DroidLanding Verizon Twitter account reactivated; new Droid launch imminent?

droid eye

It’s been nearly two years since Verizon’s DroidLanding Twitter account, used to promote new Droid series devices using cheesy robotic language and B-movie quality special effects, has uttered a peep. Today,  June 18, is the day we will remember as the day DroidLanding rose again.

We have absolutely no idea what the DroidLanding Twitter account could be preparing for, but you can bet it will be something big. The tweet doesn’t reveal any details on what Verizon’s working on, but it does assure us that, whatever it is, it’ll be going down in true Droid fashion:

Reactivation protocols initiated ::: Systems nearing operational status ::: Stand by for further instructions...DroidLandingTwitter

Could it be as simple as Verizon giving away some phones for the summer? Is it to announce a new Droid device? If so, from whom? Motorola? HTC? Right now, we have more questions than answers. Feel free to speculate on what Verizon has in the works in the comments below. And remember, Droid does.

Update: Verizon has posted a corresponding video to YouTube and game to the Play Store (D:Com) centering around giant mechs. The video shows the mechs in a number of locations across the U.S. and the game puts you at the helm of one of the mechs in a multiplayer augmented reality battle.

I’m guessing it’ll be for the HTC One on Verizon. But if that’s the case I’m surprised it would get Droid branding. I hope I’m wrong, would love to get excited for some new devices.

Maybe the Moto X/XFON/whatever that is supposed to come out soon? I’m really hoping for a total surprise.

Here is to surprises…I dont have verizon, so i am not that excited. Verizon better not “phone block” another good device with exclusivity though. because that is annoying.

Just imagine how us Verizon users feel the past year or so…

At least you get some of the flagship products, even if they are delayed.

I am so happy I ditched VZW a year ago! I missed the Droid (had a G1) but was there for the Droid X (LOVED that phone), the TBolt (yeah, not so much love), and the GNex. Nothing good has happened since then over there for you guys so I ditched them at the right time for phones! Also loving my $135/mo bill for 5 accounts (varying 2GB to unlimited data) over at TMo over the $240 3 line (varying 2GB to unlimited data) when I was with VZW. I even get better reception!!

Nice. But every carrier gets flagship products, not just Verizon. And they (AT&T and T-Mobile at least) get the luxury of importing unlocked phones. Stupid CDMA.

VZW has me hooked on their unlimited data. I tear through at least 8-10GB every month. It’s cheaper for me to buy a new phone 1-2 years than it is for me to pay the overages on a limited data plan. I pay less than $90 for unlimited text, data, and calls to ANY mobile (got a special promo that I read on Engadget long ago that they did in East Texas and Western Louisiana).

It’s about time for a DroidX3 (Moto XPhone?)

Yuck, a Droid branded HTC One…

As a VZW user, I’m stoked to see what the future holds as far as the Droid Brand goes. Perhaps its the high end Motoroogle/Googarola phone we have all been hearing about. Or perhaps something completely different entirely. Here is to new phones and higher specs!

    • Michael nakoneczny

Sadly there’s already been spec releases for the “MotoX” (whichever monicker you Would like to use) which are not very “awesome” as seen here http://m.cnet.com/news/moto-x-phones-rumored-specs-dont-mark-the-spot/57589592
      Or herehttp://www.geek.com/android/moto-x-details-surface-point-towards-a-good-mid-range-phone-1559196/
      Check it out :-/

Yeah that’s why I didn’t refer to it as the “Moto X”. I said perhaps it’s the high end Motorola Google phone we have heard rumors about. The Execs at Motorola have hinted at “Big” things down the pipeline(once some of the already in the works phones are out of the way) Or it could be something completely different.

Please don’t make it the One a DROID brand..

My bet is that it’s going to be a DNA 2 since they’re practically hosing the remaining DNAs off the stock shelves and there seems to be some commonality between the DNA and the Butterfly launches. They’ve recently announced the Butterfly 2 with a 5″ 1080p Super LCD-3 display, 1.9Ghz Snapdragon 600, 16GB of storage and get this: Micro-SD slot.
Could this finally be the high-end HTC with replaceable battery and expandable storage?
