Qualcomm Toq smartwatch launching Dec. 2 with $349.99 price tag

Qualcomm Toq smartwatch

After officially introducing us to its Toq smartwatch over two months ago, Qualcomm today revealed when we’ll actually be able to buy the thing. The Qualcomm Toq will officially go on sale on Monday, Dec. 2, complete with a price tag of $349.99. The watch is compatible with devices running Android 4.0.3 or higher and packs Qualcomm’s Mirasol display technology, which the company claims makes the Toq readable in direct sunlight and helps to provide “multiple days of battery life.” Also included is support for Qualcomm WiPower LE wireless charging tech.

On the software side of things, the Qualcomm Toq can display a user’s text messages and various notifications, and it also allows the wearer to accept or reject phone calls. There are stock and weather apps from E-Trade and Accuweather included as well. Qualcomm says that it plans to add more features to the Toq through future software updates, but it didn’t offer up any hints as to what those new features may be.

The smartwatch market is growing quickly, with companies like Apple, Google, HTC, Samsung and more all either selling smartwatch hardware right now or reportedly prepping some for launch. The Toq isn’t likely to take over the smartwatch game because Qualcomm itself has said that it’s a “limited edition” that’s meant to be a demonstration of what its technology can do for smartwatches in general, but the Toq is still a nice-looking piece of hardware that could be worth a look for anyone with a real interest in the smartwatch category.

I like the way the Toq looks soooo much better than the Galaxy Gear. I’m still not willing to pay that much, and I still really like my Pebble, but I feel like Qualcomm is headed in the right direction.

Did I mention that I hate the look of the Galaxy Gear?

I quite like the blame and silver gear. in the UK last week I noticed phones4u, was giving away Gear with note3 contracts, This week it’s galaxy tabs.

        Grey and silver^

I really liked this when I first seen it, still do, but by the time it hits UK is going to be £300+, at £200 it would at least make me contemplate a purchase, but not at this price. Shame.

I love the idea of mirasol display. Qualcomm is pushing things in the right direction. Was it water resistant?

The Toq probably won’t become that popular, Qualcomm more wanted to display their new technology, you can find my research on their new technology here
