Sony Xperia Z1 compact shrinks the flagship phone back down to 4.3-inches

Sony-Xperia-Z1-f-goes-official-compact-but-still-as-powerful-as-a-flagship

The spec sheet on the Sony Xperia Z1 mini comprises a 4.3-inch 720p (343ppi) display, quad-core 2.2GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB of storage, microSd card slot, a 20.7 MP camera and a 2,300mAh battery. Based on its specs, the Xperia Z1s is simply a miniature Sony Xperia Z1. The phone does not feature anything that we haven’t already seen from Sony, but it is the first 4.3-inch device from any manufacturer in nearly two years that comes with flagship level specs. Like the Xperia Z1s, the Zperia Z1 compact is water proof with an IP58 rating, allowing the phone to be submerged in 4.9 feet of water for 30 minutes.

The Sony Xperia Z1 compact comes in white, black, yellow and pink. Pricing and availability were not released during Sony’s press event. One thing we’re looking forward to is other manufacturers following on Sony’s footsteps by delivering a “no compromise” smartphone with a smaller display.

Finally someone created what people always asked for: a high-end smartphone below 4,5″. I love what Sony did here!

Oh this is rich. I spent all of 2013 complaining about the lack of high-powered midsized devices. I liked my Xperia V, but ultimately I wanted just a little more power.

I would have loved a Moto X, but it can’t be had in Australia (not without spending $800 on a grey import without LTE, anyway), so I finally succumbed to the big-screen trend and bought a Nexus 5.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the N5, but my long-standing complaint of big screens being bloody annoying for my stubby little fingers remains a major gripe for me.

And then Sony goes ahead and announces a powerful midsized device. Urgh!

Did they mention anything about price?

I think Sony was smart in providing a high end smartphone in a smaller package. There are many people who don’t want large screen phones and this will cater to those people without having to force them into buying something that is too big. Sony!
There is a space for this phone and Sony has listened. Bravo Sony!

this phone is almost same size of galaxy s4, only screen size is smaller, believe me.

      What are you talking about?
      Galaxy 4: 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9
      Sony Z1 Compact: 127 x 64.9 x 9.5
It’s 1 cm lower and 5 mm narrower.

      Just for comparison, Moto X is 129.3 x 65.3 x 10.4 and Iphone 5 is: 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6

I am delighted that Sony decided buyers who want under 5 or 6″ are worthy buyers too.

The trend to dumb down smaller versions (= anything smaller than a floor-mat in Chevy Suburban) of the lead device is not only seriously getting on my nerves, but also leads to radical purchase refusal, stomping feet, pouting lips and overall crankiness.

Another positive of the Sony: a ton of frequencies.

So I’ll have a good look at the Z1 compact as soon as it becomes available.

I love the fact that you forgot about the XIOMI Mi-2/2S series. 2012-to mid-2013 top level specs in 4.3″. Get your data right!
