Cutesy cartoon lends credibility to Android Key Lime Pie

Key lime pie evolution Image via: Manu Cornet with Creative Commons

Key Lime Pie has been generally accepted as the name for the next big Android update, likely due out this summer. But we’ve yet to see any official confirmation of the name. The comic that’s popping up everywhere today is certainly not the official confirmation we’re waiting for, but since it was drawn by a Googler and posted to his Google+ profile, it does have our attention.

Google’s dessert-themed code names for Android have really taken off. More often than not, the general public, or least the folks I encounter on a regular basis, refer to Android versions by their dessert name instead of their designated software version number. Over the last few years, there’s been a growing hunger to know just what Google will name the next dessert, or update, once it finally sees the light of day.

Googler and cartoonist Manu Cornet has drawn the evolution of Bugdroid for his website, titled “Robot Evolution,” that shows Android’s mascot going from hunched-over, unhappy, and eating a cupcake, to tall, proud, happy and eating a big slice of key lime pie.

At this point, even if Google was originally planning on going with some other “K” dessert for the next update, they’d be foolish to throw away the free press and mind-share Key Lime Pie already owns. So, again, while this still isn’t an official confirmation, it’s just about good enough for me.

With how long it usually takes major software, like a dessert-named Android update to complete, we should start hearing rumors and whispers about Key Lime Pie any time now. By then, we might even have a rumored “L” dessert to look forward to as well.

Love this…bring on 5.0 and here’s to hoping that it’s more stable than 4.2.

    • alexanderharri3

It’s unfortunate I’ve been hearing the same things about 4.2 JB. 4.1 is quite nice and polished and project butter is visually very nice. Google shoved features into 4.2 that can’t have been fully tested, unfortunately leading to some instability across the OS. Hopefully they smooth that over by the time KLP graces our presence.

      • Mikej

Relax, its such bs to say 4.2 is unstable. Iam running 4.2.1 on both my Gnex and N10 and there are no issues at all. In fact everything is noticeably smoother which is backed up with a 15 percent increase in my antutu benchmarks. I have had no issues, force closes or anything to say it isnt stable. It is ridiculious to say such a thing.

        • iamXiV92a

          +1
I have yet to see a force close on the Nexus 4 (or my GNex on 4.2.1)

        • yoaj

Antutu.. why haven’t I gotten this already. Downloading, thanks.

        • brunnen153

Did you do a hard reset?
My Galaxy Nexus isn’t running as smooth as it used to, maybe flashing the stock factory images will help.

        • PJofTheGame

Yeah, but a lot of people who are using it are probably doing so on devices with no support and quickly put together ROMS

    • co.ag.2005

wait… 4.2 is unstable? it’s the most stable version my N7 has ever run and it’s running like a champ on my N4

but yes, it’ll be nice to see what enhancements / features 5.0 will bring.

    • jcsugrue

I honestly haven’t had any problems on Android 4.2 (wasn’t really affected by the lack of December) and 4.2.1 is running perfectly for me. I’m using a Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7, and made a commitment to the Nexus brand, knowing full well that there would be bugs. Still, I’d rather be on the bleeding edge with a few bugs, than a year behind, waiting for a carrier to fill an already outdated build with bloatware.

    • Donnieace

      Seems stable to me.

    • eioous

      L is for Android

  • http://technicquill.com Jess Blanchard

“L” is for licorice. You heard it here first.

    • zerosix

Zoom in the picture and find a piece of lime.

    • skyflakes

Wrong. Already heard that from other people trying to guess the next versions of Android.

    • Jeff Pan

      L for “Lasagne (sweet)”

    • Trevor Cameron

I love it! Seriously I hope that you are right. Let the speculation begin now! Lollipop? Lemonade?

Just searched the Web (using Bing of course ;-) and I really can’t see any other viable name options. Pulling for licorice!

      • xyzyxx

Lollipop and Licorice sound like good names. My suggestion is Lemon Drop.
No Lemon Meringue Pie please (unless Key Lime Pie is wrong). Can’t have two pies in a row, can we?

        • Cale Schmitz

Well there was Donut then Eclair…. so… pretty sure Eclair is a essentially a donut.

