From the developer of DashClock: Muzei Live Wallpaper

If you haven’t heard of Roman Nurik, it’s about time you have. You’ve at least heard of DashClock, right? Well, lets start back to the time when I was introduced to the work of Roman Nurik through DashClock, apparently 1 year ago. Roman is an Android developer who works for Google. He’s often taking to social media informing the world about different android app design guidelines regarding the user experience and visual design, something he is a pro at. DashClock was instantly a huge hit as a homescreen and lockscreen widget (especially when lockscreen widgets were initially introduced with Android 4.2) that allowed a beautiful way do display a lot of useful information. Now, Roman is releasing his next project, Muzei Live Wallpaper, and I’m sure it’s going to be another hit.

Screenshot_2014-02-11-20-23-12_xsxnexus520140211_202636According to Roman, “Muzei is a live wallpaper that gently refreshes your home screen each day with famous works of art. It also recedes into the background, blurring and dimming artwork to keep your icons and widgets in the spotlight. Simply double touch the wallpaper or open the Muzei app to enjoy and explore the artwork in its full glory. Alternatively, you can choose your favorite photos from your own gallery or other apps to use on your home screen. To keep your wallpaper fresh, Muzei will rotate through your favorite photos every few hours.”

In addition to adding beautiful classic artwork to your homscreen, Muzei is apparently developer-friendly. This won’t appeal to all of you, but Muzei is open source and offers a simple API that allows one to build their own wallpaper source that should look very similar to those who worked with DashClock. So if your favorite images aren’t appearing on Muzei now, throw some money at your nearest developer or learn how to use APIs and keep the wallpaper joy coming.

I’ve obviously already got Muzei plugged in on my Nexus 5? Who else is stoked on Roman Nurik’s latest work? It’s available now in the Google Play store and requires Android 4.2+. I love a good wallpaper app. Let us know your thoughts and excitement by commenting below.

I’m glad I read the article on it, because the video looked cool but I couldn’t tell exactly what it did by being a live wallpaper from it. He works for Google, then he should implement his solo apps into Stock.

I think you’re asking about Action Launcher. I have a link in a comment above for action launcher. Check it out and let me know if that wasn’t what you were asking about.

    WHAT ABOUT BATTERY LIFE?
Is it a live moving wallpaper or just changes artwork daily.

Confused.. He works for Google but develops his own Android apps aside from Google. How does that work

But are those projects things owned by Google or employees are allowed to spend 20 percent building their own businesses

Thanks. Couldn’t remember what it was called. It’s early.

It only switches pictures once a day I believe, and it’s not interactive. So, my guess is little to no effect on battery life. It just came out last night so today is my first full day with it. I’ll be sure to update the post if it kills my battery life, which I doubt.

Also, yes. I know Google has allowed it’s employees to do side projects in the past. I can’t remember what it was called, something like the 10% rule. It’s how lots of cool things came about like Gmail if I’m not mistaken. Or Roman’s got a ton of free time.

Would be nice if you had option to un blur the image for your lockscreen. Otherwise you cant really appreciate the art. I’d also like some more historic information on the art vs just basics. I assume it would be easy via Wikipedia or even Google s own Goggles. App

Otherwise, it reminds me of the Blur App which you can use to Blur (to whatever extent you want) any image or photo of yours for wallpaper. I get this will supposedly automatically change daily.

You can Un blur. Just double tap it. It re blures in few seconds.
