Photos of Samsung Galaxy S5 leaked right before Samsung’s event

Samsung Galaxy S5 leak 1

Samsung’s newest flagship, the Galaxy S5, is supposed to launch here at Mobile World Congress today. In fact, we’re only hours from the official event which will unveil the device, and so far, we’ve had very few leaks of the physical product. We’ve seen the back through a case, and we’ve seen a few renders of the device, but we haven’t seen anything like this. Today’s leak of the device shows it off in all its glory, right before we were about to see it officially.

The first thing that comes to mind when seeing the device is the menu button has been replaced by a multitasking button! That’s quite a big change for Samsung to make, but a welcome one. It’s almost as good as on screen buttons! The leak also shows off the new square based design, the KitKat-based software, and a weird new textured back. There seems to be a strange sensor or second flash near the main flash, and there is a cover over what looks to be a USB 3.0 port on the bottom.

In terms of size, it looks to be slightly bigger than the Galaxy S4. The bezels are strangely quite a bit thicker than the previous generation flagship as well. This makes me wonder if it’s the lower end of the two Galaxy S5 models, and the higher end model will be a bit slimmer. This is unfortunately a bit unlikely though, but we’ll find out soon.

It’s awesome to see the device right before the launch. We’ll see it unveiled officially very soon, and maybe Samsung will have a surprise for us in store. Hopefully the device won’t be a disappointment. What are your thoughts on this leaked device? Look through the gallery, tell us your thoughts in the comments, and stay tuned for the official announcement!

I honestly don’t believe that this is the true design for it simply because Samsung did this before. They put the phone in a random casing to hide it from people and people can still test the phone but not know exactly how it looks. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have the galaxy s5 just chilling there for people to grab it. I’m pretty sure they would prefer showing it for the first time on stage to the world, and I bet only the CEO has the only official copy. (A man can dream, right?)

Well looks like it is the final design

  • surethom

I guess this is the lower priced version & there will be another higher end launched tonight aswell???

I hate USB covers like the one on my Xperia S. I do hope the S5 has Wireless charging as standard so I dont have to open the USB charging port every day.

The back does look ugly & very Cheap looking. Not nice.

smh it’s exactly the same as the S3 and S4, Samsung stock is about to drop like crazy.

I really hope its just a decoy back as ElvisonD says and the real one reveals on the event.

  • wow

The mulitasking button replacing the defunct menu button is a step forward BUT the look of both the front and back is like 2 miles back in the wrong direction. It just doesn’t look good at all.

  • Sborkel

Am I the only one who realized this is the S5 Active?

    • Sean

Active?? Not even close. That’s their regular back cover and regular speaker openings. I guarantee this isn’t the Active version.

I agree, this is definitely not an Active.

Sticking with my Note 3, has been the best phone in a long time with the HTC one. I can’t see anything coming close for a while unless apple WOWS this year. Smh that S5 is just ridiculous. Why would anybody buy that??!

Why do I need a multi-tasking button? I can long press the home button. I rather have a menu button that I can always find. I have the multitask on my work phone and I hate it. I rather see Samsung get with the program and place the buttons in the same locations as every other manufacture does. I go between multiple devices and Samsung is the only one with the back on the right.

Glad they are sticking with off screen buttons. Why take up screen real estate with buttons. Used my buttons Nexus 5 and there’s so much space at the bottom under the screen not being used. Fine they don’t have to be physical buttons, but they could be capacitive and give me my screen.

I’m so disappointed. Samsung used to lead the market with their hardware… 2GB RAM? SD 800? Why is the Note 3 still the better device? What are you doing man…

  • Subx

I don’t think that this is the real deal. I thoughtt be S5 was rumoured to be dust proof and water resistant ? If that is the case, then why do we have an SD slot with a cap? Wouldn’t it leak?

I understand the 2.5mm Jack can just be closed off to the rest of the device but fail to see how this would work with an SD slot.

    It’s alright.
