AT&T announces Rugby Smart release date and pricing

Are you in the market for a rugged Android phone on AT&T? Today the carrier announced the Samsung Rugby Smart, a tough little phone that is waterproof, dust proof and shock resistant. Starting March 4th, the Rugby Smart will go on sale for $99 with 2-year contract and monthly minimum data plan.

“We continue to bring the highest quality devices — the Rugby Smart is the ultimate smartphone to withstand extreme conditions,” said Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile. “AT&T customers are now able to stay connected with a durable smartphone while experiencing even the roughest environment.”

Samsung’s Rugby Smart is built to 810f military spec standards and can be submerged in up to 1m of water for 30 minutes. It can also survive extreme temperatures and high-impacts if dropped.

Highlights of the Rugby Smart include:

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display
  • 5 megapixel camera with 720p video capture
  • 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera
  • 4GB storage, microSD slot
  • 1,650 mAh battery
  • HSPA+ connectivity

No processor type or speed is mentioned, but this is an entry-level phone for only $99 so we weren’t expecting much. Overall, it looks to be a nice sturdy device that would be ideal for certain types of work environments. Check out the videos below for more information about the Rugby Smart.
