Google announces Android event to be held on October 29th in New York City

google event

The rumors have finally come to fruition. Google has just sent out invites to an exclusive Android event to be held on October 29th, in New York, NY.

Announced via email, just two Mondays from now at 10am, Google will be revealing what’s new with Android. We don’t know for sure what Google will have to share, but there’s a very, very good chance it will involve the LG Nexus we’ve seen floating around the web recently, and Android 4.2.

For those who won’t be able to attend, Google will be live streaming the entire event at Youtube.com/Android.

We couldn’t be more excited to see what Google has prepared for us. Fortunately, we have less than two weeks to wait. For more information what we think Google will reveal at the event, check out the links below. Is there anything special you hope Google will surprise us with?

I wonder what will be announced….. no leaks so far, its a complete mistery :p :D

  • Nate B.

I hope the meaning of the playground is open is because there will be multiple things to play with. like multiple nexus devices

    • Alexander drzfr3shboialex

I really hope so. If not I’ll get the Lg nexus. If there is multiple nexus and there is an HTC one based of the butterfly I’ll get it :D

      • Nate B.

        Most definitely :-)

    • heat361

That’s their slogan they have been using it on the nexus 7 and to showcase the play store it could mean anything. Hopefully it mean’s multiple device, but I have a feeling there won’t be multiple nexus.

      • Nate B.

I wouldn’t be to surprised if there isn’t, but hoping like you said.

  • TechNick

    “The playground is open.”

As in, an open Nexus program…?

    • Dustin Earley

I like where you’re going with this.

    • RX-78-7

Isn’t that the slogan on the Nexus 7 commercials.

    • http://droidsamurai.blogspot.com DroidSamurai

The long awaited “Game Center” like service?

      • iamXiV92a

That wouldn’t be a bad addition either!

      • amnesia

I wonder how would they call it. GG? Google Gaming (but also means good game).

  • Ardrid

    Ladies and gentlemen,

It begins! Get ready for the Nexus!

  • Jaywrayson

I know Google has something not yet leaked up their sleeve. Can’t wait! It’s finally time to replace my old Nexus!

  • Thomas MacDougall

Any chance of an upgraded nexus 7?

    • brandnew234

3g/LTE variant, and 16GB version will be sold at 200, and a 32GB will be sold at 250.

  • Bernardo

Low end tablet? How far away is that again?

  • Syed Abbas Ather

I’m hoping the Nexus phones, other than LG, will be announced.

  • Orion78

    Multiple Nexus devices please.

    • iamXiV92a

I hate to bust bubbles but technically there are multiple Nexus devices… Two in fact: The Nexus 7 and Nexus Q and if you count the Galaxy Nexus, that makes three so far. If I’m not mistaken, it was rumoured that Google may bring 5 Nexus devices by the end of this year. I don’t recall it stating that they would all being phones but hopefully they are

i wonder if we’ll see a re-release of a revamped Nexus Q on steroids (put Google TV on it already!).

Anyone else think that Nexus adopters should be getting bundle deals?

  • LG Nexus

    LG Nexus BAY BAY!!!!
    So keen.

  • stenzor

Can time move any slower? I want the 29th to be here. now.

  • Gsizzle

This will be quite entertaining. Can’t wait to see all the Goodies the LG Nexus 4 Unfolds.

  • YMS123

    Multiple Nexus devices, please……please?

  • Revalence

From all of us in the Android Army, we say to you, Google:
Thank you so much for the early Christmas. ;)

  • Froojr

10 AM… Eastern? It just says 10 AM in the article. 10 AM GMT? 10 AM Pacific? When?!?

    • heat361

Its eastern the event is at basketball city which is located in New York at the pier

    • nipun

      newyork….its mentioned there…

    • Nate B.

I guess we have to be strait forward for you my friend :-).

  • Nick

Someone bring me as a date

  • Khalid

I’m calling it now, a Nexus Chromebook. Google’s head of Chrome said new devices are coming this year, so it would make sense to reveal them very soon. A cheap ($300, tops) Chromebook designed to Google’s specifications and sold at around cost would kick start demand.

    • Dustin Earley

It’s too bad this isn’t a real account. You totally called the $249 Chromebook today.

      • Khalid

I know, right? I honestly expected it on the 29th. But I don’t visit A&M enough to make it worthwhile. I like sites to use DISQUS, because that’s one account that lets me comment on many sites.

        • kazahani

Android and Me is a unique community and if they ever went to disqus I probably wouldn’t come here daily like I do now.

  • rauelius

My Guess? 32GB Nexus 7($249.99), Lower price of the 16GB model($199.99) and elimination of the pointless 8GB model. A dual-core version of the Nexus 7 for $99. LG Nexus 8GB($399) 16GB($549) 32GB ($699). An entry-level Nexus Phone (Nexus 4) for $199.99.

    • Jt227

The prices on the LG Nexus would be more like:

      $399 16GB
      $449 32GB
      $499 64GB.

Everything else seems to be accurate though. Hope your right.

