Big Google TV announcement coming Monday

google-tv-2-0

Google has posted a rather short and sweet message on Facebook page yesterday, hinting that they would have some big Google TV announcements on Monday. Google’s use of the plural “announcements” suggests Google has a few surprises for us up its sleeves.

While we likely won’t see a major platform refresh, as Google only recently updated the Sony Google TV and Logitech Revue to Android 3.2 Honeycomb, chances are we’ll see Google release some details as to the mysterious Android Hub, Google’s rumored foray into the home entertainment scene. Another possible, but less likely scenario is that we could see Google take the wraps off the Personal Communications Device that passed through the FCC a few days ago.

Regardless of what Google unveils tomorrow, we’re excited to see what comes next out of Google’s TV operation. With Eric Schmidt suggesting that Google TV would proliferate the market by the middle of 2012, they must have something pretty impressive coming out of the TV business line.

We’ll bring you updates from Mountain View tomorrow as we learn more. What do you think Google will be announcing?

Excited for the wireless music device

    • legitimate007

      OK WHERE IS THE ANNOUNCEMENT????

  • Paul

Can’t wait to see how Apple attacks this one…

    • FalKirk

It is rather foolish to ask how Apple is going to respond to something when we don’t know what that something is yet.

      • asdfa

They will just sue them for using their idea of having a tv be a visual entertainment device.

        • dingobully

          LOL no kidding.

      • JonGarrett

“It is rather foolish to ask how Apple is going to respond to something when we don’t know what that something is yet.”

dude, apple sues against products when they are unveiled at trade shows !! **Galaxy Tab 7.7**

      • Owain

        Wow, dude… dull weekend?

    • AbusedTortoise

I am pretty sure Apple has already filed a law suit stating that they invented this 5 years ago and Google stole it from them. Also, I believe the courts in Germany already banned this announcement

    • RRR

If Apple will not attack wait for Samsung TV next. ROTFL

Then DELL TV, HP TV, MICROSOFT TV, HTC TV, LG TV, NOKIA TV, SONY TV, TOSHIBA TV, PANASONIC TV, SHARP TV, LENOVO TV. …

      worth attacking actually

      LOLOLOL

  • damambt

This A&M! Why do people always talk about apple in the comments? Who cares about apple.

    • Jorge Vieira

They cant help themselves. That part of why i think guest accounts shouldnt exist

    • hinds

      Not me that’s for sho!

    • FalKirk

I’ll take a crack at defending the mention of Apple in the comments.

Right now Apple is the largest company in the world and everything they do affects everyone else in tech. That’s why people always talk about Apple and that’s why everyone cares about Apple.

From 1995 to 2005, Microsoft was the big dog. There wasn’t a tech story printed that didn’t mention them. I hated it. But guess what? It was reality. So long as Microsoft was number one, they were going to get mentioned too much.

Don’t like the fact that Apple is mentioned in every story? Then you don’t like reality. Either get used to it or get out. It’s not going to change until Apple is no longer number one.

      • StareClips.com

I can’t wait to see how Apple responds to your comment.

        • legitimalte007

          Lol

        • legitimalte007

Lol now that’s funny thumbs up to that one

      • Mask667

I agree with falkirk. Why hate it? Google and Apple are top US tech companies that affect the consumer world and so it is interesting when they announce new products. Obviously there is competition and therefore in the end we get a better product, whether its Google or Apple. Looking forward to the announcement.

      • delinear

Largest company in the world? Not quite, that honour goes to Walmart. In fact, in terms of revenue, Apple are #46 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_companies_by_revenue (interestingly Samsung are #22 – and a lot is made of the fact that Apple have $80bn in equity at their disposal, but it looks measly compared to Samsung’s $141.1bn).

In terms of pure profit Apple are a little higher up the list – http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/global500/2011/performers/companies/profits/, but still only #20, only two places ahead of Samsung and actually less profitable than Microsoft last year at #10. So Apple are an important player, but they’re certaonly not the be-all and end-all that you seem to think.

        • damambt

droppin’ knowledge on these mutha*****. Take’em to school @delinear!

  • Jorge Vieira

Many i feel like it will be about more integration with the phones and apps.

