This week we’re taking another break from our Android Gaming Weekly recap to focus on new releases. We still plan to cover upcoming releases and games we’re playing, but this new column is dedicated to new games you can install and start playing right now. Check out our top picks and let us know if you have any suggestions for next week in the comments below.

1. Skyriders

Description: Navigate crazy tracks in this high-speed game mixing platforming and racing! Inspired by classic games of the past, Skyriders is a fast-paced mix of platformer and racing game. Pilot a small spacecraft along crazy tracks in space, dodging and jumping obstacles, whilst trying to maintain a high speed by collecting the glowing stars and hitting the boost pads!

Notes: We are always fans of these fast-paced games, and this one is free to play. Installing now.

2. Funky Smugglers

Description: Some of the things smugglers try to get through the airport are incredible. There’s a spider in grandma’s suitcase?! A racketeer is hiding a plunger?! Holy smoke! Luckily, you have an X-Ray scanner to check their clothes and luggage for wacky contraband. Enjoy a funky 70s-style soundtrack while keeping the airport safe from hammers, scissors, and other illegal goods in a game full of groovy arcade craziness.

Notes: This developer created the awesome Anomaly Warzone Earth, so chances are this one is better than it looks.

3. Beach Buggy Blitz

Description: An epic driving adventure from the makers of Riptide GP and Shine Runner. Drive your hot-rod beach buggy as far as you can into the uncharted depths of a mysterious tropical island! Swerve and smash through a gorgeously detailed and completely destructible world packed with Tiki statues, grass shacks, giant crabs and lava monsters. Explore sun-swept beaches, secret caves, fog-shrouded swamps, ruined temples and erupting volcanoes in this action-packed quest of discovery and mayhem!

Note: Now compatible with most modern Android devices (including Samsung Galaxy S3 and S2, HTC One series, and more.)

4. Fluid Football

Description: The next evolution in tactical football games. Designed for tablets and phones. From the team behind console smash hits LMA Manager and Club Football comes FLUID FOOTBALL, an addictive strategy game that puts real-time tactical decision making at your fingertips. Fluid Football places you at the heart of the action, letting you call the shots and test your strategic know-how in a series of high pressure on-field situations where only you can decide the best way to beat the defence and carry your team to victory.

Note: Missed this one last week. I’m not a huge fan of soccer, but something about this game looks fun.

5. Sector Strike

Description: A futuristic shoot ‘em up designed to challenge your reflexes and wits. Sector Strike combines the mechanics of old school shooters and the aesthetics of modern 3D games. Battle through relentless waves of AI drones in a campaign that will take you through 4 unique environments. Earn credits and upgrade your ship with new weapons, equipment, and abilities.

Notes: Old school arcade action that’s free to play.

6. Zombie Swipeout

Description: Whose machete swing reigns supreme? The undead are leaping for your lobes! Dust off your trusty machete and help Joey, our intrepid hero, show them some manners the Zombie Swipeout way! Machetes too cliche? Unlock and equip weapons with different abilities like the Head Slapper and the Prince of Cleaves. Level up and unlock cool powerups like grenades, liquid nitrogen, and more to combat the hordes. Zombies hate powerups!

Note: Can’t stand Fruit Ninja anymore, but I did enjoy Zynga’s Zombie Smash.

7. 2XL Supercross HD

Description: 2XL Supercross brings high-speed arcade racing to your Android device! Bury the competition as you ride like a pro! Discover secret jump combinations within each track as you master the physics of motocross in this high-speed racing adventure. “2XL Supercross HD” is an all-new offroad racing experience from the creative team that brought you such popular hits as: Motocross Madness, ATV Offroad Fury and MX Unleashed.

Note: This game is $4.99 to buy, so check out their previous free game 2XL MX Offroad for a preview of what they can do. Early review score average is 4.8.

8. Thunder Gun Pit Crew Titans

Description: Thunder Gun Pit Crew Titans by Ingersoll Rand puts you in control of an 8-man pit crew to see how fast you can get your car in and out of the pits and back on the track for victory. Get ready to refuel the tank, pump the jack, and work those lug nuts with an Ingersoll Rand Thunder Gun, just like the real pit crews who have been using Ingersoll Rand tools in the pits for over 50 years! Challenge yourself to perfect your pit stop and compete with friends and players around the world for the best time.

Note: Any Nascar fans in the house?

9. Royal Revolt!

Description: Royal Revolt is a brand new reverse T-defense game with beautiful 3D graphics and intuitive touch controls! Lead your soldiers to victory against your greedy relatives who have stolen your father’s throne. You throw a tantrum, but to no avail: your relatives suggest you go back to school and leave politics to the grown-ups. But you are a man now! You sell your jeweled teddy bear, collect a few trusty soldiers and set out to kick the greedy ones out of their castles.

Note: I’m addicted to tower defense games with a twist, and this one looks fun.

10. Twist Pilot

Description: Twist Pilot is a fiendishly addictive puzzle action game. You guide the constantly rotating Phil through 72 action-packed levels, making sure not to touch the sides while avoiding the mischievous Spiders and their troublesome tricks and traps. The control system is intuitive and precise. By dragging the screen and timing the rotation correctly, Phil can be squeezed through the narrowest of gaps.

Note: Zynga releases a new game for the puzzle fans.

11. Knights of Pen & Paper

Description: Knights of Pen&Paper is an indie turn-based retro style pixel-art RPG. Inspired by the great titles of the 90′s, play this game feels like you are playing a traditional pen and paper RPG. The player gets to control the playing characters AND the dungeon master, and you choose what battles to fight. Put together a bunch of monsters to make it a challenging fight and your rewards will be equally great!

Note: I never played pen and paper games, but this retro RPG looks to have a lot of style.

12. Tiny Legends Crazy Knight

Description: Hack and slash up to 40 monsters at a time as you battle across Kromdor! It’s a full-on monster invasion! Crush the invaders with wicked weapons and crazy combos! On the distant continent of Kromdor, the skies have grown dark, announcing the coming of the Evernight. Monsters that once slumbered beneath the earth now bring chaos and ruin to the land. Do you have what it takes to destroy the fiends and save Kromdor?

Note: I’m way over my Top 10 allotment, but this RPG game looked too good to leave off the list.
