LG India accidentally spills the beans on the Nexus 4

The LG Nexus has been leaked so extensively these past few weeks, there’s absolutely no doubt in our minds that it’s guaranteed to be at least one of the devices Google has prepared for us next Monday at their Android event in New York City. As you would imagine, despite all the leaks and multiple rumor reports from all over the web, Google has still not said a word on the device. LG on the other hand, the company manufacturing the device, has slipped up.

At an Optimus Vu launch event being held in India, Amit Gujral, Head of Mobile Product Planning for LG India, has been quoted by IBNLive as saying, “Google will unveil the LG Nexus on October 29 and the phone will be available in the Indian markets by the end of November.” He continued on to say the LG Nexus will include a 4.7-inch screen, Android 4.2 OS and a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor. All specs that have been rumored in the past.

Possibly the most interesting bit of information shared by Gujral is when the LG Nexus will be available in India, which could indicate Google’s launch schedule for the device. If what Gujral said is correct, and the LG Nexus makes its way to India by late November, I think it’s safe to say it will be available in the US sooner than that. Immediate retail availability on the Google Play store isn’t out of the question.

Of course this still isn’t an official announcement by any means, but again, there’s no way the LG Nexus won’t be announced at Google’s upcoming event. It will be there; you can bet on it.

They didn’t really tell us anything we don’t already know.

True but at the same time it’s like getting an email from Santa’s helper with jpeg attachments showing proof that you’re on the list.

Many will sleep easier tonight :-)

The naughty list, or the nice list?

  • Alexander drzfr3shboialex

I’m probably ordering the day its out :D

If LG is the only Nexus phone this year (all signs point to yes) – I’m most likely doing the same :)

      • phor11

Same here, but I’m really hoping that’s not going to be the case.
If the rumors are true that the phone will have a max of 16GB of storage and no LTE support along with a relatively small battery that’s not user replaceable, then that gives me a lot of cause for hesitation.

Is it out of the question to want an unlocked CDMA nexus? I’ve got the Galaxy Nexus right now, and if similarly priced straight from Google as the current GNEX, I’d pick mine up in a heartbeat. Regardless, I’m clenching onto my unlimited data from Verizon, so subsidized phones may be a thing of the past for me.

    • AK

CDMA carriers are notoriously strict about activating unlocked devices on their network if you don’ purchase directly from them. Possible yes, but I wouldn’t expect it to happen.

Then, here’s to hoping the next Nexus has both antennas in it!

carrier provided or not, they need to let google handle it all and right if it hits a carrier. kills the value of the device when the carriers shut out the benefits (updates)

    • LukeT32

I’m in the same boat. Not renewing to keep my unlimited data, but waiting for the next Nexus device. No need to keep waiting if I an buying off contract. GNex it was fun, but your old news now. :)

    • veracu

same here. verizon, unlimited data and on a nexus and won’t be giving it up for subsidized prices. got my toro on ebay for 300 new and it’s fine. verizon confirmed it had never been activated. i like the device a lot. htc radios blow these radios out of the water but verizon has southern california heavily supplied with lte towers. would love to see a new nexus come to verizon, especially from htc, but i can seriously wait. as for it being unlocked, i’d be happy to that myself and root it.

  • Chris

Is there any confirmation of the price being 399$ or is it still just rumors?

    • Adam

I would expect a price north of $500.

      • Nate B.

and to be honest, 399-500 isn’t bad for an unlocked phone. When subsidized ones off contract are 200 dollars more.

        • Adam

Anything less than $600 would be a great price for the Nexus 4. $599 is probably a realistic starting point. I’m guessing $649-700.

    • vforvortex

$399 for 8gb, $449 for 16gb and after a couple months later during christmas holidays, releasing 32gb for $549 similar to how they did with the Nexus 7 models. Thats my guess. :)

      • Chris

399$ should be for 16GB? 8GB on a tablet okay, but phone? Sounds a bit unrealistic. The source did say it would be revealing Nexus 4 16GB on the 29th, if Google does it as good and as cheap as the Nexus 7 they will be winning a lot of fans:) my guess is because they are skipping LTE, Gorilla Glass and so on. Nexus devices use Fortified Glass of what I know. So 399$ plus taxes and so on sounds pretty reasonable since Google wants to make cheap devices for us to skip carriers?

Seems like it will be ready the day of early-mid Nov. Nice. I appreciate the phone, but still not in awe on the design. It will look better once it’s polished and shown off. I know 4.2 won’t be visually different but I can’t wait to see what enhancements it brings.

  • Nathan D.

Don’t you love it when they do that.

  • JonnyCage

Can I just get a 32G version, please. May just pick up an S3 otherwise.

    • vforvortex

ya i am tempted by the s3 because of that too.i have a 32gb sd card right now with my htc sensation. would love to get an expandable storage like the s3 has. that would give me 32gb internal + 32gb external.
But i want the nexus updates and quad core.
      (1st world problems, I know) :D

      • veracu

class10 64g sdxc is sweet and will work with the sensation and anything new coming out.

  • Ardrid

Looks like I know what I’ll be buying next month! Can’t wait!

    • Ardrid

Would love to know why I got down voted for expressing enthusiasm for the next Nexus. Must be the trolls…

Brilliant. LG’s not getting another crack at Nexus because of this.

    • iamXiV92a

Funny… the Nexus S leaked and Samsung got to make another o_O

  • Dragonithe

Considering how much this devices has been leaked I wouldn’t be surprised to see this device on the play store available to buy a few day’s before the official launch.

  • Scott
