Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S4 unveiling set for March 22, first shipment mid-April

The HTC M7 and Sense 5 may be getting a lot of attention these days, but let’s not forget that Samsung is working on the Galaxy S IV. The majority of the phone’s details are still unknown at this point, but new information has been trickling in that suggests Samsung unveil its next flagship phone in March with an expected April launch date.

According to a “telecommunications industry” cited by Korea’s Asian Economies, Samsung will host an Unpacked event in the United States on Friday, March 22 to unveil the Samsung Galaxy S IV. SamMobile has also chimed in, claiming that Samsung will start shipping the Galaxy S IV in week 16 of 2013 (that’s the week of April 15 for those of you too lazy to pull up your calendar). New details regarding the phone’s specifications indicate the Galaxy S IV will ship with a 2,600 mAh battery. An optional dock and back cover with wireless charging capabilities will be available shortly after launch.

There’s no doubt that Samsung’s next flagship device will be a huge success, but we have a feeling things will be a bit tougher this year. Sounds like a beast, but I doubt the octa core is accurate, heck we haven’t seen the quad core exynos 5 yet.

If it does turn out to be the real specs, then consider myself beyond impressed. I just hope they would use their PLS screens(the one used in the N10) over AMOLED, that’s the one thing I never liked about my GS2.

  Its legit, although its a play on words. There are 4 A15 cores and 4 A7 cores, and the phone will run on a combination of ONLY 4 at a time. So anyone who thinks they will be running all 8 is just an idiot. The more multitasking the more of the newer cores you will run. The more less intensive tasks, the lesser cores will take care of that part. Its pretty much a gimmick but im sure there will be alot of “noobs” who think they are really getting something game changing, but its really not.

    What you say is true but it isn’t really a gimmick. If anyone listened to Samsung’s Keynote at CES the reason for the 8 cores, 4 newer and 4 older is as stated, low level tasks will run on the older cores and intensive tasks like video and game etc will run on the newer ones, the key point of this feature is that they claim you get better processing power but a 70%, yes they claim 70% increased efficiency for battery life. I hope it’s true because currently my S3 has pretty good battery life but an increase in efficiency is always welcome.

I like the specs, but I’m not very fond of Sense UI. Maybe because I haven’t had it as my phone, and only use it when “fixing” other people’s phones, but it seems very rigid to me. I’ll probably root whenever I get my next phone so I guess I shouldn’t worry too much about the UI.

This phone does look like a beast.

  I find the Nexus 4 with its 4.7″ screen to be at the upper range of what I find comfortable to use for a phone(both use and pocket-ability). I love the size of the screen when reading but find it a bit to large to easily reach the entire screen area without moving the phone in my grip. Unless they can fit the 4.99″ screen into the same size housing or improve the ergonomics of the phone, it is too big for my tastes.
  
  I really hope the phone manufacturers start/continue to make high end phones with smaller housings. Not sure how much bezel they can get rid of.

  Well some leaks showed a smaller bezel so it shouldn’t be much if larger than the s3. I agree screen sizes are getting crazy but hopefully smaller bezels will make the phones stay same size while incorporating larger screens.

This is going to be tough I’m up for an upgrade in June but was contemplating getting rid of Verizon and going the non contract route with a new Nexus when it comes out but not sure I can wait that long for a new phone.

  I agree. I love Samsung Galaxy phones (S1 / Note owner) but with such an amount of pixels it must drain it very fast. For those doubting, check your battery stats and see what is eating your battery most.

Damn, sounds like a beast. This year seems to have a much better lineup than last year. So far, we have the GSIV, GSNIII, HTC M7, Sony Xperia Z, LG Optimus G Pro, and the Motorola X. Geez, and that’s not even including this year’s Nexus phone(if there is going to be one).

  How so? I mean we are only getting the same phones as last years with slightly tweaked specs and a model number incrementation but no real improvement. What I mean by this is, it is all well and good having 8 cores in a phone, HD screens etc But I would prefer phone manufacturers to focus on the battery technologies for a change give us a 6400mAh battery and fit it in to a slim case. Although it might be a beast..i suggest people to wait till Google I/O where Android 5.0 will be released before buying s4..or youll be stuck in the crying-for-updates train (if google brings out something awesome like project butter, google now, etc) just like happened with s3 after Jelly bean was announced..sammy finally gave the update 4-5 FREAKING MONTHS later..so have patience before boarding the s4 train :)

  Samsung is still the best for giving updates among the OEM. The SII which came out in Oct 2011 (in the US and May in EU) is getting Jelly Bean update.

I currently have the Samsung Galaxy S3 and got it as soon as it was released (which also involved waiting for the phone due to inventory issues with Sprint) and I LOVE my GS3!!! Having said that, after seeing the rumored specs in this post I almost feel like the GS4 is following Apple’s lead in releasing less than revolutionary devices because they can. The rumored releases from HTC and Motorola sound much more appealing…at least for right now.

Much more I’d like to see a decent tablet from with 3G/4G/LTE and HD display (1080). Seems they don’t want to do this, as the rumoured Note 8 will most likely only have a 1280×800 display.
