AT&T updates its Samsung Galaxy S 4 pricing, 16GB model to carry $199 price tag

Roughly 24 hours after AT&T announced that its 32GB HTC One would be priced at $199.99 with a two year contract, the company has released an update regarding the pricing of the Samsung Galaxy S 4. While AT&T said that the Samsung Galaxy S 4 would be available to pre-order on April 16 for $249.99, an update to the page now shows that the original price was in reference to the 32GB model.

AT&T will also be offering a 16GB Samsung Galaxy S 4 which will be priced at $199.99 with a two year contract. It was also revealed that the Galaxy S 4 should hit AT&T stores on April 19th.

The lower priced 16GB Samsung Galaxy S 4 will go head-to head with the 32GB HTC One. Out of the box, the HTC one definitely delivers more bang for your buck, but the consumers who go with Samsung’s flagship do have the option of expanding the phone’s storage with a microSd card.

Since these details were not made available last week, there are two possible assumptions which can be made:

  1. After seeing AT&T’s price for the HTC One, Samsung made a quick pricing adjustment with AT&T to that the Samsung Galaxy S 4 would carry the same $199.99 price tag as the HTC One
  2. AT&T was planning only to offer the 32GB model up for pre-order on April 16th, a scheme which would add some extra padding to AT&T’s corporate wallet due to high consumer demand for the Samsung Galaxy S 4.

Which of the two assumptions do you think is more plausible?
