HTC: Sense 5 update coming to several current phones ‘in the next few months’

htc-sense-5

Now that the official launch of the HTC One is behind us, HTC has revealed that Sense 5 or at least some of its features will be rolled out “in the next few months” to a handful of HTC smartphones which are currently on the market. The devices on the short list include the HTC One X, One X+, One S and the HTC Butterfly, but that list could expand a little as HTC gets to market specific devices like the HTC EVO 4G LTE and the HTC Droid DNA.

HTC will be offering upgrades to some of its existing devices in the next few months, including global variants of HTC One X, One X+, One S and the HTC Butterfly. Also, note that some features enabled by the new HTC One hardware will not be available in the software updates.HTC

HTC posted a message on their Facebook page in response to a user question asking if Sense 5 would be coming to the HTC One X. HTC subsequently followed up with Android Police to confirm that Sense 5 would be made available to specific phones, but some HTC One hardware specific features (most likely HTC Zoe) would not be included.

While it’s nice to see HTC commit to giving their customers the latest version of Sense, the way the statement is worded makes us think that it’ll be quite some time before the update is actually rolled out. HTC One S and One X owners here in the U.S. are still waiting to get their Android 4.1 updates which were released in Europe and Asia in December. If HTC maintains its current software update speed, international devices will be updated to HTC Sense 5 in the second half of the year and carrier branded phones here in the U.S. will probably not see the update until late 2013.

Stay tuned…

HTC provide the best hardware in world, I always prefer HTC or sony inspite of Samsung black sheep race

    • donger

I agree with you on this one.

    • zmw81

      same here.

You’re right. HTC hads the best hardware. But their software is horrible. Unless you’re solely intending to root and flash a cutom ROM buying an HTC is like paying for a headache.

      • vforvortex

They are starting to look more and more like stock android with their fonts and widgets etc.. Why are they fighting it… they just need to release phones with option of stock and sense ui.

    • Renz

      Yep,i agree with you too

That was a vague promise. Some features are coming, but they didn’t say which ones or a time frame. However, can’t complain about getting updates.

Uninformed, uneducated, irrational and pointless comment. People are already tired of comments like this. HTC is doing a fine job. Who are you? Nobody.

I think the most people will want the enhanced camera experience, but you can keep that Blink Feed. However, they will give you Blink Feed and keep the camera software exclusive.

    • uknowme

Well to be fair some of the software is probably designed for the new camera.

    • Jimmy_Jo

They have to when they completely redesigned the camera hardware just as they did with ImageSense before it. But I doubt it will make much difference in the long run.

      • Paul Atreides

I see where both of you are coming from, but will the average consumer think that way? Overall, I see what HTC is doing but I’m not liking the way it’s being implemented.

        • vforvortex

It will come down to how well they market the phones if they could match how well the galaxy phones were advertised.

As a TMOUS ONE S owner I wont hold my breath for this t ever happen, if the feet dragging on Jelly Bean is any indication. Cant blame HTC for trying however.

That is super to hear, at least they are updating their last generation phones

    As an DHD owner I don’t belive HTC’s update-promises…

Dont know why.But I simply dont care at all whit this one shit and anything at all which is connected to HTC .First i ownew a desire. It was a shame what they did with the gingerbread update. Now i have a sensation with only official ics. For me HTC is = pure shame because their update strategy. And I’ll bet that half or one year later the the one x owners will write these lines too.

  • BigCiX

I don’t see at&t putting this update out at all. Guess I gotta wait on Team Venom.

  • jb

So, Google can push out updates directly to put a new G icon in your app drawer, and HTC can update their sense, but we have to wait for the carrier’s to update our OS?

  • one

As I was a HTC phone owner I will say this : their update policy is HORRIBLE !
Their prices are way too high for what they offering.
I bet with you that only one x and one x plus EVENTUALLY will get sense 5, the rest of phones “lacking enough hardware and other issues bla bla ” will not get any update at all.No sense no firmware, nothing… this policy will ruin them, that I hope so.

I am very happy to see this trend toward un-subsidized AFFORDABLE phones. I think it will benefit customers to see the real value of the phone and separate that cost from the service provider.

I love my htc DNA if I don’t get the update I am going to be pissed that’s not fair to us s consumers HTC is not a bad company but they have issues about putting out the updates I just read on the net 2 day that the DNA is running the since 5 updatethe 1 thing you can say about Apple is that they do send you updates on your phone if I don’t get the update for HTC for my droid DNA this will be my last HTC phone peace

The HTC evo 4 g LTE sucks and HTC is going down and Samsung will be up I hope they close HTC down and Samsung buys them

  • carlos

HTC keeps people that its a sprint problem when HTC is the one who made the phone not sprint HTC need to recall the HTC evo 4 g LTE and give people a better phone.

  • shashank

    Htc desire x sense 5??

  • James Lee-Sanderson

Why the hell does the Desire X have almost identical hardware than the Desire 300, in some cases even better, but doesn’t get an update. HTC make awesome phones, but way too overpriced if there will be no updates for it at all.
