CyanogenMod plans quick Android 4.1 turnaround – all CM9 devices expected to receive CM10 update

cm10-cyanogenmod

Google has yet to release the source code for Android 4.1, but that’s not stopping the CyanogenMod team from predicting a quick turnaround for CM10. According to a Google+ post which went up earlier this afternoon, the changes and new features introduced with Jelly Bean should be incorporated pretty quickly in the CM10 build, but some code changes for CM’s LockScreen enhancements, Theme Engine and Trebuchet will need to be made.

No promises are being made, but it sounds like CM10 should be available to all  devices which have CM9 support. The CyanogeMod team isn’t discussing an ETA quite yet, but they do say that work on CM10 won’t truly begin until Google releases the source code for Android 4.1 and a stable CM 9.0.0 release is pushed out.

While we can’t wait to see what CM10 can do, this update from the CM team should be good news for those waiting for official Android 4.1 updates from handset manufacturers. If work on CM10 should be hassle free, OEM’s (who’ve had early access to the Android 4.1 PDK for some time now) should be able to push out their Jelly Bean updates before the holiday season… we hope.

Will any of you be jumping on the CM10 train once it’s ready or will you be holding out for your handset’s official Android 4.1 update?

We have several devices that I promise will be hopping on the CM10 bandwagon as soon as we can! It’s great knowing that my mother-in-law’s gen1 Galaxy S device is getting Jelly Bean!! :-D

My Galaxy S, now two years old is going to get the latest and greatest, that’s simply WOW! Frankly, that’s why I’d choose my next Android device a Galaxy one, it’s so well supported by the CM team! Thank you guys!

P.S.: Nexus One owners might a bit frustrated I guess…

Not necessarily. I am running CM9 (ICS) on my old HTC Desire right now. I am guessing devs will find workarounds for JB on old devices, just because they can.
The overall experience is obviously better on newer, faster devices, but still.

Not necessarily have been running CM9 for a few months now, although not with support from the CM team but with the efforts of a few dedicated DEVS.

If there are no other ROMs out by then, for the Outlaw Nexus…I will definitely be jumping on this.

I was a rooting fanatic but got frustrated with lack of official support for my non-rooting family members. Now my entire family is a Nexus family so we can get Google goodness ASAP. I only miss a few (but big) things. Mainly titanium backup and controlling app permissions.

They’re not wasting any time are they! I’m liking the fact that the XDA forums already have a way to get Google Now on my Samsung Galaxy S3 :http://www.gametrender.net/2012/07/how-to-get-google-now-for-android.html

Sucks they dont support the HTC Rezound. It’s still a very good phone; 720p HD Display, 1.5 GHz S3 dual core CPU, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB storage.

Looks like a drug you see in a sci-fi movie. “Want to buy some death sticks?”

As soon as CM10 hits I’ll be on it. Till then rocking stock jellybean which has been great.
