Samsung Galaxy S III Android 4.3 update rollout commences

Unlocked versions of the Galaxy S III (GT-I9300) have started receiving the Android 4.3 update. Samsung had originally promised that the update would be delivered before the end of October, but we’re willing to forgive the tardiness of the update because the new software comes with quite a few enhancements.

As always, the update for carrier branded versions of the Samsung Galaxy S III is not available yet. The Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III variants are expected to receive the Android 4.3 update later this month. Samsung has yet to announce its Android 4.4 update plans, but we suspect the Samsung Galaxy S III will make the list due to the handsets vast market share.

Samsung Galaxy S III Android 4.3 changes

  • Samsung Galaxy Gear Support
  • TRIM Support
  • ANT+ Support
  • TouchWiz updated to match Galaxy S4
  • New Samsung Keyboard
  • Updated GPU drivers with improved benchmark scores
  • New Lockscreen
  • New Screen modes: Adapt Display and Professional Photo
  • Daydream
  • Driving mode
  • Actionable notifications
  • Move-to-SD-card feature
  • New Camera mode : Sound and Shot
  • New Samsung Apps: Calculator, Clock, Contacts, Gallery, Music
  • New S-Voice (from Galaxy S4)
