The HTC One (M8) has only been official for a couple of weeks now, but already rumors of a couple of spin-offs of the new flagship are swirling. First we got word that a mini version of the M8 may be in the works, and now another variant of the device has leaked.
An image posted by @evleaks claims to show the “HTC M8 Ace.” The device has a design that’s similar to the One (M8), but it’s donning a red color that’s not yet been worn by that device (although that option is rumored to be coming). And while the screen of the M8 Ace is blurred out, the device appears to be displaying the green BlinkFeed screen found in HTC’s Sense 6 user interface.
HTC offered two variants of the One (M7), the smaller One mini and the larger One max, and so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a couple of different versions of the One (M8) as well. Unfortunately, we don’t yet know what makes this M8 Ace unique. Considering how frequently the One (M8) leaked before its official debut, though, it may not be long before more details of the Ace come to light. Stay tuned.
Update: Since the HTC logo was roughly the same size on all of last year’s One devices, we pulled the new image into Photoshop to see how big the device could be. Our results show that the HTC M8 Ace is smaller than the HTC One (M8), but larger than last year’s HTC One mini. This makes the Ace a perfect candidate to play the role of the HTC M8 mini which is expected to features a 4.5-inch display.