      • robertaspden

        Definitely rooting for lollipop.

      • yoaj

        Ew, Bing.

    • Dylan Sahlin

No way. Google have to go with Lemon Pudding.

    • Jeffdwisc

      I’m going for Lava Cake

  • qee4q

    Lollipop B-)

  • Jeremy Sheehan

Just verifying what everyone has known for a loooong time.

  • uknowme

It’s nice. Much better than kidney bean.

  • sunrise

Exciting, I wonder what features Key Lime Pie will bring to Android?

    • Nate B.

I am most curious about this to. I wonder if it’ll have any big visual changes.

  • Danny Calderon

Can’t wait to see the new and exciting enhancement keylime brings

    • jeshep

My guess is it will include an improved multi-user that addresses (paid) app-sharing between users. I hope they add an app data synchronizing capability so that save game and preferences can be consistent across devices. Anything else will just be whipped cream on the pie.

  • boone simpson

Well Ice cream sandwich sandwiched together the tablet features of Honeycomb with the phone features of Gingerbread.

Jelly bean was a handful of new features.

I hope Key Lime Pie take all that a step further. Make android work for all pieces of the pie, Unify android as the overarching OS by google, By that I mean bring Google tv into the fold, bring Chrome OS into the fold, Allow different pieces of android work for you how and where you want.

In addition, they should tweak usability so android can be “easy as pie”

    • http://youtube.com/user/jawckamoe Marcus

I just had an epiphany. I’m using your logic, and (by the way I am not trying to make fun of you at all) since ICS “sandwiched” those features together, and Jelly Bean brought a “handful” of features, maybe Key Lime Pie will bring a huge slice of something! Like a huge new feature or something. That would be epic.

      • Cale Schmitz

I can “get behind” that idea.

      • WlfHart

Then maybe if L is licorice, then it’ll bring a stylus! Licorice looks like a stylus, right? :D

  • Thomas Biard

I’m still on a Droid X with Gingerbread. My world is gonna flip when I upgrade my phone to Jelly Bean/Key Lime Pie. I look forward to the HUGE jump in technology.

    • Mikej

Root your phone already. My retarded grandmother rooted her phone and installed a JB rom. Why are you scared?

      • http://ArtisticAbode.com BetterWithRoot

Sorry to hear about your grandmother being retarded…does it run in the family?

      • Thomas Biard

I did root my phone thanks. A first gen snapdragon single core 1Ghz won’t run ICS smoothly. Sure it could do an ICS themed ROM, but I’m ok with my stock Android.

    • clauprim

      Same here!

  • http://ArtisticAbode.com BetterWithRoot

I am still holding out for Kolache.

    • co.ag.2005

mmmm.. 1 thing I miss about living in SE Texas… (we don’t have them up here in Colorado)

      • http://ArtisticAbode.com BetterWithRoot

You don’t? Oh man. We have a czech place in our city. They make the best kolaches. I would sent you some, but i am sure they would get a little stale by the second day.

        …wait a minute…Colorado doesn’t have Kolaches???

Duuuuuude….i think some people need some Kolaches to go with their legals. I need to move up there; after i learn how to make them good.

        • co.ag.2005

I’m sure there are a few places, but I haven’t found them. They were every where in SE Texas when I lived there (higher concentration of Czech population than up here). I miss them :(

I’ll have to go on a search this weekend!

        • co.ag.2005

also, it seemed like all the donut places down there sold kolaches too… not the case up here.

  • jenskristian

Will be interesting to see what Key Lime Pie will bring. If it will be launched as version 5.0 we should see some big new features. Can’t wait!

  • alexanderharri3

Despite hoping for KLP and all it’s features……let manufacturers keep up! You just dropped 4.1 JB and 4.2JB in very short succession. Key lime pie before next summer would be too early – not to the Nexus line….but to everyone else who won’t get it, let alone Jelly Bean version 2.

    • Mikej

Get a nexus, root your phone or stfu

    • xyzyxx

It’s the manufacturer’s and carrier’s fault they want to heap a bunch of bloatware and “skinning” onto their phones, not Google’s fault.

