The Android 4.0 update for the HTC EVO 3D has finally arrived! We’ve heard multiple confirmations from users that the Ice Cream Sandwich build of Sprint’s 3D-enabled Android handset is being pushed out, delivering a slew of new features – including improvements to multi-tasking, face unlock, new browser capabilities, and access to Android 4.0 applications like Google’s Chrome browser.

We’re not sure if you can manually download the Android 4.0 update for the HTC EVO 3D or if you’ll have to wait for Sprint to push it out to your device, but you can always check by pressing Menu > Settings > About Phone > HTC Software Updates > Check and follow the instructions to download and install the new build.

I’m excited to check it out! That’s my backup phone. I have the Evo LTE now. I just figure I can use it to play around with and it’s good to keep around for a 3D camera.

  • Ray

Forced the download by checking. 307mb ….still waiting happily. But why not just jump to jelly bean? Not that big a difference. And I want Google Now

    • Jimmy_Jo

They’re still optimizing Jelly Bean. And at least they can give you a semi buggy version of ICS and once the complaints start they can say don’t worry Jelly Bean is coming soon.

FYI – I doubt Jelly Bean is coming to the EVO 3D. The EVO LTE and the SGSIII will of course but not much else.

  • txbluesman

Wow! That took quite a while to finally get, but everyone with the device is going to be happy now. Congrats to the Evo 3D owners.

  • Brent L

Just updated the evo 3d and so far so good. Looks very simular to my lte. Just wish they dropped the carousel effect.

  • surg3d

Took them long enough. Rooted mine a few months ago to get in on the ICS action. :)

I wonder what this will mean for the development world for the EVO 3D though. Especially since now HTC should be releasing source code for their kernel soon (I hope)!

Also I wonder how far off we are from having Jelly Bean on this thing. Don’t think HTC/ Sprint will push it out OTA so I’m kinda just counting on the devs to make some magic happen for us!

I must say how enjoyable it is to read these posts minus the dick yarrell comments!!

    • Richard Yarrell

Yeah to bad your stupid posts are still here. You are still the asshole of this site. Where is you bedtime friend squiddy20 that other buttocks of androidandme???? snowbgr89 & squiddy20= asswipes

      • snowbdr89

I can change being an asshole but you will always be an idiot!!

      • squiddy20

And yet, we’re not the ones calling you “asswipe”, “asshole”, “buttocks” (seriously, do you have a scat fetish or something?) and other childish names that most of us learned back in 4th grade. I guess that makes you the equivalent of a 4th grader?
I mean, you can’t spell, even with autocorrect on your “pimp slapping” SGSIII; you can’t make a relevant counterpoint to save your life, and instead come up with unfounded insults/ridiculous claims; you constantly state things that are either entirely wrong or based entirely on rumors which are usually turn out to not be true; and you insult people just because they have a different viewpoint or opinion than yours. Pretty damn childish.

On another site, he left a comment that simply said “Apple smells like elephant”. Whatever the hell that was supposed to mean. In this thread he says “don’t worry about jellybean ICS is great enough..” Obviously, because he doesn’t have Jellybean. Of course, when he does, it’ll be “pimp-slapping”, “rules android”, “a massive improvement over ICS”, “was meant for his (imaginary) SGS3″, “wonderful”, “almost as good as eating scat”, and all of the other things that come out of his twisted 4-year-old mentality. Aside from being mentally retarded, he is one sick, twisted, f*cked up individual. His father’s abuse in the dark basement really took it’s toll.

I have the new 4.0 and yes you can get it your self just by going to the update page. The UI is fantastic. More of a fade in and out , I also like the new e-mail look. Much nicer. It dis take two hrs on a standard 3g connection to down load and install, which I would advise you to plug it in while doing this or you might eat your battery befor the job is finished.

  • Richard Yarrell

I am happy for my Sprint friends it’s great to see Sprint keep it’s promise to the EVO family of devices. I got a little worried when I saw the EVO 3D on Virgin mobile with ICS and the EVO DESIGN 4G on boost with ICS. Ice cream sanwich will be a world of difference for the EVO 3D don’t worry about jellybean ICS is great enough..

