Back in early July, Android and Me was the first site to bring you news that Motorola would use an 8-core chip developed and manufactured in partnership with Qualcomm, set to be used in the Moto X. Today, at the Droid Ultra, Maxx and Mini unveiling event, Motorola took the wraps off that chip, sharing some information on performance and how the new Motorola X8 Mobile Computing System works.
As we previously detailed, Motorola’s X8 Mobile Computing System will utilize 8 different cores to split up computing tasks, making for better battery life without suffering in performance. According to Motorola, by using their X8 Mobile Computing System, CPU performance will increase by 24 percent while graphics performance will increase by 100 percent.
Two cores in Motorola’s X8 Mobile Computing System will be used for application processing, four will be used for graphics, one will be used for “contextual computing,” or sensor processing, and the last for natural language processing. We already have an idea on how the natural language processing features will work on the Moto X. Motorola confirmed that natural language processing will always be active, even when the phone is in standby, ready to act on voice commands.
Motorola isn’t holding back when it comes to which devices will use their X8 Mobile Computing System. The Droid Ultra, Maxx and Mini will all feature the chip. Whether or not the Moto X will do anything special with it remains to be seen, but you can bet it will be inside.