  • cliffy223

So I am guessing I should definitely buy a Nexus 4 to guarantee I get Key Lime Pie

  • spintrex

Hmmm… the hope of Key lime Pie when only 27.5% of users have ICS

    • Mikej

Get a nexus or root your phone and update it, dont bitch about it like a girl

      • spintrex

LOL I’m referring to the fact that the majority of Android users don’t root their phones and won’t be able to experience KLP with their current phones.

  • thechad

I want some key lime pie!

  • Rahul Verma

They should name it “Kaju Katli”… it is a dessert in India made from Cashew Nuts. :))

  • Bryan Stoner

He looks pretty content around the honeycomb era. Then super duper happy afterwards. Android Muffin will be a winner for sure XD

  • rogue5

I assuming Licorice would probably be the next one then?

  • jefflarkin

“At this point, even if Google was originally planning on going with some other “K” dessert for the next update, they’d be foolish to throw away the free press and mind-share Key Lime Pie already owns.”

I think this is a very good point.

    Enjoyed the graphic, creative.

  • ZRod

New Facebook cover? I think yes.

  • Oskar Wismierski

It was just a matter of time to get that confirmed :)

  • Tm

I rather get the famous picture representing the evolution of humankind from this graphic. Evolution of android in this case.

  • stenzor

“KLP” also rolls off the tongue very nicely.. even more so than “ICS” did

    • vn1gam

well KLP D is sort of an abbreviation for a slang in Hindi that does not bode well for all us Android fans!

  • Moises Rivera

I wish the updates could go out through all devices. Not having constant updates unless i root is a pain sometimes.

  • n25philly

is it just me, or does the cupcake one look he’s paying to price for drinking too much? (or too many sweets)

    • Jimmy_Jo

It’s supposed to be an evolutionary chart. Showing the Android system going from neanderthal to an upright man.

      • n25philly

Yeah I know, but that one at that size just looks like he’s puking

      • Tm

Humans didn’t evolve from neanderthals, they were our “cousins”.

  • Trevor Cameron

LMAO… I’m going with too much to drink the night before.

it looks from this drawing almost an admission of a rough start and subsequently how far Android has come. I really can’t wait to see what they do next!

  • arminla

I cant wait for KLP!! Somehow I think Verizon will not get a nexus device with it. Just might have to switch carriers when my contract is up in June.

  • bdub

Just got into a 4.2 rom a couple days ago and still trying to decide if I like it. So far not really digging the new lock screen and notification blind. Meh. Very excited to see what KL brings tho.

  • KingCrow02

    I love Google art

  • steve

    L – Lemon Meringue,

    M – Marshmallow

    • xyzyxx

M could also be Marzipan, Mascarpone, or Meringue.

      • Virtue

Yeah, but Marshmallow is just so much more recognizable that it’s the obvious choice.

  • HumbertoH

It looks key lime pie is going to be a major update :P delicious major update

  • emraan

and all the non nexus users will be left out in the dark.. hope the manufacturers start releasing the AOSP roms instead of wasting time skinning them….

  • stephen45003

I’ll probably always be one version behind :/

  • mdawg924

    I like key lime pie!

  • Harpo

It’s a miracle the little Android dude hasn’t lost a foot to diabetes yet.

  • radaan

    Can´t wait!

  • CaptainDoug

I love ICS/JB style. Hope they don’t change it too much…

    • jsfacade

The new 4.2 double pull down notification/settings is pretty awesome though.. can’t wait!

      • CaptainDoug

I like it too. I wish it was customizable though. I’m Cyanogenmod will fix that. =D

  • Pravas

Hehe funny graphics. By the way just can’t wait to see what google has to offer with the next update..

  • metacyde

What about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus? Knowing how long Verizon takes to update, wonder if we’ll ever get some love.

    • acidone

You do from the community, but officially, Verizon is slow…

  • scottm48

Key Lime Pie? I have a HTC EVO 4G LTE and I don’t even have JB yet. Hopefully these updates keep the speed up on the phones. THe jump from ICS to JB was almost like I purchased a new phone.

