Xiaomi reveals the fastest Android phone ever

HTC and LG are rumored to be working on new Android phones that feature Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, but Chinese handset maker Xiaomi beat them to the punch with their new Mi-Two.

The device was announced this morning in Beijing and it boasts the most impressive list of specs we have ever seen, making it one of the best Android phones ever on paper. It comes exactly one year after Xiaomi announced the Mi-One.

Xiaomi said the Mi-Two would be available for local carriers China Unicom and China Telecom in October for only ¥1,999 (about $310). It was revealed that the raw cost for the device is ¥2,350 ($370) per unit, so Xiaomi could be selling this for a loss when it lands in a couple months.

Highlights of the Xiaomi Mi-Two include:

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with MIUI launcher
1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro with Adreno 320 GPU (APQ8064)
4.3-inch 720p IPS display by Sharp
8 megapixel 27 mm F2.0 BSI rear camera, 2 megapixel 28mm front camera
2 GB LPDDR2 RAM and 16 GB storage
2,000 mAh battery, with optional 3,000 mAh battery also available
DC-HSPA+ WCDMA 850, 1900, 2100 alongside quad band GSM
Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi Display, MHL HDMI, USB OTG

If the name Xiaomi sounds familiar, it’s because they also make the custom Android firmware known as MIUI (pronounced “Me You I”). Xiaomi recently revealed their new MIUI Free Launcher, which should make its debut on the Mi-Two.

Too bad they added a logo on the front and touch buttons (instead of on-screen). So close to looking perfect!

  That’s a pretty minimal logo. But yeah it’s sad to see a hard menu button still being used. Wish they were on-screen buttons, or the menu button was replaced with multi-tasking.

    Awwwwwww Taylor I was going to say that. Regardless of those minor flaws i would absolutely love to see this come state side. Actually I would prefer to order an international version especially at the thought of it only being 310(cheaper than the nexus) at FULL RETAIL PRICE!!!!!

        Logos, buttons… What are you talking about? It’s extremely powerful, cheap and it WILL get updates.

        The logo is a personal gripe but the buttons are pretty much a no-brainer.

    I like the Menu button a lot more then the recent apps. i remapped my buttons on my evo so when i hold on the home button the recent apps pull up and the recent apps button is the menu button. the recent apps button is not as useful as the menu button and it got rid of the 3 dot menu when i launch apps and stuff to make the screen full sized.

      All apps should integrate the menu button in the top right corner (3 dots). That’s what Google tried to make standard with 4.X + but of course all devs haven’t listened.

        Anyways on my one Xl running cm10, I mapped recent apps button, to recent apps like it should be. Then made it so that a long press of recent app button is menu. So if app didn’t integrate it I can access it that way just in case, and don’t have to deal with that annoying 3 dot overlay HTC implemented. I also made a long press of home button Google now/voice search, similar to galaxy nexus with swipe up home button.

  I like the hardware buttons. I HATE losing screen real estate for buttons.

    I hate when buttons don’t rotate with my device (small issue) or when the non-changing buttons are no longer current, like including a menu button instead of the now-standard multitask button (bigger, lamer issue).

I’m just waiting for ZTE, Huwaei, and now Xaomi to explode into the market and bring these high end, unlocked/rootable/flashable at a sub-350 price mark outside of China. That would really throw down the gauntlet.

  Higher RAM requires more power. Unless it’s needed, it will just drain the battery. Though, by having more phones having 2GB, it will inspire some devs to make use of it.

Wow I’m very impressed. Seems samsung could learn a thing or two from Xiaomi. I couldn’t understand a single word in their ad but still I learned more about what their phone actually does than from any samsung ad (who only use ads to berate their competitors). I would definitely buy one of these if it was unlocked and available in the U.S.. I don’t want to pay for hype, and there is no reason why a high end phone should cost more than a 42” HDTV (like the samsung galaxy SIII is). A lot of what a phone does is software anyways. Xiaomi could be really good for the android market IF they come state side. Fingers crossed.

It may be the best “on paper” but it is not that easy “on my eyes.” Its not ugly its just not that sexy or appealing. I love the color options tho. especially if they are available at release. Will keep an eye on this when AndroidandMe reviews this. With Tmobile compatability, this is an option.

  yeah but with a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro with Adreno 320 GPU (APQ8064) which gets 7000+ in quadrant and makes the quad core exynos in the S3 look like a load of weak ass crap, it could piss in my eye for all I care. PPI of teh display is also crazy

  Remember, since this phone has miui Rom by default, its very easy to change the interface with themes, so if stock is not your taste, check out the rest.

  agreed! but even though they are amazing, and way better than my phone, I have to wonder, why LPDDR2? With such a great chipset, why “skimp” on the RAM of all things? What do you think the speed is, like 400mhz? I know LPDDR2 is still the standard, but we’ve seen LPDDR3 here and there – wouldn’t RAM be a bottleneck in certain apps when you have this much power?
  
  I mean, it’s crazy to look at those specs and say “too slow!” These specs look amazing and I would love this phone, no doubt about it. but it’s curious, I mean, they are so close to making a flawless bullet-point spec. Maybe it’s a battery saving thing?

The raw cost $370 for the device being 2x the one for Iphone4s the Isuppli calculated as usually without volume discount for components? hahahaha….do u guys have common since at all? or you are just the salespeople happy the more it costs the more your fees?

Total utter bs, this phones b-of-m is not higher than any other one.

Is it just me or do you guys think that they are staying in china so that they don’t get sued by apple? I mean come on the phone has rounded corners so clearly it MUST be an iPhone copy. I will be importing one of these if I can get it under $350

  The US is a “brand whore” market. It takes a lot of cash to launch a brand. Most people have not heard of them, it would take a lot of money to launch the brand in the US.

Awesome specs (and price for that matter) and if it somehow became available to purchase in the US I might be tempted (though I’d had to wait and see how support worked). My only problem is that is looks a little to iPhone like to me. At least from the front/side it looks a lot like a 4/4s, if Apple wants to sue someone for design I don’t think Samsung phones look anywhere close to a clone as this phone does.
