Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) source code now available

android-jellybean-aam-2

Source code for Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) has been released. We’re sure many of you will be downloading the new Android 4.1.1_r1 files simply to poke around, but CyanogenMod and countless other Android development groups around the globe will be spending countless hours pouring over every last line of code to see what changes will need to be made to integrate Jelly Bean into their existing code base.

Along with Android 4.1, Google has also released the proprietary binaries for the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus. Code for the “Nexus S and Xoom will follow.”

The CyanogenMod team has already predicted a quick turnaround with Android 4.1; let’s just hope they can keep their word. We’re still trying to decide which new Android 4.1 features we’re most excited about. Google Now definitely got the most buzz at I/O, but we think Project Butter will have more impact on users.

What are your thoughts? Will you be waiting for a full CM10 build for your device? Or will you be lurking on your favorite development forum, flashing dozens of half-baked ROMs as soon as they’re posted?

Excellent! Personally, I’m hoping Slim moves to a 4.1 base.

    • Jimmy_Jo

Which device are you running Slim on? How is it?

  • Ps3y3Ops

Darn. I was just getting used to 4.1. Now I have to get used to 4.1.1! LOL!

  • E-man

I’d rather not have anything flashed and instead have an official 4.1 version on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus. However, since Verizon takes forever and a day to ever update anything, I guess I’ll just mess around with CM10. Can’t wait!

    • Dirge

Considering Google released the binaries for the Verizon CDMA/LTE version of the GNex…who knows. ;)

      • Slith

        My thoughts exactly!

If the CyanogenMod team releases a Rom for the T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II (T989), I’ll definitely try it out.

  • dejay

I will be flashing every half baked rom until Slim updates, with another Galaxy S in my hands i will be rocking Slim Jelly Bean hopefully soon :) been dreaming of this since they announced ICS lol

  • Richard

HOORAY.1.1 bring on the ota update!

  • AnthonyRyan

I’ll be waiting for the OTA for my GSM Galaxy Nexus but for my HTC Sensation 4G I think I’ll put a custom rom fix there is no talk about it getting updated and not taking half a freaking year like it did with ICS for the Sensation.

Great news, I think, if you haven’t got it yet, you will all be pleasantly surprised by Jelly Bean
Project Butter and my favourite feature Google Now. Although an incremental update (apparently) Jelly Bean has given my GNex a completely new lease of life.

DEVS we await your master pieces…….

I just got myself a new Galaxy Note and if and when CM10 is released I think it’ll be worth voiding my warranty to be freed of Samsung’s software; it’s doesn’t make the Note horrible, it just is extremely suboptimal. CM10 FTW :)

This is just another reason why Google is great; not only do they create wonderful software, they make it open to the public! I am currently working in ATL as a graphic designer, and i need to make a phone/carrier decision. I’m thinking about going with AT&T so that i can access their 4G LTE network here. Will any Jelly Bean ROMs be released before AT&T’s 4.1 update OTA?