  • teamwoot

Key lime pie would be the coolest android name

  • gp126904

Honestly I have been pretty blown away by Androids past three updates (starting with ICS) I am very excited to see what Key Lime Pie brings to the party!

  • calmness

    So where’s the t-shirt?

  • zacks2art

Android truly has grown up. I was an iOS person for years, because the OS was much more stable, easy to navigate, and less bloated… not to mention the jailbreaks were plentiful and it was relatively easy to customize an iPhone. Luckily at the same time/rate that apple was making their products more crappy, Android was growing and listening to customers and allowing for customization. While I am not completely iPhone free yet, I purchased my Galaxy Note 2(work phone) recently and my iP5(Personal) is really starting to gather dust. About the only reason I will even pick up my iP anymore is because the plan it is on has unlimited data grandfathered, so when data runs short I am forced to revert back…briefly. I consider myself an official convert. Unless apple comes out with some new AMAZING revolutionary device in the near future, I think this is my last iPhone. Originally I meant to just keep both OS between my two lines, but those days are gone…

  • Lwinckles

Well, Key Lime Pie sounds, great, but when will Jelly Bean be rolling out to the original Galaxy Note?

    • tanman888

The Note 2 has been such a huge recent success, maybe Samsung has taken resources off this one. As a original Note owner, it’s tough to see all the cool new features but not being able to use it unless you root the device.

  • MisterLee

    This is awesome

  • tylerfoy

I look forward to seeing what google bring into play for its next Android iteration. The OS has moved from bulky to polished (jelly bean) in only a handful of years. Great work Google

  • losthysteria

    That drawing is super cute.

  • nath5

Hey lime pie is awesome, hopefully this android version is as well.

  • ATMOSF3AR

This is sick, Android V5 would be real awesome :)

  • nipunmehta7

    key lime pie ftw

  • mattkelly

Is there an ETA for Key Lime Pie? I have to say, Google is delivering!

  • Martyac

Is it just me or is Froyo throwing up in a bucket?

  • linkinmark5

KLP would great on SG S3 via Sprint, now if they dont push it out. I might just have to finally admit defeat, jump ship and go prepaid to get me some pure Google Nexus.

  • FranzVz

I still wish Jelly Bean was named Jawbreaker…

  • jsfacade

Love the use of sweets as the version qualifier… what happens after Z though?!?

  • V6ser

Android is getting too fat :’(

  • Procyon

Always excited for the latest in android

  • Russell Sprague

I am really curious to see what they put into KLP. At this point the features of JB are pretty well rounded, so I image any new features will be pretty amazing(hopeful)

  • Sarge

    The evolution of Android, funny..

  • BrotherBloat

can’t wait for what another 10 revisions will be called… XD

  • titanium man

hahah i love explaining the different versions to my girlfriend and her friends. Me: “what android version are you running?” them:”umm idk?” me:”oh that’s gingerbread.” them:”haha what??” it makes it easier to talk about and they’re funny

  • ju12zo

L for Lollipop? Just in time for the “lick to taste” feature Google Now will add to restaurant reviews?

  • mario_1603

    I like the drawing

  • parthpatels007

new version means new features :D cant wait for it :)

  • yoaj

The Gingerbread Android looks quite evil! Looks like Igor from Frankenstein.

  • mrkymrks

the android eating those jellybeans is cute

  • paladaxar

can anyone tell what is written on the KLP droid?

  • XICO2KX

    +1 for Android 6.0 *Lollipop*!!! :D

  • greyrog

A new version with some new features would be cool.

  • spidremann

Unfortunately it’ll take Sprint 1 year extra to get it.

  • JackSilverburgh

Come on Google, give us some christmas treats.. :)

  • dustingraves

    Was there ever any doubt?

  • benrashley

If keylime pie has anything that helps with battery, its worthy of 5.0! 4.2 update killed the normally above average battery on my galaxy nexus :-/ I struggle to make it through the day now….. with 4.1 id end the day with 30% or more….

  • jhagerup

I would love to have a better battery life.

  • coesterm

Neat pic; of course, I’m still waiting for Jelly Bean to come to my phone (4.1 even) so not much point in thinking about Key Lime Pie.

