While there are a lot of Android-powered devices here at CES, there aren’t many worth writing about. Fortunately for Huawei, the Ascend D2 is impressive enough to impress us. The specs on the Huawei D2 are in line with the latest flagship devices from HTC and Sony, but the design of the device leaves a little to be desired. If you’ve seen the official press shots of the D2, you might think that Huawei’s design team was taking cues from the latest fruit phone. The sad thing is, the D2 would be a much better-looking device if that were true. From afar, there are a few similarities, but you’d have a really hard time trying to confuse the Ascend D2 with the iPhone 5 once you actually pick it up.
Fortunately, the specs are enough to make the Ascend D2 a pretty interesting device. If Huawei can somehow manage to break the mold and deliver a device that can stand out in a crowd, they could easily push some of the big Android OEMs out of the way and steal a huge chunk of of their market share.