    • Steam

“don’t worry about jellybean ICS is great enough..” …and that’s because you don’t have jellybean. If you did, you’d be spam-f*cking the Android sites about how awesome, pimp-slapping, better than being shit on, rules android, and all of the other mindless drivel that spews forth from your shit filled mouth. Answer me this, “high roller”: since you have all of this money, and you’re WAY too stupid to root even a Nexus, why don’t you pay someone to root it and flash a jellybean ROM? Oh, that’s right, it’s because in reality (actual reality, not Richard’s world) you’re a broke-ass, mentally handicapped, loser who works in the homeless shelter that you ran to broke, scared, and downright terrified, staring at security monitors in the transitional center.
You’d better cling to that job with everything you’ve got, because when you lose it, you’ll never get another job because they may have taught you to turn on a computer, but that’s it. They sure as hell didn’t say anything about protecting your identity. You proudly show your filthy, unkempt face and use your real name, then go on to insult and attack anyone and everyone on the internet. Google yourslef, there are thousands of posts with your name and picture on them with you talking about shitting and pissing on people, attacking people who don’t agree with you, and just saying some of the most idiotic things in the history of the internet. -smh-
Here is another dumbass destined for the shelter and/or prison, look familiar? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnhYFMyEWLQ

Agnel and le Clos beat Michael weed smoker Phelps. Hes slow.

    • snowbdr89

Pot smoker, pole puffer, slow or whatever he is or wants to be it still doesnt change the fact of him having 19 gold medals, im pretty sure thats alot more then your dumbass will achieve in life!!

    • Sargon

That made even less sense than Richard’s drivel. What the hell does that have to do with anything in this article? This is an Android blog, no one is talking about the Olympics, there are sites for that full of people who actually give a shit. Go to one of those. Is “weed smoker” supposed to be an insult? There are “weed smokers” who are billionaires, CEOs, Nobel Prize recipients, etc. Grow up and move on.

  • Geah

Finally it arrives… better late as f@#k than never I guess… works well, everything is smoother and I’m digging the Face Unlock, it’s quick and less cumbersome than the other options.

  • PerryM

I updated fine and all applications are working fine.

Except Widgets – they are all gone. No Widgets show on my screen, even though I had many before the upgrade. There is no Widget screen anymore either – can’t select one.

Sounds like Sprint forgot about Widgets – hope the come up with a fix.

  • PerryM

I found the widgets – just press and hold a blank spot and they are there in this version of Android.

  • Lewis

Is it suppose to take over 3 hours to install?

    • Denise Duran

It only took about 20 minutes (unless I lost track of time reading G+ posts. Downloading via wifi or 4g is recommended. I wifi’d the download. Very quick and easy. Loving it so far. I awoke this morning to the email. I kept getting a “no updates found” message. I kept trying for about an hour and finally an available update was recognized.

      The widgets upgrade is great.

    • rohma

did it install, mine is taking atleast 2 hours and hasnt worked yet, i dont noe should i take the battery out, because its taking forever

  • jon

I want the old version I had when I git the pho.e I hate the new update . How can I remove it or something

  • jeff

My notification bar will not pull down after ICS, any suggestions?

  • Mark

The update restricts me to only one pop-up window. Anyone know how I can get past this and have several pop-ups display?

    • Helen

If your talking about when your are on the web and want multiple windows, click on menu, and click on window and this allows you to open up another page.

  • weewee

I received a msg that an update could be done so I did it..afterwards I can’t find my 500+ pictures that were in my gallery..some please tell me there’s a way u can recover them.I had my pics play as like a slideshow when the phone went to sleep mode and I can still see them their but can’t fiond them on the phone.devastated…

  • Eugene

Does anyone know why I can’t uninstall the bloatware on my 3D now? On gingerbread I could ‘remove’ spiderman/3d games etc but now there’s an error when I uninstall for whatever reason. Also, I might have already figured this out but what exactly does add/remove panels mean?

  • Amy

Does anyone know how to get my text notification back on? I use chomp for texting.

  • Brittany

I love the new upgrade but just one problem, every time I get on the phone my lock screen won’t let me access back too the home screen or anything. How can i stop that? It’s quite irritating.

  • Ajimae

Is there anyway i can download it manually?
And then flash it manually to get the ICS update.

  • Lewis

I’ve been saying that to my poor Rezound too…
