ASUS Padfone 2 coming in October with upgraded specs and new design

ASUS Padfone

ASUS  just released the Padfone earlier this year and this week the company started sending out invites to the press announcing that the Padfone 2 would be revealed on October 16th. Thanks to some leaked packaging, we might already know the hardware specs of the device before it is officially unveiled.

The Padfone got a lot of press the first time around for its unique design. The Padfone could dock into a 10-inch tablet, which then could dock into a keyboard with integrated battery. We loved the idea of the product, but it only launched in a couple of markets and sales were not that great.

Rumored specs of the ASUS Padfone 2 include a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 Super IPS+ display, 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro, 13 megapixel camera, 2 GB RAM, and support for LTE and DC-HSPA+ networks.

I played with the original Padfone back in March and at the time I wrote, “The modular concept of the Padfone is a great idea on paper, but the final product might need a couple of revisions before it finds success. Where the Transformer Prime was sleek and sexy, the Padfone is fat and ugly.”

Hopefully the new design has been slimmed down quite a bit, and it will come to more countries this time around. Check out our hands-on video below for an idea of what to expect from the upcoming refresh.