  • Scott Robertson

I think that it may be the UK announcement that was rumoured a while back. Hopefully anyway!

    • ghost5

I really hope that there is a UK release soon, I’m very bored of WMC and when I had SageTV it crashed too much. My only concern is that there will be no DVR support (until a developer makes an app)

  • legitimate007

I hope google will allow hulu and the major networks, also update its flash app

  • http://www.jeffkibuule.com Jeff

    Facebook? Not Google+?

    • http://www.anthonydomanico.com Anthony Domanico

Yeah, that’s a bit baffling to us as well. I’m sure they announced it on Google+ somewhere as well.

  • ondore

For those of us who do not have LCD at home – what do you think – will this be the right time for a new TV or we should wait for OLED TV? A must have is integrated Google TV and Wifi Direct, of course :-)

    • aranea

You should try to score some glass-free or passive glass 3D TV. Whatever comes from Google will probably come as a separate unit.

  • StareClips.com

Maybe part of the announcement will be DVR-like capabilities?

The Logitech Revue has USB ports which can be used to add an external hard drive to the device. With its current capabilities, a hard drive, and the fact that it is always on… it’s just one update away from being a DVR.

Ooooo! I’m excited! I’ve been thinking about buying Google TV (A New TV with the Sony Bluray) so this announcement couldn’t have come at a better time!

  • ds

I hope it has to do with content for gtv like hulu support!

    • Garrett

Its not google saying no, its hulu not realizing market penetration

  • Memoryaddress

Did we forget the mistake of WebTV already?

  • Dan Dragomir

Why do you think the Facebook page was removed? Perhaps it was a scam?

  • thekaz

I hope any mention of Apple is related only to Apple users crying because their platform is left in the dust by Google…

Can’t wait to see what the announcement is.

  • Nathan D.

Is probably them announcing that they are going to update them to ice cream sandwich and going to show case some new hardware as well and I know when I come to this site tomorrow during lunch they will have all the information I need =)

  • BiGMERF

will be watching for the news !

  • nerdshowandtell.com

I REALLY hope this is something to do with integrating SageTV (which Google purchased last year) into GoogleTV, and new hardware extenders, etc.. Don’t want to pay $400 (when they were $150 new) for SageTV HD300 extenders on ebay.

  • AceoStar

I think they should give it away for free. Sure they’ll take a short term hit, but can you imagine the market penetration they’d get by allowing anyone to get a android at home box. It’d be insane and would do a good deed for all, even if it took some short term losses. Besides, google doesn’t need all that cash, but they -do- want more people buying into the services :D

  • DroidPower

hope they include this feature: use your android phone/tablet as the remote for the google tv (native integration)!!!!

    • legitimalte007

      Can’t you do that now?

    • Baller

Just download the Google TV remote from the market and you can do that now.

  • Shawn Clark

Although i dont have Google TV, Im anticipated to see/hear what they have up their sleeves…Gotta love Google!

  • greeny42

Looks like I’ll be searching for another live stream of the festivities.

  • RRR

    worth attacking for Apple actually

  • MoSDeeb

This is certainly a welcome surprise. Hopefully a new product and another Sony Google TV update

  • chahk

Oh please let it be deals with major content to unblock GTV agent and flash version from their websites.

That, our a less crashy Shockwave plugin.

  • http://www.dainbinder.com Dain Binder

More updated apps? They just announced a new YouTube app http://goo.gl/HPNGR

Hopefully the announcement will be more substantial.

    • honourbound68

disappointed that it wasn’t something big but improvements are improvements and I’ll take them any day of the week. Go Google :)

      • http://www.dainbinder.com Dain Binder

I agree! Just a bit to much hype.

  • Sid

    Personal Communications Device=Nexus Tablet??

  • Adam Snyder

    CAN NOT WAIT

  • autonomousgerm

You know they’re going to announce it now, say it’ll be available “in a few weeks” then in a few weeks say it’ll be available “in a few weeks.” They’ll cycle that a few more times this year, and maaaybe have a closed beta by fall. Realistically looking forward to spring 2013!

  • legitimalte007

    Ughhhhh. Were is the update?
