Samsung, Verizon confirm Galaxy S5 camera failure bug

galaxys5reartopaam

Earlier this week, we got wind that some owners of the Verizon Galaxy S5 were experiencing camera issues with their shiny new smartphone. The devices were said to be presenting a “Warning: Camera Failed” message whenever the user tried to snap some photos. Now Samsung and Verizon have confirmed the issue and offered those affected a solution.

Samsung has told The Verge that it’s aware that a “limited number” of Galaxy S5 models are being presented with “Camera Failure” error messages. The company says that anyone that’s running into the bug can call 1-888-987-4357 or visit their carrier to exchange their defective unit for a new one.

Verizon has also issued a statement on the matter. The big red carrier took to Twitter today to say that any of its customers that are being greeted with the “Warning: Camera Failed” message can contact the @VZWsupport account to resolve the problem. Verizon says that it will issue a replacement unit if necessary.

There’s no word yet on exactly what’s causing this camera failure, but the fact that the bug renders the Galaxy S5’s 16-megapixel shooter unusable makes this a pretty big issue. The good news is that Samsung and Verizon have acknowledged the problem and are issuing replacement models to anyone affected. Obviously having to send in a broken GS5 and set up a new unit isn’t ideal, but hey, at least doing so means that you’ll have a working camera again.

Have any of you been hit by the “Warning: Camera Failed” bug?

I get this error all the time in my Galaxy S3 and my Samsung tab 3. Could it be a bigger issue with Samsung and android compatibility?
