User-only giveaway: Win an unlocked HTC One X

It’s been a while since we launched a new feature here on Android and Me, and it’s also been a while since we’ve given away something for the hell of it, so we figured we’d do both on the same day.

If you are a registered user here (never too late!), you’ve probably noticed that you’ve been racking up points for a long time, and you might have been wandering what they’re for. Sure, they let you create Threads, but it’s time we got around to what points are really for: comparing your dominance to other users and earning prizes.

Starting today, we’re going to be keeping leader boards for a number of carriers and manufacturers. To get in on the action, all you’ve got to do is set your carrier and manufacturer on the Edit Profile page. Choose wisely because after you commit your choices, you’ll be “locked in” for a certain amount of time.

Below are eight fresh leader boards for the top carriers and manufacturers on the site. We’ll have more leader boards coming soon, but we just wanted to get started with the big guys. Without further ado, the top And Me Accounts:

The Giveaway: HTC One X

To encourage everyone to set their carrier and manufacturer, we’re going to give away an unlocked HTC One X to one random user that has both fields set. To enter, simply leave a comment on this post. To leave a comment on this post, you’ll need to first visit the Edit Profile page and make sure you’ve got a carrier and manufacturer set. If you’ve already set them in the past, you’re good to go. If you’re not a member yet, you can still join us, and then set up your profile and come back here when you’re done.

This contest is open to anyone in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia. Winner will be drawn at random. Picking a certain manufacturer WILL NOT help your chances. Only users who successfully leave a comment on this post will be considered. We’ll announce a winner three days from the time of publication.

Last but not least, big shout out to @NVIDIATegra for providing the device. If you’re not following them, you should be.

  Yes and no. People who are active can quickly gain lots of points and climb up fast. The scoring system definitely needs some tweaks though. We are looking at ways for users to trade in their online clout on other social networks in exchange for Android and Me points. And users who are idiots will also be downvoted and eventually lose their rank.
  
  I’m thinking the best solution might be to let existing users keep all their points, but only base the user score on the number of points earned in the last 90 days. This would keep the list fresh and weed out the users who are no longer active.

    Funny thing is, I never saw any guide per say explaining the point system. But with my third comment here, I’m starting to see that every post has a number of points based on likes and that the average adds up as my androidandme points. Pretty good system to make sure every post counts!

      Exactly. The system weeds out users who post stupid comment or simply leave a comment like “first!”
      
      Just make it a point to leave a comment or two every day and you’ll be making your way up the list in no time.

    Keeping the points fresh sounds like a good idea, to be honest I haven’t been active in commenting lately but that does not mean I do not read the articles. Either way it would be nice to see those points reflect a certain time frame.

    I really like this site. It’s my first choice for information on new apps, new equipment, and better, smarter ways to use my phone. But I don’t log in often because I get most of my information from the Daily Digest. So, I’m going to, somewhat selfishly, suggest that Digest subscribers have a longer base period for their points – maybe 180 days.

Selected Samsung as my favorite manufacturer right now. Actually it’s been for awhile. I’ve had HTC and Samsung phones and the Motorola Xoom as my tablet for awhile.

I honestly feel that whoever makes the Nexus lines of phones has the strongest devices for at least a year, as that is how its played out to me. The Nexus One was when HTC was creating the best devices for at least a year, and Samsung has had it ever since (Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus etc.).

I would love to see how far HTC has come, or how far it has to go!

  This should work on T-Mobile with no issue. It may be Edge for now but TMO is refarming spectrum in most areas and it should light up HSPA soon. I’d love to see it on my favorite company.

My only HTC phone has been the HTC Desire and I did really like the phone but the lack of updates to the latest version of Android really put me off, and since then I have stuck to the Nexus branded devices. Could be a good opportunity to give HTC another try if I was to win.

I have used Samsungs for a couple of years–since the Nexus S, and then with the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.

But the Galaxy Nexus on VZW was simply atrocious, as I’m sure many readers here are aware. Verizon swapped me into a Motorola RAZR Maxx, and it’s 10 times the phone my Samsung was, despite the bloatware and unhelpful modifications to the stock ICS interface. My calls are clearer. My battery life is superb. And the phone just feels solid, where the Samsung felt creaky.

So I picked for VZW for having excellent customer service and Motorola for making a great phone that plays nice on CDMA.

Personally, I feel that HTC is underrated. They really do make some great products, but they have horrible marketing and they limit their user-base to a few carriers. The One X is an awesome phone, and truly does compare with the Galaxy SII, and is as solid as any top tier phone.

God I love the One X. If it weren’t for that wife of mine keeping an eye on my finances I’d have a serious Android phone problem. Would still love to have that problem without having to front the money for it.

I’ve had the HTC One X since July and it’s an excellent device. Although it lost its momentum when Apple blocked its shipments in early June and then was shadowed by the S III, it is still a great phone that is still one of the best currently out imo. Whoever wins is going to love the phone.

I would love to win an unlocked HTC One X, I would actually be able to use it to its full potential now on T-Mobile since they’re refarming their hspa+ ,I would also enjoy using a smartphone that has probably the best screen in the market (4.7″ 720p Super LCD 2 with true RGB tech) . Makes me salivate ;) and you can’t forget that Tegra3 CPU , which is still a complete beast of a chip !

Since the current Nexus phone is Samsung, that’s what I’m in for. Jelly Bean on Galaxy Nexus is unbelievably good.
