The Sony Xperia Ion, one of the most anticipated devices of CES, has just been detailed as a PlayStation Certified LTE phone set to grace AT&T sometime in Q2.
Launching with Android 2.3 Gingerbread in Q2 in the US, the Xperia Ion will stand with the best in the smartphone display category, boasting a 4.65-inch 1280×720 HD Reality display. With Samsung’s Super AMOLED, LG’s True HD IPS and Sony’s Reality displays, consumers will have a wide variety of HD displays to choose from in the first half of 2012 alone.
Much like competing manufacturers’ HD devices, the Ion comes with a dual-core processor (1.5 GHz to be exact), LTE, 16 GB of internal storage and a rear-facing camera capable of capturing 1080p video. The Ion may still stand out in the camera crowd, however, with Sony’s 12MP Exmor-R that features fast-capture for taking pictures on the fly.
No pricing information for the Xperia Ion has been revealed, but with a Q2 release, it shouldn’t be long until we find out.
This CES has already been jam packed with HD displays, dual-core devices and some of the world’s thinnest gadgets to date. Does the Xperia Ion have what it takes to be a success? Sony hasn’t had a whole lot of luck in the US so far, but it may finally be time for that to change. If any device could lead the charge, it would be the Ion.Show Press Release
