Redesigned Google Play store start rolling out today

The redesigned Google Play store that leaked last month is officially rolling out today. Google just announced that Android phones and tablets running Android 2.2 (Froyo) and above should start seeing the new store today, but it could take a couple weeks for it to hit your device. Highlights of the redesigned store include a focus on bigger images, similarly themed content that is grouped together, new recommendations, and a simplified purchasing process.

We haven’t seen the new update appear on any of our devices, but we will be on the lookout. Let us know if you were lucky enough to receive it, and share your thoughts on the new redesign in the comments below.

Update: The fine people at Droid-Life have a mirror for the new Google Play store 4.0.25. Install at your own risk.

    I will be waiting definitely.

It feels like Google is aiming towards a more simple and lighter user experience. Maybe this is a sign of things to come in KLP?

On topic: I like the overall look of the new Play Store(haven’t gotten it yet). It looks very inviting, modern, and clean.

I really hope you are right, and now wish I lived in the US. Waiting for the update… will probably have forgotten about it by the time we get it.

I haven’t gotten it yet on my nexii 4 or 10. I’m looking forward to it.

I like how google isn’t stuck in one thing and tries to improve user experience even though it may mean an overhaul unlike you know who (hint it’s a fruit).

But doesnt this article already have the link to Droid-Life that has the download/mirror link that you provided? :)

  • vforvortex

I downloaded and installed it. (make sure to check the unknown source box in settings > security). Fully functional and works very well and seems a bit quicker.

Also it is keeping in line with their Card layout UI similar to google now and chrome. I like how they are streamlining it all. good work.

I’m really liking it so far. It’s smooth and I like the card layout. It brings much needed simplicity and ease of use, the apps are front and center. Looking at this and the old one is like looking at Gingerbread and Jelly Bean, at least to me. Great job Google.

It’s a beautiful UI and a definite upgrade to the user experience. It makes me excited about what’s to come for Android. Now, if they could roll out an update for the Play Music app…
