While Google’s Nexus devices get new Android updates before other phones and tablets, we’ve seen in the past that the Google Play edition hardware typically isn’t too far behind in receiving the same updates. That’s the case again this weekend, as it appears that two GPe devices have started to receive their Android 4.4.2 updates less than a week after the software began rolling out to Nexus products.
As noted by Droid-Life, the Google Play edition versions of both the HTC One and the LG G Pad 8.3 are in the process of being updated to Android 4.4.2 this weekend. Screenshots of both devices running Android 4.4.2 have made their way online, and while there haven’t been any official announcements regarding either update, HTC has posted kernel source and framework support files for the GPe One’s 4.4.2 update to its official HTCdev developer site. There’s no word yet on when the other Google Play edition devices will begin getting their own tastes of Android 4.4.2.
As I mentioned before, we’ve seen that Google Play edition products usually get fresh Android updates shortly after they begin hitting Nexus-branded hardware, so it’s not a surprise to see that the GPe HTC One and LG G Pad 8.3 are already being updated to Android 4.4.2. That doesn’t make this news any less exciting, though, and I’m sure that owners of both devices are pretty happy with their GPe purchases right about now. Here’s to hoping that the Android 4.4.2 rollouts for the other Google Play edition hardware are slated to get underway shortly.
