Are you ready to play? This week we start a new focus on mobile entertainment. Over the next two weeks we will cover the best Android apps for movies and music, review the VIZIO Co-Star, highlight new accessories, and more.

All our entertainment related content will be featured in a new channel page that is launching soon. To help get the Entertainment Channel going, we are once again teaming up with @NVIDIATegra to give away a Nexus 7 tablet to people who create a thread about mobile entertainment. We have long promised that we will feature user generated content on our front page, and this is your opportunity to have something you create shared with thousands of Android fans.

The Giveaway: Google Nexus 7 (16 GB)

Nexus 7 is a no compromise Android tablet that’s designed to go wherever you go. With a stunning 7” display, powerful quad-core Tegra 3 processor and up to 8 hours of battery life during active use, Nexus 7 was built to bring you the best of Google in a slim, portable package that fits perfectly in your hand.

How to Play: Create a Thread

If you want to win a free Nexus 7 tablet, then you will have to create some entertainment-related content that is appealing to your peers.

  • Login to Android and Me or Join Now if you do not have an account
  • Create a new entertainment related thread and make sure it appears in category Entertainment
  • Quality threads will be promoted to the Entertainment Channel and be entered to win
  • Contest will run for two weeks and we will announce the winner on Monday, September 10th.

Example threads include:

  • Review your favorite Android app: Submit a 500 word review of any Android app that you would recommend to others. Format should include a list of good points, not-so-good points, and final words. Give the app a score of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best.
  • Review any entertainment accessory or service: Have a favorite streaming music service? Let us know the good and the bad with a review. Example — Sony SmartWatch Review
  • Write a how-to guide: Example — How to sync your music collection to the cloud.
  • Any topic related to mobile entertainment: Entertainment is a pretty broad topic, so be creative. We are mainly looking at apps and accessories related to movies and music, but there are other entertainment services available on the go.

View your profile to check your total points.

Tips for making threads:

  • Our threads are different from traditional forums. It will cost users 20 points to post a thread. Points are earned by leaving comments and having others upvote your comments. Read more about threads.
  • To get everyone rolling, we are turning on a POINT MULTIPLIER for leaving a comment on this post.
  • Don’t rush to create a thread! Spend some time crafting your idea and putting some thought into it before you post.
  • Be descriptive with your thread title. A post with the title “Android apps” is not going to attract others.
  • Ask yourself the question: “Would this thread be worthy of appearing as a post on the front page?”

Multiple Chances to Win

We are giving away one Nexus 7 for our Entertainment Channel, but we still have two more tablets up for grabs. Over the coming weeks we will be launching channels for Fitness and Parenting. We will not be accepting entries for those giveaways yet, but you can start thinking up creative ideas for a thread you might want to create.

Contest Rules

This contest is open to residents of the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, and Germany. Entries will be accepted for two weeks after the contest goes live. We’ll announce the winner on this page and on our Twitter account as soon as we draw.

Contest Winner

Congratulations to Esoth for winning the Entertainment Channel challenge.

Now to think of the perfect post.

    • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

Review an app related to music or movies :)

      • R.S

Hmm. All this time I thought you had to have a 90 or above rating in order to start a thread.

Now to think of a topic to post about.

  • lchupacabras

First time poster! Not sure if I’ll join this contest but I’ve been meaning to join the site for a while. This just gave me a good excuse :-D

  • Bpear96

AAM you guys are awesome. Going to be making a post soon :)

  • shaun76

I LOVE everything about this idea! Signed up, and went to start a thread, but was told I’m unable to because I’m not a power user. Guess I need to become a power user quickly. My Xoom was stolen and I’d love an N7.

  • awesomellamas57

These competitions are awesome. Good luck everyone :)

  • mrwirez

Holy smokes… This is too much like work. What happened to just one snarky, pithy comment??

    I still love the site!!

    • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

We have more comment-only giveaways coming this week.

    • OptimusPrime

I agree! While I love coming to the site to check up on all things Android, I don’t get why we have to do someone else’s job for a giveaway*.

*Giveaways are just that, given away. They are not a form of payment for services rendered.

      • Esoth

Yeah, but surely it’s fair enough to try and give something back? The whole point of competitions are to drive their traffic up a little. Otherwise, how would they be able to keep holding more giveaways?

      • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

If you have followed our site over the years, you would know we have given away HUNDREDS of free devices to users for doing next to nothing. This threads contest is just another way to get people engaged with the site.

        • DroidPower

i like the thread idea! While it’s a developing feature of the site, it already has a lot of good user based content. this is a great way to make readers aware of the feature!

  • http://www.baldypal.com Adam Jones

I love sharing my favorite music app with friends. Now I’ll share with all of you guys! No spoilers here though.

  • Slith

Now to find a new game worth reviewing!

  • coggy9

Now if only I commented more. Typed a great thread about how to save battery while watching movies, and playing music/games in notepad, came here and saw I didn’t have enough points.

    • theviper21

It doesn’t take too many to start a thread, especially if you comment here and get the point multiplier. Just take some time browsing around and find something you’re interested in to comment on and they’ll come quickly!

    • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

Upvoted you to give you more points (if that’s a factor). Participation through comments and voting will rack up the points before you know it — in fact, you might even have enough points to create your thread now.

    • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

(Since there’s no edit button, I’m replying again)

I just checked your profile — you have 50 points now. That’s enough to create two and a half threads.

  • lou2cool88

Good luck, everyone! Really hope I win one! My Galaxy Nexus could use a friend.

  • getwilliam8

I love reading everyone’s reviews on all Android Apps. Now to create a worthy post

  • thekaz

Wow.. this is actually going to take some thinking.. I have some ideas on the tip of my brain, just gotta get them into a good, creative format…

  • alexanderharri3

Hmm…..now to plan the perfect time to get a thread in there that will be seen in the last 20 posted in threads for a while…..and be interesting….

    * maniacal laugh, maniacal laugh, maniacal laugh?*

  • Vyrlokar

Well, now I really need to select an app worth reviewing. I have a number of candidates…

  • RhynosAndroid

Yeah, I guess something happened to my previous account. Que sarah. Time to get my points up so I can get back into blogging and try to win one of these magically awesome devices!!!

  • kwills88

viper is one lucky fellow, only been a member 12 days and already won a contest, i been here 2years with no luck, lol congrats!!!. i know just the app to review also

    • theviper21

Thanks, I agree!!! I definitely put some thought and time into my review, but definitely did not expect to win.

  • adamsaur

Hm I have a few ideas, now to just get some points…

  • http://www.jaxidian.org/update/ jaxidian

    Grats to theviper21!

  • hkz4lf

Well then my plan for the next week:
    – Comment on more posts to build up points
    – Start working on my write-up/product review for a thread.
    – Comment on more posts to build up points

  • sword_zero001

    Second chance.

  • russieb

    Let me think!

  • wirpo032

I know what I should write about but I’m lacking of the 20 points to create a threat. I’m afraid this system will result in a highend appearance of spam, as I’m probably not the only one in this situation…

    • theviper21

All you really need to do is find some topics that you’re interested in and comment (shouldn’t be too hard around here), before you know it you’ll have enough to post. You’ll be surprised how much you start to feel like you’re a part of the community if you put just a little thought into comments you make on articles or threads.

      • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

True story. The community here is better than most other (I prefer to avoid blanket statements) sites. In fact, it’s the only one I visit repeatedly to check for replies to my comments, and it’s the only one where I’ve gotten to recognize the names of other posters.

        • http://ArtisticAbode.com BetterWithRoot

Tru Dat! The community is why I keep coming back. You guys/gals here all rock! If I have a question, there is usually someone who is going to answer with a link or positive info. Very little spam or trash in the comments. We are all fanboys here, but we are far from being blind.

Thank you AndroidAndMe for having such a great site!

Off topic, I’ve gotten a lot of compliments whenever I wear my A&M shirt. Thank you all for reprinting those!

          • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

It’s too bad the A&M shirts aren’t custom printed with our usernames. I bet you’d get even more recognition.

          • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

I know that if I saw you on the street wearing your A&M “BetterWithRoot” shirt, I’d totally give you a big man-hug.

  • TJBeanz

Looks like I need to get some points before I can even attempt this! It’ll give me time to think of something though…

  • Esoth

So how’s the winner chosen? Is it the best one?

