Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 update now making its way to users

note3

Sprint’s version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is now receiving its update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, just as we expected it would. Both Samsung and Sprint have confirmed that the update’s rollout is starting today, Feb. 20, bumping the 5.7-inch phablet up to the newest version of Android and bringing several other improvements as well. Here’s Samsung’s full changelog for the N900PVPUCNAB update:

  • OS upgrade to Android 4.4.2 (KitKat)
  • New Lock Screen Access
  • Media Controls – full-screen album art and media controls when listening to music
  • Camera Shortcut  - access the Camera application right from the lock screen
  • SMS App Chooser – select a default application for sending and receiving SMS text messages
  • Restyled Status and Navigation Bars – status and navigation bars are translucent and can sit on top of apps, along with simplified status bar icons
  • Consolidated Location Settings – location services are integrated and more detailed by new Location menu
  • Expanded Emoji Icons
  • Wireless Printing — supports printing over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Prevention Information pop-up message is suppressed.

Sprint has been doing pretty well recently when it comes to pushing out Android updates out to its flagship hardware. The big yellow carrier has already managed to release Android 4.4 to its HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 before most other U.S. carriers, and now it’s the first in the States to update the Note 3 to KitKat. This is notable because, in the past, CDMA carriers have typically been slower to push updates than their GSM brethren.

If you’re rocking a Sprint Galaxy Note 3 and haven’t yet sunk your teeth into your KitKat treat, you can perform a manual update check by heading into Apps > Settings > General > System Update > Update on your device.

There is like a 3 or 4 second delay when unlocking to the camera from the lock screen. It was much faster swiping from the side. I don’t understand why they changed that in Android. I understand if it’s want obvious before maybe a small comment to let the user know. Maybe it’s just slow on the Samsung phones when unlocking to the camera.

Have you done a factory reset after they update? On the phones I’ve owned, when an update was done, it got horribly slow. It got solved by doing a factory reset. Not sure if it was apps I had or something else.

Yup just got it this morning, downloading while I drink my morning coffee doesn’t get any better than that.

If Sprint could figure out a way to get their service as fast as their updates they would be on to something.
