Withings reveals new Wireless Scale WS-30 with Bluetooth

Today at IFA 2012 Withings unveiled their second generation wireless scale, which now includes Bluetooth connectivity in addition to WiFi. Thanks to the enhanced connectivity, you no longer need a PC to setup the scale, just a smartphone or tablet.

Like the original, the new Wireless Scale WS-30 measures weight and BMI data. New features include Position Control technology that offers visual feedback for users to properly position themselves for high-accuracy weighing. A new Withings Health Companion app will make its way to the Google Play store so users can access their data and take advantage of new features like goal setting and coaching services.

Cédric Hutchings, Co-Founder of Withings says, “With Wireless Scale, we have simplified even further the way people automatically assess how fit they are. Now anyone can enjoy the benefits of self-measurement in a really simple way without worrying about connectivity.”

I almost purchased the Withings scale earlier this year, but I ended up getting the Fitbit Aria since it was cheaper and offered the same functionality. Both devices sync up with a bunch of other fitness apps, but it appears Withings has the advantage of being around longer and taking advantage of 60+ partner apps and services.

Withings says the Wireless Scale WS-30 will be available in late September in Europe, and more countries will follow. It will sell for a recommended price of â‚¬119.95 (about $150), which is around the same price as the original.

I’m still not sure if I would choose this new Withings scale over the Fitbit Aria, but I can see how the PC-free operation over Bluetooth would be useful for someone that travels and wants to assess their body stats from anywhere at anytime.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. How much would you be willing to pay for a wireless scale that syncs with your Android device?

I am using BS-801BT Bluetooth scale from digitaldevicescom.au. They provide a web app for iPhone. The scale supports HID and SPP profiles. But I can only use HID on my iPhone.

    Sorry the address is digitaldevices.com.au
I hope someone can write an Android program using the SPP profile.
If the program can run as a service in background, then I do not have to touch the phone when weighing myself. Thanks.