  • ccn_cristi

My phone is still way down the evolution line…gingerbread device.

  • nesx87

i wonder whether my (at the moment laggy) galaxy nexus will eat some of this

  • janK

By the way, if somebody wants a t-shirt with the cartoon on it, Manu Cornet is creating one. See his G+ for infos. https://plus.google.com/106154493978299996445/posts

You’re all wrong…it’s clearly Wasabi Pie.

  • Burzie

just wish i could get a taste. stupid droid x

  • jamontoast1291

Very intrigued to see what KLP brings

  • Brickerhaus

And I still don’t have Jelly Bean. I bought my HTC One S because my Nexus One would not update anymore. And now I still don’t have Jelly Bean. And now Key-Lime. I really hate HTC. I should have held out for a better phone. But my Nexus One was abysmal. And now soon I will be two updates behind on a phone that is 9 months old. I really hate Android sometimes. They need to go to the carriers and tell them what for. Tell them that this whole update thing is causing problems with people willing to buy certain phones. I just want Google Now. At least Apple supports phones for 3 years. Android umm 18 months. Not even for a full 2 year contract.

  • tehCylex

    I really wonder why 4.2 didn’t got a Code name? O_o

  • linkinmark5

I just received my JB4.1.1 on Sorint and with LTE its fast…just not consistent across the country. I travel for a living and Google Now is the best yet. Siri is in catchup mode. KLP would be nice. But who knows…..I might root if thats the only way!

  • zolikaaa666

I think Key Lime Pie won’t get so many update :S:..It will be faster smoother better but it wont be a very big change because jelly bean is very fast even now too!

  • kookeetree

Key Lime coming out and I have yet to even receive any news of Jelly Bean on my phone or tablet. =(

  • LwmHWK20

    Ohh so cute!

  • CErikM

Dang, I wish I could set that as the background on my Galaxy Nexus!

This past Halloween, I bought myself a bag of jelly beans. It seemed appropriate. Next year, I’ll have to eat a pie. Yum! Android and my sweet tooth have a close, and vivid, relationship. lol

  • rc213

Can’t wait for the unveiling of new features. Now that I have a Nexus 4 it’s much more exciting knowing they will come so much quicker to my device.

  • skinny pimp

  • David

That greedy Android! It has come a long way…. I solute this android.

  • sctrait

I’m definitely behind, just rooted to get gingerbread. Going to be a huge leap to KLP

  • nikhilverma

Android users are increasing like locusts.Let’s rule this world together.

  • digvijaya07

Lemon meringue Or Lemon Mousse ..

  • Ponsonby_Britt

“Lemondrop” could be a serious contender, but whatever it is, the android dessert nicks are marketing genius.

  • TheyCallMeZ

I think they are pushing out the main versions too fast to be honest. Like many people have said there are a number of things in JB that couldn’t have been tested.

Yes I am an android addict been using since the T-Mo G1. One thing that has always been a problem is switching calls. How can this have been an issue back in Cupcake and Still an Issue in ICS? Do the Devs not have call waiting? I think they need to slide back development a hair, get stuff stable and then crank the new release. Or maybe they just need to hire the small community dev teams for new features and have the core crew work on “core” function.

  • kr.ray.kaushik

It6 can be called Kaju – Katli as well…!!!!

  • humidity

Mmmmmm key lime pie! Nom nom nom!

  • http://n4zim.timblr.com Nazim Lachter

haha thats what i am asking myself right now, we dont know what we want until we see it.

  • ashirbadmnt

after z it will be called android x.also i dont want klp to be 5.0,a major update after 2-3 years is worthy to be called a ‘major update’.my xperia still runs ics.

I would never have thought of switching to Android a year or two ago. Now, though, it makes my iPhone look a little stale. I think Android is dragging the biggest Apple fan (me) to the dark side of phones. For tablet, though, I still choose iPad.

  • BILL CLONTON

    No one cares

  1. Love this…bring on 5.0 and here’s to hoping that it’s more stable than 4.2.

    • It’s unfortunate I’ve been hearing the same things about 4.2 JB. 4.1 is quite nice and polished and project butter is visually very nice. Google shoved features into 4.2 that can’t have been fully tested, unfortunately leading to some instability across the OS. Hopefully they smooth that over by the time KLP graces our presence.

