When Motorola’s Moto 360 first became official, the tech community went nuts for its sleek, traditional round design. Today, reputable Samsung blog SamMobile is reporting that Samsung is working on a round smartwatch of its own to go head-to-head with the Moto 360 and recently-teased LG G Watch R.
Unfortunately, details on the smartwatch are scarce. As of right now, SamMobile doesn’t even know if the device will run Tizen or Android Wear. But if Samsung really wants to compete with Motorola and LG, we believe there is a good chance the device be powered by Android Wear.
It looks like, thanks to the compatibility and availability of Android Wear, Google is doing to the smartwatch market what it did to the smartphone market some years ago. By the end of next year, we’d be surprised if every major Android phone manufacturer under the sun didn’t have multiple smartwatches with multiple price points and designs running Android Wear.
Samsung’s round watch probably won’t be ready in time for IFA, but a SIM-enabled Gear will be. We’ll be keeping an eye out for both. Just in case.
