Samsung Galaxy Alpha could bring its metal-clad body to market as soon as next week

Samsung’s oft-rumored metal Galaxy Alpha could have a launch and release as soon as next week. Rumors have swirled for months about the Galaxy Alpha, suggesting that it could be a premium Galaxy S5 to a device that now appears to be similar to the Galaxy S5 Mini. The device may feature a 4.8-inch 720p display and 32 GB storage, while still retaining hallmarks of the Galaxy S5 like a fingerprint scanner.

At this point, it’s hard to pin down whether the Galaxy Alpha will simply be a metal Galaxy S5 Mini or whether it will be more than that. One thing is for sure, though: the timing of the release is well thought-out. A launch date next week would give the Alpha three weeks in the spotlight before IFA, where Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy Note device. With a release coordinating with launch, Samsung could have a shot at reclaiming some of the mid-range market.

This device will have to offer significant improvements over the Note 3 in order to justify an upgrade at the expected price point. Upgraded display, and processors along with a metal body will go a long way towards motivating me and other Note 3 users to shell out a not so small fortune for the Note 4.
