Rumor: Android 4.1 update for HTC One X, XL to be released in October

jellybean-630-2

The Android 4.1 update for the HTC One X and One XL may only be a few short weeks away. According to Paul O’Brien of MoDaCo fame, HTC is planing to roll out Android’s Jelly Bean flavored update to the two devices starting in October. HTC branded phones will be the first in line to receive the updates, but Paul claims that all carrier branded phones will be updated before Christmas.

The only additional detail about the Android 4.1 upgrade for the HTC One X and One XL is that both phones will also be updated with HTC Sense 4.5, which is expected to be a lot smoother thanks to Project Butter. The source of this information is not disclosed, but Paul has always been reliable.

HTC first announced that it would update the HTC One X, XL and S to Android 4.1 back in July. For now, there are no details available regarding the Android 4.1 update for the HTC One S, but we suspect HTC will make it available a few weeks after the updates for the One X and XL start rolling out.

But your maps are version 1

too bad IOS 6 is technically no more advanced than IOS 1.0 just streamlined. If android continually tweaked Android 1.0 and never innovated it would be as smooth or twice as smooth as IOS. But Android brings the innovation to its users even if it isnt perfect when released.

Looking forward to this! Here’s for hoping AT&T finally allows an official bootloader unlock through HTCdev as well!

WTF isn’t the One S included in this?!

Non one is saying that it’s not. This is not official information form HTC. This update is based on leaks from someone who’s familiar with information about the HTC One X and XL.

I’m looking forward to this as I may get a free November Upgrade to the One XL. LTE Boom!

How bad or good is Sense these days?

    • co.ag.2005

it’s actually really good. I’ve never been a big proponent of it but having it on my HTC One XL (AT&T), it’s phenomenal. It feels less bloated and smoother than prior versions. Plus, coming from Samsung phones, I can’t stand TouchWiz but each person has a different opinion on that. I’d say give it a try to see what you like! (FWIW, I had a Galaxy Nexus for several months and found AOSP ROMs boring, so I switched to the One XL and haven’t looked back!)

Some of it is good, some bad. I want to punch a newborn in the face everytime the thing has to load just when returning to the homescreen. And “multitasking” is just disrespectful. I’ve heard 4.0.4 resolves some of these issues, but I can’t comment on it.

I read that the LG Optimus G will not see 4.1 until “early” Q2 in 2013……that saddens me.

This is great news, hopefully they have decided to change the multitasking back to its original form.

Yes. I don’t mind the aesthetics too much, but I would prefer the stock look. Its just the botched functionality that I can’t stand. There’s practically no multi tasking at all with all the Sense bloat.

Do this include Europa? or just the US (Sorry if it stood in the Article, i’m a little tired)

    • SGB101

      Euro usually gets it first.
