Leaked images expose the rumored Sony Xperia Yuga

sony-xperia-yugo

Leaked images of the rumored Sony Xperia Yuga are making their way across the web today, highlighting the handset’s minimalism design that takes a few cues from the recently launched Xperia T. The Sony Xperia Yuga is said to be running a 1.5 Ghz quad-core processor (most likely a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro) with 2GB of RAM, 12 megapixel camera and a 5-inch 1080p display that should give the HTC J Butterfly (and the upcoming HTC DROID DNA) a run for its money.

Naturally, everything we know about the Sony Xperia Yuga is completely based on rumors; there’s no indication as to when the device will actually be available to consumers. Since we’re already a week into November, we wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Sony Xperia Yugo isn’t unveiled until Sony shows off its 2013 lineup at Mobile World Congress next February. But we could be wrong.

How long would you be willing to wait for the Sony Xperia Yugo when the similarly spec’d HTC DROID DNA appears to be right around the corner?

Looks quite beautiful… I just hope it’ll come with Jelly Bean and a processor that is top-of-the-line at the time of release… Not half a year earlier. :/

Also, hey Sony, if you allow me up unlock your Bootloader, I’m totally down with getting your phone on my next contract extension in the summer. Think about it, it’s not that hard to do over here in Europe. ;)

1080 seems to be a standard for next year. I hope polished Skins & creative features are to. Because what we have now just with a 1080 screen doesn’t make it new. 13mp cameras becoming a standard maybe? Quality pictures. Interesting. Still looking forward to the Nexus 4. Can’t imagine what the next one would be like with the tech coming out.

bah what a fugly fugly phone

Will Sony ever release a CDMA phone? I really like their styling. I also really like the Quality Control.

    • LukeT32

A few that PlayStation phone was on VZW wasn’t it?

    • EmagehtmaI

The xperia play was first released in verizon. Ha. Though I agree I’d love to see a top-of-the-line xperia phone on verizon.

  • CTown

Wow, Sony is using a current generation Snapdragon! That in itself is big news. Not really sure if this phone’s design actually stands out, like the way Sony phones did with the Arc.

    • Meister_Li

The main question is will the current generation Snapdrageon still be relevant by the time it comes out?

      • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Relevant? It’s the S4 Pro. Probably won’t be seeing new chips replacing this until this time next year.

  • Bpear96

Looks like the CPU war is starting to trickle down. But the resolution war has began! Stay safe everyone.

    • DROID Sam

I’d agree, soon we’ll seen Snapdragon S4 chips optimized specifically for battery life while others are optimized for performance.

    • SGB101

      I want a battery war!

      • Bpear96

        Yes!!
        hopefully that’s next

The placement of the power and volume keys is interesting, to say the least. That 13mp camera better have an awesome sensor. I think that overall, the design is unique and it seems to have a lot of bezel on the sides. The two speaker grills on the front, I think that’s a first, but it makes the phone a bit weird. If they are going to keep that, I think HTC’s drilling the holes would be the smart course of action to take.

  • redraider133

Wish they would start bringing some of their high end devices to verizon. And release the phones before they are outdated. This looks like an awesome phone, it all depends on when they actually release it.

  • Dr.Carpy

Considering that Sony is losing money in their phone division, why let the Galaxy Note 2 sell 10 million units before you finally decide to release? HTC has the upcoming DNA. This is a classic Sony self inflicted wound. The Xperia TX/TL is noted as a great phone, the drawback is the software. This phone has the potential to be great, but when will it release? What software will it be shipped with? If Sony is waiting till CES, they know that other phone makers are going to be bringing new products as well….right? I want to see Sony be successful, sometimes I wonder if they want the same?

    • rauk

Sony climbed to 3rd place in smartphone sales in Q3 and revised their sales from 35 mil to 50+ mil in 2013 so they seems to be doing something right.

      • Dr.Carpy

Sony could/should do better. If they released phones with current android versions (they were releasing Gingerbread phones in 2011, then cut support), 2012 phones with ICS, with updates for 2013 Q1 (that’s ridiculous for how long Jelly Bean has been available), Sony needs to be current, efficient, and honest. They owe it to the customers, shareholders, and their brand name. How many times have we seen this? Sony looks to have a great product, then it releases 6 months too late! That not leadership or innovation, that’s stupidity.

No need for 1080p on a phone imo, but I welcome innovation.

I want to have and love a sony phone soo bad up til now there best product has been the smart watch, witch I love and recomend to any android user def check it out. But this might have to be my next if it comes out in relative time frame that is.

  • drcmda

Why the bad skin. Its insanity, why do they let an amateur screw up something that is well designed and coherent? For what reason, no one believes this distinguishing factor bullshit and i sure hope sony is not dumb enough thinking they’ll create a brand by destroying googles/matias duartes work. If they only would, for once, leave the os unadulterated … my goodness, considering all the other manufacturers are screwing up aswell that would indeed be a distinguishing factor.
