Leap Days don’t come often, so Verizon is discounting its best devices by $100

Who says Leap Days are not special? They only come once every four years, and the best way to celebrate it just may be by purchasing a new phone or tablet. If you’re in the market for a new device, Verizon is holding a very good deal tomorrow, allowing you to save $100 on the best 4G LTE devices available.

The image includes the best smartphones, like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Droid RAZR and the HTC Rezound, among others. The Leap Day sale website also includes an image of the Motorola Droid Xyboard, if you want to get your hands on an LTE tablet. If you have been looking to get one of these devices tomorrow might just be the day.

Some of these devices are currently listed at prices lower than $100, so they might very well be completely free, but we will have to wait until tomorrow to find out for sure. But you could get a Galaxy Nexus for $200, instead of $300, which is a great deal.

If you prefer working straight with Verizon, this might be something to consider. But do remember that other retailers have awesome discounts, as well. For example, Amazon has the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for $99, as well as the Motorola Droid RAZR. So shop carefully.

If you have been saving that upgrade for a good day, tomorrow might just be it! You can go ahead and set a reminder straight from Verizon’s site. Are any of you taking advantage of this sale?

    • Joel

      LMAO! sry man.

    • Slith

They may honor it if you call in directly to customer support. I am going to call on my two week old Nexus for sure. Can’t hurt to ask!

      • Slith

Called Verizon and although I didn’t qualify for this promotion there was another one that reduced my bill $10.00 a month.

Looks like a pretty good deal, although I expect most of these phones will see a price drop by $100 very soon anyways. But still, better than not saving $100!

  • spazby

    Sweet deal!

  • GeauxLSU

I wonder if I can also use my new every 2 $50 discount on top of the $100 discount. Might just have to finally upgrade from my OG Droid to either the Nexus or Droid 4 if so.

    • thekaz

yeah, I would convince my wife to upgrade to Droid 4 with this deal, but I don’t see the droid 4 on the photo :(

wonder if I can convince her she doesn’t really need a keyboard and to go for the Nexus..?

      • LukeT32

My mother went from the OG DROID to the Razor and liked it. The DROID 4 came out within her 14 day window and she decided to keep the razor.

      • thekaz

looks like it is all 4G phones, including Droid4

    • LukeT32

Usually you can bundle promos like this with VZW.

      • GeauxLSU

Doesn’t look like I can bundle it online. Wonder if they will let me in the store. I was planning on going in to get a hands on with both devices.

  • Trinhbo

So Verizon started the stupid trend of charging $100 more for current Android smart phones. Now they are discounting $100 and making it look like they are doing us a favor?

    • classic_hero

      yup basically

  • Greg

The HTC Rezound is currently $99 on their site… Does that mean it will be free tomorrow?

  • eazyean1

Guys should i wait for something elae or geyt the galaxy nexus?

    • sunrise

I think at this point in time you should wait until Samsung makes an announcement on Galaxy S3 and confirms the specs and availability.

Some things to consider when shopping for your next phone(at least what I personally will be looking for in my next phone):
-CPU architecture is it dual core A9, quad core A9, Krait S4, or the fast dual core A15s or even possible quad core A15. Remember the number of cores beyond 2 don’t really matter at this point. A dual core A15 will probably be faster than a quad core A9. Ti-OMAP 5 will also be a beast.

-GPU. Who makes the GPU, how is the performance.

-RAM. Minimum 1GB but I rather see new phones with 1.2-1.5 RAM

-How much memory? I think minimum 32GB if there is NO microSD. If there is a microSD then 16GB internal with expandable microSD is even better.

-Screen technology? non-pentile sAMOLED plus hd? Pixels Per Inch? Visibility under the sun?
-Look at the mAH rating of the battery. Higher the better.
      -Removable battery?

-Does the phone include both GPU/GLONASS. Having both improves accuracy.

-megapixel rating of the front facing camera
-good optics and image processing of the rear cam

      -antenna reception?
      -speakerphone output?
      -clear voice quality?

-xda developer support for custom ROMS
-Locked bootloader? You don’t want this.

good point, but I played this waiting game on the Razr, Rezound and then GNEX before I bought a new phone.. the thing with Android phones is you can always wait another couple of months (or less) for a “better” phone to come out.

I love the GNex, and would tell anyone to jump in at $100 off…

        • rfvgyhn

Exactly. You shouldn’t wait for the awesome phone that’s just around the corner. There’s always something awesome just around the corner and you’ll never end up getting anything.

      • eazyean1

        great info !! thanks alot

  • Greg Bulmash

That $100 discount is worth $4.17 a month over the life of your 2-year committment to a plan costing at minimum $70 a month (450 minute talk, pay-per-text, 2 gigs data).

  • BigCiX

I wish greedy ass at&t can have deals like this.

  • E-man

GRRRR >:( I bought the galaxy nexus two days ago!! If I would have waited then I could have gotten $100 off!!

  • stepquick

Hmmm that amazon price is extremely tempting, but I like paying $37 a month for what I have, regardless of how dumb my phone is. I love custom os anyways. :D

  • thekaz

Keep in mind if you are grandfathered into unlimited data, you need to buy from Verizon to keep it…

  • cb2000a

They could give me one and I still would not go back.

  • Derek R-C

Does this include the Razor Maxx as well or just the regular Razor?

  • VAStateOfMind

Derek, I just checked Verizon’s site, and the Droid RAZR Maxx *IS ALSO* marked down by $100 to $199 today — I am so kicking myself in the arse, my upgrade date goes live TOMORROW, but VZW won’t let me upgrade to this TODAY… :(

  • itguy426

These deals are always nice, but for guys like myself that like to get things when they come out don’t really ever get to take advantage. I like being able to research and find the phone I like and then buy it. I always end up waiting for it to be released and then it never comes with a discount. I guess it pays to be patient but how patient can a person be.
