Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) announced at Mobile World Congress

Only a week after unveiling the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7), Samsung has now announced the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1). The new Android 4.0 tablet features a 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 LCD display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16/32 GB of internal storage, 3 megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.3 megapixel front camera, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, microSD card slot, and WiFi connectivity. Samsung will also be offering a 3G variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) with quad-band HSPA+ support.

Based on these specs, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) will not feature the more advanced specifications which Taylor detailed late last month. Fortunately, we’re still expecting Samsung to release another Android powered tablet which should join the Samsung Galaxy Note family.

Pricing and launch details for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) have not been made available by Samsung. Since this new tablet will be a direct replacement for last year’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, we suspect it will be arriving in stores in late Q2 with prices starting around $450 for a base 16GB Wifi model.

Samsung introduces its first line-up of tablets for 2012 with the launch of the GALAXY Tab 2 series, expanding the choice of tablets to customers. The GALAXY Tab 2 series includes a 7″ version and a 10.1″ version. Starting from UK, the GALAXY Tab 2 series will be launched in global market from March.

The GALAXY Tab 2 series is available in 3G and WiFi versions, as well as in 7″ and 10.1″ variants. Light and portable, the GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0) is the ideal personal on-the-go device; while the larger GALAXY Tab 2 (10.1) is well-suited for home and family use.

  I’m with you there. No bump in resolution, same RAM (it might be a little faster but still), and unless the processor is Exynos with a huge improvement over Tegra 2, I see this as an almost remake of last year’s model.

    The low resolution is definitely the biggest disappointment for me. I think I’ll hold off until the prime TF700 and it’s alleged 1920×1200 pixelly goodness.

    I gotta agreement here. I think the Tab is becoming the tablet for the casual user and the Note will be for people looking for more power to do more with.
    
    For most people who surf the net, read email, maybe watch a video, this may be sufficient.

  hopefully they are not, maybe the 11.6″ bezel-less Galaxy Tab will show up later this year. if not, then the iPad 3 and the Asus Prime are the top tier tabs this year.

Groan… at this rate, I’m never getting an Android tablet.

I don’t understand it. These guys know how to compete and beat Apple in the smart-phone segment… but they keep shooting themselves in the foot in the tablet space.

I play with tablets in stores and hands down, the Ipad has the smoothest UI. Add to that the propriety cables, no micro-sd, heavy, unappealing designs and high prices for these android tablets… sigh.

There are too many trade-offs. If you want to sell at iPad prices, you damn well make sure your tablet is at least on par. If you can’t, then sell it cheaper at least. /facepalm

Well at least I won’t have any envy over people with their new galaxy tab 2 . My galaxy tab 10.1 ics p7500 is basically the same except no Ics & slightly lower screen resolution.ics should change soon so I guess that’s one difference.

so is samsung taking apple’s route of “specs don’t matter?” how is a dual core processor going to fare in a year that is destined to be quad cores?!

i’m thinking that people will give them the benefit of the doubt and still buy it… but not sure if android tech lovers will appreciate the “1 Ghz dual core processor” that much.

  Even if u are right and they are dropping ics for the tab 10.1, cm9 will still be available and in pre-alpha builds its still runs way faster than honeycomb could ever. So dont worry if samsung drops the ball developerd are always there to help you out.

    That’s still a failing of their marketing people. They didn’t put down the rumours because they wanted people talking about their product but the end result is a lot of disappointed potential customers. No, people generally don’t get model numbers.

Is this the same design as the 10.1N released in Germany?
I’m guessing this is to get rid of the old design because of the law suits and still able to sell this instead for a lower cost.

The Note 10.1 is the one I’m waiting to see specs on. The *real* tab successor

You think they would have put more effort into to stand out, especially with all of the tablets already out there. It is a nice tablet but you have keep moving forward or you’ll go by the way of the playbook.

This is pointless. I wouldnt buy this, not at all. Has a low resolution and old specs. The Prime is a beast compared to this. Maybe is the entry level tablet from Samsung. Waiting for the Note…

Wow. That’s Crazy I bought an Asus TF101 last year when they came out, and it’s the same specs as this 2Gen Samsung Tab. I wont buy another tablet til Next year sometime for Now I need to get a quad Core phone to Replace my NS4G in August when my Upgrade comes up. Hopefully Sprint has something out by then.

I’m a bit disheartened to learn about this one. I’ve been holding out for a tablet because I thought that the next Galaxy Tab 10.1 would be the latest and greatest to hold off the iPad 3. Hopefully the Note will be what we’ve been waiting for.
