This week we’re taking another break from our Android Gaming Weekly recap to focus on new releases. We still plan to cover upcoming releases and games we’re playing, but this new column is dedicated to new games you can install and start playing right now. Check out our top picks and let us know if you have any suggestions for next week in the comments below.
1. Arcane Legends
Description: Play the Biggest Co-Op RPG with Pets for FREE! Experience Adventure Unleashed and team up with friends from all over the world in this new online co-operative RPG from Spacetime Studios, creators of the smash-hit Pocket Legends. Your adventures will take you and a stable of mystical pets through darkly-lit taverns, majestic forests, and dank mines as you root out the evil taking hold of Arlor.
Notes: Texas-based Spacetime Studios continues to impress. These guys make the best mobile MMOs.
2. Wreck-it Ralph
Description: Hit the arcade and game-hop between 3 challenging arcade games based on the movie! Play Fix-it Felix Jr., Hero’s Duty, and Sweet Climber. Also compete against your friends – and the world – for high scores in each game! Get to Game Central Station and start playing today!
Notes: Saw the movie last weekend and loved it, but I might be passing on this game.
Play as the Predator in this official game based on the iconic sci-fi film franchise! Hone your hunting techniques to lethal precision as you earn full membership in the Predators clan by tracking down and eliminating packs of elite human assassins, and defending yourself against even deadlier enemies.
Notes: Always been a fan of the Predator series and I also watched this older movie over the weekend. Optimized for Xperia Play and Tegra-based devices.
4. The Hobbit: Kingdoms
Description: Build and Rule your Dwarven or Elven City. Begin Your Journey Today! The battle for Middle-earth has just begun! Play for free and join thousands worldwide to drive the Goblin hordes from the lands beyond the Misty Mountains in The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth!
Notes: I plan to go see The Hobbit movie, but this strategy game looks a little too nerdy for me.
5. International Boxing Champions
Description: International Boxing Champions. Classic Arcade Action. Only on Android. Train your fighter to compete against 8 of the toughest boxers in the world. Featuring 3 tournaments, 288 medals, 5 power-ups, and 9 super combos
Notes: Looks kind of goofy, but it’s free to play and I’m a huge fan of boxing and MMA. Installing now.
6. My Little Pony
Description: Saddle up for adventure with Twilight Sparkle & friends! After being locked away in the moon for centuries, Nightmare Moon is set free and spreading night across Ponyville! Only Twilight Sparkle and her friends can free Ponyville from her grasp, and bring light and friendship back to the land. Help them rebuild the town and reach their dreams in exciting quests!
Notes: For your children.
7. Hunters: Episode One
Description: Set in a Universe where contracts rule, in Hunters you can build a team of Mercenaries and become the most renowned Bounty Hunters in the Galaxy. Each day you’ll receive a set of contracts direct to the Bridge of your Spaceship, which you’ll have 24 real time hours to complete. Grow your team. Gain more equipment, upgrades, and special abilities. Build the most powerful team of mercenaries in the Universe.
Notes: This turn-based strategy game cost $4.79, so check the reviews before you purchase.
8. In a Permanent Save State
Description: A cerebral, fantasy driven application about events that are true and currently exist. In a Permanent Save State is a game that falls into the evolving category of ‘serious games’ or if you will ‘games for change’. The interconnected narrative it tells sheds nameless perspective upon the Western spectacle vs. the Eastern dream. Furthermore, has a root in cultural truisms which define the aesthetic and faith for those involved. There is an effort made to deconstruct these notions and the video game form itself. Those who assemble the dreams of this world now have their own at a devastating cost.
Notes: Inspired by the real-life suicides at Foxconn’s electronic manufacturing plants. Banned from the Apple App Store.
9. End of Aspiration
Description: Way back in the past, humanity gloried in the prosperity of the technological civilization it had created. But all that ended in destruction. Now though, many ages after that time, the world has once again gained a modest peace. Enter Eril, the Azure Sorceress, who alone is standing up against a group making secret moves in the shadows of the world, and Yute, who follows in his father’s footsteps, journeying around the world as a trader. Their battle begins here… a battle of beliefs and destinies, a battle for the Atomijems, sources of huge power from the ancient civilization. This is a dynamic fantasy RPG on an epic scale!
Notes: Now available in English version. Price has been reduced by 50%.
10. This Could Hurt
Description: Test every aspect of your skill in an invigorating arena of hilarious hazards. You are an Oakguard apprentice. One day you’ll be a fully fledged Oakguard, charged with protecting the Great Oak—the tree that gives life and power to your village. But first you must survive the Path of Pain.
Notes: Looks incredibly hard.