      • MikejGuest 2 years ago

Relax, its such bs to say 4.2 is unstable. Iam running 4.2.1 on both my Gnex and N10 and there are no issues at all. In fact everything is noticeably smoother which is backed up with a 15 percent increase in my antutu benchmarks. I have had no issues, force closes or anything to say it isnt stable. It is ridiculious to say such a thing.

    • wait… 4.2 is unstable? it’s the most stable version my N7 has ever run and it’s running like a champ on my N4

but yes, it’ll be nice to see what enhancements / features 5.0 will bring.

    • I honestly haven’t had any problems on Android 4.2 (wasn’t really affected by the lack of December) and 4.2.1 is running perfectly for me.

  2. “L” is for licorice. You heard it here first.

  3. Just verifying what everyone has known for a loooong time.

  4. It’s nice. Much better than kidney bean.

  5. Exciting, I wonder what features Key Lime Pie will bring to Android?

  6. Can’t wait to see the new and exciting enhancement keylime brings

    • My guess is it will include an improved multi-user that addresses (paid) app-sharing between users. I hope they add an app data synchronizing capability so that save game and preferences can be consistent across devices. Anything else will just be whipped cream on the pie.

  7. boone simpsonGuest 2 years ago

    • I just had an epiphany. I’m using your logic, and (by the way I am not trying to make fun of you at all) since ICS “sandwiched” those features together, and Jelly Bean brought a “handful” of features, maybe Key Lime Pie will bring a huge slice of something! Like a huge new feature or something. That would be epic.

  8. I’m still on a Droid X with Gingerbread. My world is gonna flip when I upgrade my phone to Jelly Bean/Key Lime Pie. I look forward to the HUGE jump in technology.

  9. I am still holding out for Kolache.

  10. Will be interesting to see what Key Lime Pie will bring. If it will be launched as version 5.0 we should see some big new features. Can’t wait!

  12. So I am guessing I should definitely buy a Nexus 4 to guarantee I get Key Lime Pie

  13. Hmmm… the hope of Key lime Pie when only 27.5% of users have ICS

  14. I want some key lime pie!

  15. They should name it “Kaju Katli”… it is a dessert in India made from Cashew Nuts. :))

  16. He looks pretty content around the honeycomb era. Then super duper happy afterwards. Android Muffin will be a winner for sure XD

  17. I assuming Licorice would probably be the next one then?

  18. “At this point, even if Google was originally planning on going with some other “K” dessert for the next update, they’d be foolish to throw away the free press and mind-share Key Lime Pie already owns.”

I think this is a very good point.

    Enjoyed the graphic, creative.

  19. New Facebook cover? I think yes.

  20. It was just a matter of time to get that confirmed :)

  21. TmGuest 2 years ago

I rather get the famous picture representing the evolution of humankind from this graphic. Evolution of android in this case.

  22. “KLP” also rolls off the tongue very nicely.. even more so than “ICS” did

  23. I wish the updates could go out through all devices. Not having constant updates unless i root is a pain sometimes.

  24. is it just me, or does the cupcake one look he’s paying to price for drinking too much? (or too many sweets)

  25. LMAO… I’m going with too much to drink the night before.

it looks from this drawing almost an admission of a rough start and subsequently how far Android has come. I really can’t wait to see what they do next!

  26. I cant wait for KLP!! Somehow I think Verizon will not get a nexus device with it. Just might have to switch carriers when my contract is up in June.

  27. Just got into a 4.2 rom a couple days ago and still trying to decide if I like it. So far not really digging the new lock screen and notification blind. Meh. Very excited to see what KL brings tho.

  28. steveGuest 2 years ago

    L – Lemon Meringue,

    M – Marshmallow

  29. It looks key lime pie is going to be a major update :P delicious major update

  30. and all the non nexus users will be left out in the dark.. hope the manufacturers start releasing the AOSP roms instead of wasting time skinning them….

