Nexus 7 dock to launch within two weeks at $39

nexus 7 dock

For those of us who have been waiting to get our hands on the ASUS Nexus 7 dock, it’s been a long time. Here we are, some six months after the initial release of the Nexus 7, and finally, we should be seeing the official dock released within the next two weeks.

Priced at $39.99 in the US (£24.99 in the UK) the Nexus 7 dock doesn’t do much, but it’s not bad for the price. By using the pogo pins located on the side of the Nexus 7, the official ASUS dock will charge your tablet, as well provide a 3.5mm audio output jack.

While The Verge is claiming a “reliable source” has pegged the Nexus 7 dock with a two week release window, B&H Photo, the site credited with the original $39.99 price leak, still lists it as coming January 16 on their website. That’s less than a week away now. Either way, it won’t be long now.

I know there are a ton of Nexus 7 owners out there. Do you plan to buy the official Nexus 7 dock when it comes out?

I would have tried it if i had nexus 7.

    • Jorge Eslava

      Me too.

  • John Zwiers

I could set it up as a giant alarm clock. Maybe a bluetooth keyboard

  • KennyL

Nope. No need. Now if it was a wireless charging speaker dock…that would be a different story.

  • VS

Yeah, not interested. I have a leather cover over my N7 and I’m not going to take it off and on just for side charging and a 3.5mm jack. Glad it’s an option though for those that are interested.

    • raichleb

I was going to add a similar comment. I like the idea of the dock and it probably would look pretty cool on my desk. But like you, I’m not gonna take the tablet in and out of the cover every time.

  • Mac

If only it had built in speakers it would be great for watching videos or paying music and would save the hassle of connecting the fiddly USB port just to charge it – for now it’s just too pricey for what it is

  • paulertion

What’s abuout Nexus 4 wireless charger?

    • Futureboy

If the dock release date is any indication of their production time, I won’t be expecting the Nexus 4 wireless charger any time prior to May. Then, there is the question of, will there will be enough stock to prevent the seemingly endless “sold out” loop?

Personally, didn’t feel like sitting around waiting so I picked up an Energizer Qi charger. Works very well even with a slim case.

  • fletchtb

Can’t decide if I will buy this or not. It looks nice and saves me from fumbling with a cable, but overall it is not too functional.

  • txbluesman

I think I will. Just to be able to charge and use as my clock next to my bed. It will be easier to see than my phone. I must be getting old.

As the store that i purchased my Nexus 7 from had no accessories for it i had to find other options for such basic things as a protective cover, second charger, etc, and at the time the options in the country I live in were mostly for ipads and eBook readers – nothing specifically for the N7. At this time of writing this is still the case. If I can purchase official Asus-made accessories – including the dock I would do so. Unfortunately for Asus they lost all my business for bluetooth accessories due to their pathetic lack of vision with respect to what consumers want and how the tab can be used. But I would still buy 2 docks if they can get the dock into retail stores here in NZ. I still cannot purchase an official case for the N7 – STILL NOT FOR SALE HERE 6 MONTHS LATER AND THE PLAY STORE DOESN’T SELL DEVICES TO US HERE. :-(

  • Rick M

Yep, I’ll be picking it up… but not for desk or bedside use. I’ll actually be cutting it up and using it in a custom dashboard mount for my N7. Heh, looking forward to it.

    • William Drake

exactly what I was thinking! this dock and a little zebra wood and im all set.

    • Carey

IWhen u cut it send me.email on how it looks. I’m doing the same thing. In car dash install

  • Ardrid

I just want to know where the charging orb is for the Nexus 4.

    • iamXiV92a

      +1

  • Lolo

Nope, too late. I bought the Phillips fidelio and that charges and has audio output. And looks better :) If this was released at the time the N7 was I would have picked it up, but now, 6 months later, I think they’ll find not many will buy it like they would have 6 months ago.

  • jamal adam

This is cool though I wonder why I would need it for the sake of just charging my Nexus 7. Now, if this had a speaker, that would be a completely different story. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

  • Deeds

If this had come out 6 months ago, I would have jumped right on it. Now it’s just a little too late

  • papisnacks

Like another user said, I’ll be making a car mount for my N7 with this.

  • donger

About time! Who should we point the finger at Google or Asus?

  • jenskristian

I placed my pre-order about a month ago with a Norwegian retailer.

  • nobile

Great news for my Nexus :) Charge me baby ;)

  • Bolski

Why? If it somehow did HDMI output (which the N7 lacks), it might be worth it. Otherwise, it’s just a glorified charger that allows you to keep your N7 propped up for easy viewing. You can get a MoKo Slim-fit case for less than half-the price of this, which allows you to stand your N7 up at two different angles, still have access to the 3.5mm and MicroUSB ports. Plus, when you close the cover, the N7 automatically turns off the screen for you.

  • GE918

I’ll pass on the dock, there’s nothing new. Now if it would’ve had a Micro SD slot I’d be interested.

  • Heetskore

I want this, but if it’s going to be hard to find one I won’t even bother.

  • aranea

When are they going to bring a keyboard and dock for Nexus 10?

  • inviolable

I wonder if this gives any hope at all for the Nexus 4 orb to finally release. They can’t even keep the damn bumper stocked. Why is it so hard for Google to handle hardware?

  • rantmo

Yeah, I’ll probably pick it up at some point in the near-ish future. It could be useful at home to help reduce cables on my desk but maybe it will end up serving me better at my work desk, particularly once I pick up a Bluetooth keyboard. If nothing else, it could help encourage Google to expand the options for Nexus accessories.

  • phor11

It’s definitely a bummer that it doesn’t add HDMI functionality, as HDMI support is still a sticking point for a LOT of people.

But I’ll probably pick one up anyway so that I don’t have to worry about wear and tear on the micro-USB port.

  • brady

i love my nexus 7 … it aint PERFECT … but its pretty useful and neat .. .and i definitely want this dock to keep it on my night stand and look all baller status and whatnot and stuff

  • David

The official Asus nexus 7 audio dock is in stock and available to purchase directly from Asus if you have a French address: http://shop.asus.fr/shop/fr/fr-FR/Home/1-Produits/1500-Collection-ASUS/1936-Accessoires-Tablettes/2278-Accessoires-Nexus-7/90-XB3XOKDS00020-Station-daccueil-Nexus-7.asp
So why is it not already available to people in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, the rest of Europe, and the USA?

  • honourbound68

the gnexus dock was a lot more than $39 bucks and took forever to come out. this is good for nexus 7 owners.

  • Ross Winn

I wish I could pre-order. It’s the one accessory that this awesome machine lacks.

  • staryoshi

It’ll make desk use easier, so I just might grab one for my N7. Plus it looks classy :)

  • jumbojet747

I’d get it if it was available in Australia…

  • jumbojet747

Also, is this available from the Play Store? Or is it available in store from select retailers?

  • http://www.sonicboomstick.com Bryan

Seems a bit overpriced for the functionality. I’m enjoying my $22 “aluminum” bluetooth keyboard snap case quite a bit.
