HTC tweets update on Android 4.4 rollout schedule for One, DROID DNA

Just a few weeks after initially laying out its Android 4.4 rollout plans for its flagship One smartphone, HTC has taken to Twitter to provide a bit of an update on the situation. The company first touched on the Verizon-flavored One, which is still on Android 4.2 because of a last-minute delay that pushed its Android 4.3 update out of its original October release timeframe. HTC says that the Verizon One will receive a small update this week to prep it for Android 4.3, with the full-on update slated to hit in December. The 4.3 delay isn’t expected to affect the Verizon One’s update to Android 4.4.

Speaking of KitKat, HTC says that it’s on track to deliver a combo update to Android 4.4 and Sense 5.5 to all North American One models by the end of January. No details regarding specific carrier rollouts have been given quite yet.

HTC also took a moment to address the DROID DNA and its helping of KitKat. Verizon customers that are still rocking a DNA as their daily driver will be glad to hear that the device will receive a bump up to Android 4.4, which is slated to roll out before the end of the first quarter of 2014. As with most updates, though, the exact timing could vary depending on how the carrier certification process goes.

We may still be a little far out from the Android 4.4 rollout for the carrier-branded One models; so, the whole situation is still a tad fluid at this point. Still, it’s good to see HTC keeping an open line of communication with its customers regarding important updates. Here’s hoping that the testing process for the operator-specific HTC One variants goes smoothly so that owners can get 2014 started off with a tasty KitKat treat.