  31. I’ll probably always be one version behind :/

  32. I like key lime pie!

  33. HarpoGuest 2 years ago

It’s a miracle the little Android dude hasn’t lost a foot to diabetes yet.

  34. I love ICS/JB style. Hope they don’t change it too much…

  35. Hehe funny graphics. By the way just can’t wait to see what google has to offer with the next update..

  36. What about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus? Knowing how long Verizon takes to update, wonder if we’ll ever get some love.

  37. Key Lime Pie? I have a HTC EVO 4G LTE and I don’t even have JB yet. Hopefully these updates keep the speed up on the phones. THe jump from ICS to JB was almost like I purchased a new phone.

  38. Key lime pie would be the coolest android name

  39. Honestly I have been pretty blown away by Androids past three updates (starting with ICS) I am very excited to see what Key Lime Pie brings to the party!

  40. So where’s the t-shirt?

  42. Well, Key Lime Pie sounds, great, but when will Jelly Bean be rolling out to the original Galaxy Note?

    • The Note 2 has been such a huge recent success, maybe Samsung has taken resources off this one. As a original Note owner, it’s tough to see all the cool new features but not being able to use it unless you root the device.

  43. I look forward to seeing what google bring into play for its next Android iteration. The OS has moved from bulky to polished (jelly bean) in only a handful of years. Great work Google

  44. That drawing is super cute.

  45. Hey lime pie is awesome, hopefully this android version is as well.

  46. This is sick, Android V5 would be real awesome :)

  47. Is there an ETA for Key Lime Pie? I have to say, Google is delivering!

  48. Is it just me or is Froyo throwing up in a bucket?

  49. KLP would great on SG S3 via Sprint, now if they dont push it out. I might just have to finally admit defeat, jump ship and go prepaid to get me some pure Google Nexus.

  50. I still wish Jelly Bean was named Jawbreaker…

  51. Love the use of sweets as the version qualifier… what happens after Z though?!?

  52. Android is getting too fat :’(

  53. Always excited for the latest in android

  54. I am really curious to see what they put into KLP. At this point the features of JB are pretty well rounded, so I image any new features will be pretty amazing(hopeful)

  55. The evolution of Android, funny..

  56. can’t wait for what another 10 revisions will be called… XD

  57. hahah i love explaining the different versions to my girlfriend and her friends. Me: “what android version are you running?” them:”umm idk?” me:”oh that’s gingerbread.” them:”haha what??” it makes it easier to talk about and they’re funny

  58. L for Lollipop? Just in time for the “lick to taste” feature Google Now will add to restaurant reviews?

  59. new version means new features :D cant wait for it :)

  60. The Gingerbread Android looks quite evil! Looks like Igor from Frankenstein.

  61. the android eating those jellybeans is cute

  62. can anyone tell what is written on the KLP droid?

  63. +1 for Android 6.0 *Lollipop*!!! :D

  64. A new version with some new features would be cool.

  65. Unfortunately it’ll take Sprint 1 year extra to get it.

  66. Come on Google, give us some christmas treats.. :)

  67. Was there ever any doubt?

  68. If keylime pie has anything that helps with battery, its worthy of 5.0! 4.2 update killed the normally above average battery on my galaxy nexus :-/ I struggle to make it through the day now….. with 4.1 id end the day with 30% or more….

  69. I would love to have a better battery life.

  70. Neat pic; of course, I’m still waiting for Jelly Bean to come to my phone (4.1 even) so not much point in thinking about Key Lime Pie.

  71. My phone is still way down the evolution line…gingerbread device.

  72. i wonder whether my (at the moment laggy) galaxy nexus will eat some of this

  73. By the way, if somebody wants a t-shirt with the cartoon on it, Manu Cornet is creating one. See his G+ for infos. https://plus.google.com/106154493978299996445/posts

  74. mmmmmm….key lime pie…

  75. This needs to be turned into a tshirt design.

  76. You’re all wrong…it’s clearly Wasabi Pie.

  77. just wish i could get a taste. stupid droid x

  78. Very intrigued to see what KLP brings

  80. I really wonder why 4.2 didn’t got a Code name? O_o

  81. I just received my JB4.1.1 on Sorint and with LTE its fast…just not consistent across the country. I travel for a living and Google Now is the best yet. Siri is in catchup mode. KLP would be nice. But who knows…..I might root if thats the only way!

