Today NVIDIA announced that their TegraZone showcase app had passed 5 million installs on Google Play, making it one of the largest game discovery services for Android. The app is the go-to spot for mobile gamers with Tegra-powered devices, but it’s available to install on any device and it’s a great way for keeping up with the latest gaming news. To put TegraZone’s success into perspective, it has been installed 100x more than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon GameCommand.
NVIDIA boasts close to 50 games that have specific optimizations for Tegra devices that deliver console-quality visuals including real-time dynamic lighting, particle effects, ragdoll physics and higher-quality textures. TegraZone is also a helpful tool for discovering which Android games support wireless controllers.
Google’s Nexus 7 tablet has surely helped boost the installs of TegraZone, since it’s one of the most high-profile Tegra devices ever. Hopefully this growing user base will encourage more game developers to optimize their games for NVIDIA’s hardware.
We enjoy the overall TegraZone experience, but I would love to see NVIDIA highlight even more games and apps that run great on Tegra devices. There are tons of awesome non-Tegra games that I’m sure Tegra owners would enjoy, and it would help NVIDIA expand their current library of 50 titles very fast.
I know we have a lot of Tegra fans in the audience, so let us know what features you would like to see come to the TegraZone app?
