New Nexus 7 press photos; Best Buy leak shows July 30 release date

nexus-7-refresh

Can’t anyone keep a secret anymore? The updated Nexus 7 has already appeared on camera, but the press shots without all the reality of finger prints and real lighting can be fun to take a look at.

Best Buy is also contributing to the cause with their leaked flyer below. The slight price bump to $229 for the 16GB model is reaffirmed. The flyer also places the arrival of the new Nexus 7 as Tuesday, July 30th which would be a day ahead of most previous rumors.

Much like the Moto X this is more confirmation rather than revelations since we have seen full spec lists from a variety of sources. Here’s the full breakdown of what we have heard (italics indicates less certainty):

  • 1.5 GHz quad-core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 600)
  • 7-inch screen at 1920 x 1200
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 5MP rear and 1.2MP front-facing camera
  • 16 or 32 GB of storage
  • 4000 mAh battery
  • 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC
  • Wireless charging
  • Notification light
  • Slim port for 1080p video output
  • Android 4.3

It would have been nice to see Google stick to the sub-$200 price point for the Nexus 7, however considering the spec sheet on this revised Nexus 7 it is actually a bit surprising that they are managing to hit $229. Safe bet we’ll be hearing more about the new Nexus 7 from Google this week so all will be revealed soon.

So assuming you don’t win yourself a current Nexus 7 in our contest who is going to be picking up the new Nexus 7 at the end of the month?

I like that they added a notification light like on the galaxy nexus and nexus 4. Also the increased screen resolution is a welcome addition over the original nexus 7

I hope they sell a 32gb version. I’d definitely buy it in a store over that fiasco from Google.

No question there will be a 32GB version at $279.

Edit: Just realized you probably meant from Best Buy. It’s fairly common for them to only list the cheapest option so I wouldn’t rule out their carrying the 32GB by any means.

I must say 4 GB of ram is insane! Any idea if it is DDR3 or not?

    • http://www.technogasms.com Sean Riley

I haven’t seen multiple points of confirmation on the RAM, but yes the source that indicated it was 4GB did say it was DDR3.

Still no sd slot? I’ll pass.

    • tc

That would be lame if it has no sd slot.

  • melinda87

oh, the beats studios are $249. I get the beats then!

  • hurracayne

Looking forward. I want to get the 32 gig. My daughter can have my 1st gen N7 32gig.

  • sdmark

I agree – I’m glad they are selling in store right away. The first dale sale fiasco on the play store with the n10 (c’mon 4.3) and n4 were AWFUL!!! unless it’s $100 cheaper online, I will not be buying from the play store again.

  • scaarg

My precious! I was waiting for you. You didn’t disappoint me.

With the resolution that price tag is crazy!

  • grimmdev

What an amazing device, thanks for the information android&me :]

  • tc

Its most likely 2gb of ram. Highly unlikely that its 4gb.

  • da9el

    all in all: a beast!
i’m going to replace my old nex7 :) i’m fine with 16 gb of storage so far.

Looks pretty damn impressive in terms specs. An S600 with a 1920×1200 display AND 4 gigs of RAM for $229? That’s a complete bargain. This blows the iPad Mini out of the water even more than the original N7.

How can you expect it not to as far as price as concerned when google obviously loses money or breaks even on them. Apple is used to 30% profit on devices so if the math is done that means the iPad min would go for 230. Now if you shift costs from quality materiels that the iPad mini has to hardware such as the high res screen…. Makes perfect sense. I just wonder if this strategy is actually working for google. The average iOS owner spends near triple on apps than android so it doesn’t seem to work there. So they must have to recover the money from ads. Mobile ads pay something like half as much as computer ads. Google has drastically missed the last two quarterly reports (good portion of the miss is because Motorola sucking hundreds of millions of loses) but I still wonder, does that strategy of making no money on hardware work? There is no doubt tha google has made large inroads in the 7in market but the iPad continues to dominate market share, plus makes 30% profit where google makes 0 and then makes 3 times more App Store profit.

Last curiosity, what does the nexus 7 go for in Europe. In many countries there the practice of undercutting prices to drive out competitors is considered anti competitive and illegal.

Google doesn’t really care if you “buy” apps as long as you’re using their services such as gmail, search, etc and most will use google services when they buy an android tablet, so it’s a win for google regardless.

  • mojomoney

Looks pretty sweet, but I’ll probably wait until my first gen N7 meets its end. I may, however, become less careful about keeping it away from my toddler in order to speed up that process.

Arg. Why can’t OEM’s put that resolution in ultrabooks!?

  • renz

so which processor will it be? Snapdragon 600 or S4 Pro? at such low price i don’t believe we will get Snapdragon 600 though

  • Chuckster

I would buy this, but I hate how the Nexus 7 is playing catch-up with the Nexus 4. I stopped using my 7 almost completely when I got my 4. Unless there is going to be some game-changing feature, I’ll be saving my money for the Nexus 5.

  • kevin

I am interested, but I learned my lesson and will avoid the first batch. Also, I really hope Asus improves the screen quality with this model. The screen used in N7 1 was so washed out, it was a huge disappointment for me as an e-book reader.

  • Miguel Menendez

I don’t like the design specially the circle around the camera its horrible. The original N7 was better they spoil it.

  • Mike B

I was going to buy an ipad mini today, but for the price and what you get, I think I can wait a few days to see how this pans out. I think I will be going with Google.

  • karmcoma

I don’t like the design of this one as much as the original, but those are some nice specs.