  82. I think Key Lime Pie won’t get so many update :S:..It will be faster smoother better but it wont be a very big change because jelly bean is very fast even now too!

  83. Key Lime coming out and I have yet to even receive any news of Jelly Bean on my phone or tablet. =(

  84. Dang, I wish I could set that as the background on my Galaxy Nexus!

  85. Any bets on the next version name?? My money is on Licorice

  86. So Cute! K all day, more sweets for my phone please.

  87. This made a nice tablet wallpaper.

  88. The Android logo has gained a ton of fame since being released. I imagine we’ll eventually see it on top of a car antenna. They still make car antenna’s right?

  89. Am I the only one who doesn’t like the name key lime pie? I honestly can’t think of anything better though.

  90. This past Halloween, I bought myself a bag of jelly beans. It seemed appropriate. Next year, I’ll have to eat a pie. Yum! Android and my sweet tooth have a close, and vivid, relationship. lol

  91. Can’t wait for the unveiling of new features. Now that I have a Nexus 4 it’s much more exciting knowing they will come so much quicker to my device.

  92. The biggest perk of having a nexus device is the quick updates. I can’t wait to see what is next.

  93. Am I the only one who thinks it looks like a slice of Kiwi Cheescake?

  94. I’m defo gonna set this as my Wallpaper!

  95. Next version of android is L. Lava cake?? Any other guesses?

  96. We’re already talking L’s? I finally rooted my optimus to put on Gingerbread. Im so behind the times. Love the graphic though.

  97. Lovely picture. I’m making this my desktop and tablet background!

  98. This might have to be set as my new Facebook cover photo. It’s super cute.

  99. Awesome drawing.
So what happens after Z? lol

  100. Next Version: Lollipop
    ANDROID LOLLIPOP

  101. KLP usually a bit too tart for me, but not when it comes to a new update for my phone

  102. Rank 2 – 25 in one day. Nice :) Now I can participate :)

  103. Why can’t google arrange for a Name suggestion poll for their popular versions

  104. the cartoon look yummy (=

  105. Comeon Key Lime! Even if it’s just a rumor, it’s still a pretty cool graphic.

  106. wonder what z would be :P

  107. i wonder what x will be

  108. lovely… just put it as my desktop wallpaper at work :)

  109. love these picutres :)

  110. i want a white ics stock theme, soo cool

  111. Lime Pie ;) Yum. Did you know that Since April 2009, Android versions have been developed under a codename and released in alphabetical order: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean And Now Lime Pie.

  112. After Key Lime Pie, will we see Lemon Tart??

  113. MikeGuest 2 years ago

    Lemon Meringue Pie

  114. Android is getting better and better, yeah gonna rule the world little green robot

  115. I eagerly await KLP.

Hopefully we will see more great things from Google.

  116. I hope somo awsome updates and about the name its great!!

  117. DavidGuest 2 years ago

That greedy Android! It has come a long way…. I solute this android.

  118. I’m definitely behind, just rooted to get gingerbread. Going to be a huge leap to KLP

  119. Android users are increasing like locusts.Let’s rule this world together.

  120. Lemon meringue Or Lemon Mousse ..

  121. Ponsonby_BrittGuest 2 years ago

“Lemondrop” could be a serious contender, but whatever it is, the android dessert nicks are marketing genius.

  123. It6 can be called Kaju – Katli as well…!!!!

  124. Mmmmmm key lime pie! Nom nom nom!

  125. Seriously… what they can add on a new version of Android ?

  126. ashirbadmntGuest 2 years ago

after z it will be called android x.also i dont want klp to be 5.0,a major update after 2-3 years is worthy to be called a ‘major update’.my xperia still runs ics.

  127. whats going to be new in the keylime pie version?

  128. my 4.2.1 update is a little bit broke!

  129. more jelly bean please oh and better battery management! !!

  130. wonder if it will be a huge update like from gingerbread to ics!

  131. Terra NuvaGuest 2 years ago
