Borderlands 2 could be the most amazing Android game ever

[Update] I received a statement from Gearbox’s PR team. It reads as follows, “The news out of PLXLAN is unfounded and Gearbox Software is not developing Borderlands 2 for Android. Per our press release on Wednesday, Borderlands 2 will be available on September 18 for PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. As you know, the new trailer went viral yesterday and has nearly 1 million views as of today — it’s likely what was being shown at PLXLAN on a tablet. Hope this clears up any confusion, please feel free to update your readers.

It’s been awhile since we had a huge blockbuster game to look forward to on Android, but Gearbox Software might be coming to the rescue. This week the Dallas-based developer announced that Borderlands 2, the sequel to their critically acclaimed four-player cooperative shooter-looter, will be coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on September 18th.

“Borderlands 2 is a passion project, through and through,” said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. “The result is a sequel that has improved every successful aspect of Borderlands while innovating with an all-new experience.”

No mention was made of an Android release, but Gearbox Software has already demoed the game running on a Tegra 3 tablet. Until we hear otherwise, we are going to assume that Borderlands 2 is coming to Android.

“The addictive gameplay and shooting and looting mayhem of the first Borderlands is back and better than ever in Borderlands 2, taking the franchise to an entirely new level,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “With more guns, more enemies, more missions, an engaging story and all-new characters, Borderlands 2 promises to bring a new era to gaming this fall.”

Just watch the three minute trailer below and let us know if you would enjoy playing this game on your Android device.

p.s. Hey Gearbox I’m in Dallas too. Hit me up and I’ll come check out your game :)

Borderlands 1 on 360 was awesome. Props to Gearbox for pushing this out on Android. Good luck with storage space because this game is huge, including DLCs and all.

While the graphics are impressive in these more recent Android games, the problem I have is with Controls. Unless they come out with some kind of bluetooth PS2 or XBOX 360 controller that is compatible with Android, then I won’t become an Android gamer.

What someone could do is hook up their phone to a larger screen via HDMI/TV-Out cable then buy a controller to actually not feel so gimped. If you have a tablet, then a larger screen probably isn’t needed.

    • Darkseider

PS3 controller works like a charm.

      • Fulaman

That’s sweet, I meant Playstation controllers in general btw (not just PS2), how do you have your phone set up? connected to a TV, and then a PS2 controller?

    • Vance

I have a generic PS3-like USB controller I have been wanting to try with my Transformer Prime via the keyboard dock. This may be a good solution. I’ve also seen bluetooth controllers on display at ASUS events demonstrating the Prime so the technology is there for sure.

      • Fulaman

I 100% agree, the problem is that some people may only have smartphones and not tablets, so I think a bluetooth controller would be a great means of doing things. since phones don’t have USB ports (though they could add one lol).

All ics phones will have usb host mode unless disabled by manufacturer, so a host mode cable should work

The XBOX 360 controller.works perfectly already.

      • NotRelevent

        The regular one I mean.

    Can’t wait! Wowzers!

  • cthonctic

The first installment was a lot of fun to play co-op on PC. But I already hate shooters on consoles so I really can’t imagine this on tablets (let alone smartphones).
Still, I’m always open for positive surprises, so let’s see what happens.

This game will be the ish and can’t wait to play this game when it comes out.

  • CJ LaFleur

This ithe first step in the right direction. hopefully, we will see developers shifting to android and treating it like its own platform and developing great games for it! It may not overtake consoles, but hopefully this is the beginning of an era. I cant wait for this game to come out!

I like the concept behind Google Music (though I prefer local when I’m out of range of wifi but at work and the gym its awesome), I like the interface both on mobile and inmobile platforms, as it has a nice presentation.

I don’t buy a whole lot of non physical media (yes for a tech guy, I am still set in my ways), but I do once in a while (every few months or so) when I hear something completely awesome and I want it now. But google continues to loose out to Amazon for this need, mainly because their library rarely includes the fresh releases of stuff I want. I do check there often, and aside from more popular things like when Making Monsters by Combichrist record came out or the new Tom Waits, its been rough to find a lot of the less known stuff. Which is a shame.