    • SGB101

The large high street chain in the uk, had a premature nexus 32gb live briefly for the same price of the 16gb, one or two days ago.

So 16gb will drop to 8gb price and 8gb drop or maybe discontinued completely.

  • Vance

Thank God they announced this two weeks early instead of two months. The anticipation would have ended me. I’m confident there will be at least one nugget that wasn’t on anybody’s rumor radar… Google TV, Glass, Nexus (phone and tab) the possibilities are mouth wateringly endless!

  • brandnew234

Maybe it’s just me, but the invite seems to have a theme of Google Now and the Google Voice icon is there, too. They playground is open confuses me, because Android is already fully opensource, the only other thing that is possible for them to open up is the Nexus program (as many have already stated).
From what I’ve heard of the Nexus’s TBA: LG Nexus at 399 off contract, no LTE, bad camera, not enough storage, and the same chipset as the Optimus G, with the same type of display. Personally, I’m going to have to get the Galaxy Note II, simply because it’s got a better camera, a stylus, and more memory. Ah, it stings to say that, because I know no one gives a better Android experience than Google themselves.

  • jamal adam

I can’t wait to see their playground. More Nexus devices would be perfect.

  • Matthew Morrison

    4 blue buildings 2 red bridges… android 4.2 maybe??

    • stenzor

Yellow and blue colours… must mean a launch in Ukraine

      • Nate B.

I think I got what you did here ha-ha

  • 5n4r35

Is it odd to anyone else that Google actually sent out invites for and event? For a nexus device that is. They did it with he Nexus One, I think, but with the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus those two were Samsung events. Does that mean Google’s gonna stop playing second fiddle and get behind the Nexus Phone 100%? Perhaps this means something bigger for the Nexus line as a whole. Not sure what that could be. I got a few ideas but I doubt any of them would remain secret if thy were actually in the works.

  • Marshall

Maybe they are opening Google play (music, tv, movies, books) up to some more countries? I would love to be able to actually buy those things via Google, which is currently impossible in my country

  • Lilly

Would be nice, as after the initial wow, Now is slightly limited as it stands.

  • lolbazor

    4 blue towers 2 red… 4.2?

Also, “playground is open”=everyone can do a nexus?

    • Alex

From the news these days we can see Android 4.2 is still on early stage, seems it will only announce the new nexus devices or some google services update.

  • masterpfa

All will be revealed in just over 10 days. I shall just wait until then as I just love surprises.

  • zymo

Maybe Google will show us the 3G Nexus 7, which recently leaked through NCC (Taiwanese FCC)

That would be a perfect strategy! By presenting the new 3G Nexus 7 (32GB) and the LG Nexus 4 along with Android 4.2 at one event, they’ll steel the show from Apple’s Ipad Mini and Microsoft’s WP8 launch = kill two birds with one stone!

I’m really hoping for a multiple Nexus device program! And Verizon getting with the program and leaving the Nexus line alone… but that’ll probably never happen.

  • epps720

Can I just say unlike Apple and some of these other tech companies, one of the best things about Google (one of many) is that they know how to do these launches! Not everyone can come to this so let’s stream it LIVE!! No stupid blogs and pictures…give it to me LIVE!

In the words of Bart Scott….CAN’T WAIT!!!

    • Nate B.

They know how to present, but I still think their actual public launch dates for any Android device is still lame. I think they should have things ready for a launch and public release a week later.

  • Dan

The Nexus Play(store)ground is open for all manufacturers.

  • Nathan D.

Finally, the announcement we have been waiting for! Can’t wait to see what they have in store for us, hopefully it’ll be about LG nexus.

  • Paul Atreides

Even though I’m skipping the LG Nexus, I’m hoping Google will make it available following the announcement. Hate when a product is announced but not available for purchase until months later. Maybe they have a revamped Q up their sleeve and more on project Glass up the other. Everything else I think we are aware of.

    • Nate B.

No product is ever released the same say it was announced. If it was, then they would have to make it clear what they will announce before hand. A week later is just fine. But months later like you said is lame.

      • Paul Atreides

Yes, I know it wouldn’t release but I’d like pre-orders to start the same week at least. It should be available before the holiday season begins this year.

    • Brennan

      I’m hoping for a newly modified Q!

  • yankeesusa

This is crazy, even with all the patent lawsuits against android and android phone manufacturers android is still innovating and coming out with features that blow ios out of the water. I love it! I can’t wait to see what is announced. Only problem is, that if new phones are announced, they won’t be available by end of year which is when I have use my renewal discount. I guess I’ll just settle for the note 2.

  • Rick

I must say, google is quite impressive…I would love to see google put its foot on the OEMs…Android will prove its point even further..

  • mikef3j

Can we get another leak? Anyone….

    • Nate B.

oh we will as the 29th approaches ;-)

  • kazahani

I’m hoping for some news on the Sony Nexus device. I’ve been admiring the xperia devices for a long time and would love to get one unlocked for a decent price that was assured timely updates.
