and more you need a facebook username, to gain access to sites. it is slowly sucking us all in.

google is doing the exact same with G+, and incorporating more logins to use certain stuff, once you have a google account, your auto a G+ member, even if you dont use it, this spoofs the g+ user figures, the higher that figure the more google can charge for adds.

  • Hall Lo

Facebook is doing awesome on the recent updates :D

  • phaet2112

Should read “Share your life with Advertisers thanks to Facebook Timeline for Android”

  • JuMPdroid

Not a big fan of Timeline. I really don’t want everyone to be able to see everything. I had to spend a lot of time weeding through things.

  • beatrixasdfghjk.

Well, I enabled it way back in September or something, and I must say, it makes it tremendously easy to do all that stalking work, although it also makes it easy to cover up all those embarrassments from years gone by ;DD.

I think Facebook’s launch of timeline was more screwed than the Galaxy Nexus.
    They said they were going to release it on like October 1 or something, and it never even went out to anyone except fake devs (;

  • aranea

Too much information is already on Facebook. That’s why I disabled my account. But I have to admit sometimes I hear it calling me back.

    • donger

      lol

  • jefflarkin

Oh wow, that’s a nice update. I hadn’t noticed this change.

  • SGB101

the time lime looks and feels really good, the new app took me a week or so to get use to, even for a tech geek like myself, i thought the new lay out was abit confusing.

the time line on the mobile app just make sense, it looks so much better than the old home page.

its just a shame i stopped using FB in 2007/8, so my time line is a little empty.

  • Adryan maldonado

Meh not much of a facebooker

  • http://ilysespieces.tumblr.com Ilyse Rose

I really use Facebook for events and birthdays and sharing funny pictures with a few friends who don’t use Tumblr. It seems kind of Tumblr-y to me, too.
It looks good, though. I just don’t think I’ll get much use out of it.

  • McLovin

    Facebook fatigued here.

  • lokidokie

Pretty cool, I actually just enabled Timeline for myself.
Forced me to have a long hard look at myself…

The design of the Facebook timeline is a huge step forward IMO. I really like the magazine-style layout

  • eliander mendoza

so i don’t get to pick if it can be publish or not well my friend that right there to me its a fail i wanted to do this and keep it personal forever…. a man can only dream or make those dreams true himself.

  • jenskristian

I really like it. Nice to see Facebook prioritize Android.

  • vid500

Facebook may be great for the communication with friends and shearing staff, but some things are just to much for the www. I personally don’t won’t to share all my life chronologically with all the world, some things are just for some people.
And personally I rather prefer Google+, but have to convince my friends though, it has a much better way of sharing and choosing with whom.

  • Louis A

This’s something on facebook that I will not do. Touch info already shared as it is.

  • Lee Swanson

Visually, I like the look of the Timeline redesign. I thought the original FB Wall was boring. Timeline gives at least some personalize options.
