Verizon pushes out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to Galaxy Nexus

We were pretty harsh on Verizon when it took them nearly six months to push an update to the Galaxy Nexus, so today we want to praise them for pushing out Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean to the Galaxy Nexus earlier than we expected. They were still the last ones to update their Galaxy Nexus to Jelly Bean, but the turnaround this time around was much faster.

Our Verizon Galaxy Nexus hasn’t received the update quite yet, but many readers have told us they received their notification this morning. Our friends at Droid-Life report that update is only available via WiFi until October 1st, so make sure you connect to a WiFi network and grab the update file before it’s too late.

ha ha ha, very funny… oh, wait. you are serious???

I wonder if the boss will let me go home early…

    • LukeT32

I am still a firm believer that if you have a Nexus AKA developer device you should be rooted and running custom roms. :)

I have had JB since Google I/O thanks to the AOSP that was released and now CM10. You could download the JB radios a few weeks ago on XDA.

  • jaxidian

Only what, 6 months later than the real Nexus?

    • Taylor Wimberly

I had Jelly Bean on the unlocked Galaxy Nexus at Google IO on June 27. So that’s only about 3 months. They cut the time in half!

      • jaxidian

Okay, for some reason I was thinking that was in April.

  • AvatarZ

Not rolling out to my phone, even on wifi and using DroidLife’s instructions. Not having the update when its out in the wild is almost worse than it not being out at all.

… come on Verizon, don’t keep me hanging like this

    • Evil-D

Same here. Followed directions many times to no avail. “System is up to date” . . . NO IT IS NOT. Give me the jelly bean already. You are right, it is worse knowing it is ready and not being able to get it.

      • Marx

I called Verizon & the rep said I have up until the end of the month to get it & if I don’t they’ll send another phone. Shortly after I got off I restarted my phone, tried again & I had the update.

    • AvatarZ

Its three days later and still nothing …. how long can this possibly take?

  • carlisimo

“…so today we want to praise them for pushing out Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean to the Galaxy Nexus earlier than we expected.”

Those are some very low expectations for a Nexus device!

  • tmoore4075

Had mine on my GSM model sometime in July I think. Better than some but come on people bought a Nexus thinking this is one thing they would get fast.

  • DragonPhyre

“update is only available via WiFi until October 1st”

Meaning, after it will be pushed out via mobile networks–not that the download is going to stop. Your article is kind of misleading on that… Also, it is going out in waves so if you can’t get it now then you will get it in a few days.

    • leo209

It’s not misleading. it just means that it won’t download thru the carriers data connection until that date. i have the gsm galaxy nexus and when i got my update earlier this year, i was at work with no wifi connection, and i still got the notification telling me it was ready to be downloaded, but i want able to start downloading it until i connected to wifi

      • leo209

  • jamal adam

This is unexpected, I thought that it would be another 3 months lol. Good job Verizon!! Hopefully next time they getting at the same time as the GSM versions.

  • Richard Yarrell

I don’t have no nickel in this quarter truthfully. But why the need to download over wifi?? Just push the update OTA what the problem. Glad I don’t have to worry about all this Verizon foolishness..

    • squiddy20

“I don’t have no nickel in this quarter truthfully” Uhhhh… What? Try using 21st century phrases cause you’ve just 1. dated yourself and 2. shown how out of touch with the real world you actually are. No one says such backwater crap like that anymore.
“But why the need to download over wifi??” Maybe that has something to do with the fact that you’re downloading an entire OS update, and not just an app, which is upwards of 150 MB. And for people on the 2 GB plan, every MB counts. How sad that you don’t realize that.

    • snowbdr89

Please explain in english what I dont have no nickel this quarter means?

    • Sargon

Does anyone have an Idiot-English dictionary? Good Lord, Richard. You barely have enough brainpower to keep your heart beating and other basic functions. You’re the same fucktard who said that he’d “put his knowledge and business background against anyone.” I just flushed something down the toilet that’s smarter than you.

  • Hue Three of Five

I am betting this will probably be the last update that the Verizon Faux-Nexus see’s

  • leo209

If you receive the notification, and it said you can only download it thru wifi until a certain date, and you are not around any wifi at the time, u can go to your date settings on the phone and change the date to the date mentioned in the update ;) i did that when i got my update on the gsm nexus and it started downloading right away

  • Mark Harmon

Good update for this obsolete phone

    • Hue Three of Five

I like your work on NCIS

    • leo209

and how is this phone obsolete exactly?

    • TNP

Really? I must have missed the latest Nexus launch then, could you tell me where to get it? Oh right, there is no Nexus to replace this one yet.

Never going iPhone or Galaxy S3 or 4 or whatever.

  • pjamies

It’s out on Telus Mobility already, which means Bell Mobility too..
Got the update 2 weeks ago..

  • themost

Still haven’t got my update. Anyone else still left in the dark?

    • Silas

lol ask the LG phone owners *scnr*

    • ztapp

      Still haven’t gotten it.

  • E-man

    I want this now!

  • kaiks

Ive been trying all day to get the update on my wifes galaxy nexus but it wouldnt work with just force stopping the google services framework app. You also need to force stop IMSC framework and then clear data. Then check for the update. It should work.

    • kazahani

This still did not work for me… I WANT JB! IT’S THE NEXT DAY AND I WANT IT!

    • Chad

      Worked!!! Thanks!

    • E-man

Just worked! Guess all I needed was to clear the IMS framework. Thanks! :) Brings a little light to my day.

  • Speedtorch

Kaiks, you rock! That worked! Thanks!

  • Nathan D.

Great, 3 months turn around which means Verizon is getting better at this or Google is or both.

  • Patrick Kerby

This update better not be a hoax!!!
I am so tired of my Nexus, I am on my 4th Nexus! I am getting rid of this stupid devise as soon as our contract is up were going to Sprint for there Unlimited access!

  • eazyean1

What build do you have to be on imm75k?

    • eazyean1

      Imm76k* or Q

  • kungpaodragon

Praise? Are you serious? This is unacceptable. Just because it’s a shorter wait (*smaller f**k up), doesn’t make it ok. I’ll praise its customer service because they’ve done a good job with me and exceeded my expectation. That deserves a praise. But when they screw around with NEXUS, they fail to meet the expectation of the NEXUS experience. That is a screw up. Especially when you were the first exclusive carrier… Love the LTE. But it seems to me, VZW puts NEXUS users in the back seat and catered to all the iPhone5 buys first. Why would they dedicate any resources to NEXUS users first when there are herds of sheep lining up to throw VZW the money for iPhone5 (or 4s, whatever, apparently it’s hard to tell the difference…), right? So my opinion: VZW told us NEXUS users to go f**k off and wait behind the iPhone users…

  • themost

Just used the framework trick and it worked for me. Took a few trues but sure enough, a wild 4.1.1 update appeared.

    • themost

    • E-man

      I keep trying that and I won’t work. :(

  • Alan

Received update this morning. All working well.

  • kaiks

I just updated my brothers Gnex to JB tonight, while following the same process I mentioned earlier. I guess its a hit or miss thing because the night I was able to update my wifes phone my brothers would not. But tonight it did.