  • mattplaybass

Hmm, what to post, what to post…

  • http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/JO7b1Ck47aQEDj18KITtDo-UqYBOLeP6nzuQmVQDO8o?feat=directlink Gomez

Ill push my review here :)
    http://androidandme.com/thread/my-movie-collection/
Hopefully everyone takes time to read it. Its about Mizuu. i should be working but im on here doing this lol.

  • ibap

You are of course aware that what classifies as entertainment in an election year may not be regarded that way by everyone?

  • MitchRapp81

Sweet, I was gonna review FLIPBOARD anyways, might as well write everything down now!

  • MoSDeeb

Perhaps reviewing the new Funimation application would be viable.

  • Ryan McFadden

I can’t afford the cost of creating a thread yet!!

    • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

Yes you do. You have 62 points.

      • jswenson3

care to share some of your points?? :)

        • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

I would if I could! You only need 5 more points to post a Thread. I’m not sure how the points are calculated, but it shouldn’t be long before you can post.

  • http://ArtisticAbode.com BetterWithRoot

Upvotes for everybody! I like to make sure everyone has a chance. Good Luck to everyone!

THANK YOU ANDROIDANDME and NVIDIA for the great giveaway!

  • jtownspowell

This should be fun. Just need some points to get the ball rolling.

  • StabMasterArson

Need points… and an idea for a post. And evidently a lot more coffee.

  • jswenson3

this sucks… I have a great thread, but not enough points to create!

    • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

      You’re halfway there – don’t fret!

  • Daniel Hakimi

This point system is terrible. First off, it says, “hey, do you have a good idea? Have other good ideas, first.”

Second off, you’re artificially encouraging people to post vapid, pointless posts here just so they can start a vapid pointless thread in your forum just so they can win a prize. And your means of controlling this is points… But a much better means of controlling this is to *not offer people rewards in return for pointless bullshit.*

Seriously, even if you do need some kind of quality measure, which you really don’t, what’s the problem with a redditlike system?

Is it just that you can’t offer prizes for it?

    • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

Most people who complain about the point system are the ones who don’t participate. The point system is there to help keep quality engagement up — yes, a few Threads will be lost from new visitors, but 20 points doesn’t take much to accumulate. In fact, you have 25 of them as of my post.

PLEASE note that points are not the same as ranking (i.e,. the 92 next to my name)!

    • http://ArtisticAbode.com BetterWithRoot

I think they want you to stay active on the site, and not just comment once every 211 days to win a prize.

BTW you currently have 25 points, enough to make a thread. With each comment on the thread you created, you get a point. Come up with something interesting to say that creates discussion, then you have earned your points back.

“Seriously, even if you do need some kind of quality measure, which you really don’t, what’s the problem with a redditlike system?”
…you mean like Karma? Points given to vapid comments, which truly have no meaning?

I gave you a +1, because I am not downvoting in this thread. Good luck with coming up with a great idea. I will be looking forward to your post.

    • theviper21

I personally think the point system is great. It helps weed out all of the people who just want to create an account in order to post a thread without much thought simply in order to win a prize. Sure, there will be some people that will just post short, pointless comments in order to get enough points to post a thread to enter the contest, but I think it’s a lot of work for a simple entry into a contest and most people won’t go through all those loops just to enter.

What the giveaway does do is give an extra incentive for people to contribute and be a part of the community while getting word out about the site. I probably wouldn’t have come across this site if it wasn’t for the giveaway, but once I started reading and commenting on articles and threads I realized I really enjoy talking with like minded people about Android/tech stuff.

To say that the point system encourages “vapid, pointless posts” is a very cynical view and one that I don’t think accurate. If you post empty comments it will take a little bit to get enough points to post a thread, but if you post good ones people are likely to +1 you and you’ll gain them fast. Good luck to you, and I +1′d your post!

  • Ricardo Carrilo

Yeah i need a few more points also. The next two catagories sound like they could be intersting.

    • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

You have them now. GO FORTH AND PROSPER!

  • Walkop

I already know what I’m gonna write about. DEFINITELY the Tegra 3, what it really means for YOU on your tablet, what benefits it brings and what new opportunities it unlocks for entertainment.

Yes, it will be detailed ;)

I bought my wife a Nexus 7 and it is reaaally nice. I wouldn’t mind having an additional one around the house for random home automation and remote type stuff. Plus it’s just handy to have a smaller, durable tablet around for quick things that I don’t want to use the iPad for.
