Amazon claims 22% of tablet sales in the US, ready to take on Europe next

Amazon has a major product announcement set for September 6th, and today the company made two important announcements that reveal their plans for next week. First, the Kindle Fire is now sold out just nine months after it launched. And now the Amazon App Store is coming to Europe.

In Germany, France and Italy, customers will find “App-Shop” available today; in Spain, customers will find “Tienda Apps;” and U.K. customers will find the “Amazon Appstore for Android.”

Everyone expects Amazon will be unveiling a new Kindle Fire next week, and we expect the sequel will be available in both the US and Europe. Since it launched nine months ago, the Kindle Fire has been #1 best-selling product across the millions of items available on Amazon. It was only available in the US, where it managed to capture 22% of the tablet market share.

“We’re grateful to the millions of customers who have made Kindle Fire the most successful product launch in the history of Amazon,” said Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO. “This has been a big year for digital products on Amazon–all of the top 10 sellers on since Kindle Fire launched just less than a year ago are digital products. Kindle Fire is sold out, but we have an exciting roadmap ahead–we will continue to offer our customers the best hardware, the best prices, the best customer service, the best cross-platform interoperability, and the best content ecosystem.”

No one is sure what Amazon will announce, but there have been rumors of a larger 10 inch Kindle Fire and possibly a phone. Other rumors have also suggested that Amazon will partner with NVIDIA on their new devices. Amazon aims to own half the tablet market by the end of the year, and it appears only NVIDIA has enough chips to supply the demand. Qualcomm previously announced  it expects supply of its 28nm Snapdragon S4 chips to remain constrained until early 2013.

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer to see what Amazon will reveal. What features would you like to see in the next Kindle Fire?
