Android 4.4 KitKat update coming to Motorola’s Moto X and new Droid handsets

Motorola is following HTC lead, revealing that all versions of the Moto X and Droid Maxx, Ultra and Mini will receive the latest Android 4.4 update. The details come from Motorola’s support site which also lists the update status for its other phones. The Droid Razr HD, Razr Maxx HD and Razr M are listed as “future plan coming soon” which does not give us much confidence. The Droid Bionic, Razr Maxx and Droid 4 all fare a bit worse as Motorola’s site confirms they will not be updated past Android 4.1.2.

For now, we do not have any dates to tie the Moto X, Droid Ultra, Maxx and Mini Android 4.4 update to, but we suspect Motorola will keep us updated once they have more solid information to share.

I am excited. I bought the Moto X yesterday, and am happy to actually have a phone that gets updates.

Thats because you have a new phone. Of course its gonna get updates. Every recent phone is getting the update to 4.4 The ONE, the GS4, etc. Not sure why you picked the disappointment that the X is. The ONE, GS4, and G2 put that to shame. But you can pick the color, im sure thatll make up for it.

He may got it as he wanted it!

Coming from a guy who has had all 3 of those phones and works for AT&T as a rep, you have no idea what youre talking about. I’m assuming your dissing the moto x due to its lack of specs, when ironically the moto x is the smoothest performer out of all the new flagships. It also has the most useful features compared to anything. Blinkfeed is just nothing that awesome and neither is any of the s4′s gimmicky features. active display and and touchless control whips the ever loving dung out of any modern phone. lol

in all fairness, if you wipe either the one or sgs4 and put stock or CM on , they to are much smoother. i personally haven’t played with the X (UK), but love the look of it and the Wife is a fan of smaller devices, i like phablets .

however the rumoured moto G, is comming to the UK fo £185 , it looks superb for the price 1.2ghz quad core, may be the wifes or my lads next device. its like a budget nexus5.

Yea Ok Andrew. Doesnt matter if youre a rep, doesnt mean a thing. Fanboys in general have been sucking Motorolla since Google bought them . The X is not even close to the ONE or the GS4 or the G2, and ive used all the devices as well. Specs matter. The X has a gimmick as well, the active listening, its no longer exclusive, i have it on my ONE right now, and have the Google Experience Launcher which eliminates Blink feed.

I love all the gimmicks of my Moto X. It really is the best phone I have ever used.

Awesome! Question is…when will VZW release this update?

    • Mike K.

Anytime between a week and 3 years after the rollout on other carriers. As is VZW custom.

Google really lets Verizon have their way. I thought the Motorola purchase by Google would be advantageous, but it’s been to the detriment of Moto products. My RAZR MAXX was a great phone when it rolled out along with the lapdock. They are the LAST Googlerola products I will buy. I blame Larry

The razr maxx was before google bought moto. That was the old moto.

I’m pretty sure the Moto X will get updates a lot farther into the future that the Droid line.

Just get a piece of that KitKat bar.

Rocking a Motorola Droid Mini here in the UK. Love the phone. But how will I get this update?
