Sony gives glimpse of unannounced small tablet, smartwatch in new image

Less than a week after we got wind of an Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact thanks to a Sony user guide, it appears that the unannounced slate may have been accidentally revealed by Sony itself.

On a Facebook page advertising its new SmartBand wearable, Sony posted the image you see above of a person holding a white tablet and wearing a black smartwatch by some water. The thing is, we don’t know of any official Sony products that they could be.

The tablet is white and looks to have a screen that measures 7 or 8 inches. Since both the Xperia Tablet Z and Xperia Z2 Tablet have 10.1-inch displays, a 7- to 8-inch tablet could qualify as being “compact” compared to Sony’s previous slates.

Meanwhile, it’s tough to glean much information about the black thing strapped to this person’s wrist from this image alone. If we had to guess, though, it’s possible that this could be a new member of the Sony SmartWatch family. The SmartWatch 2 debuted in mid-2013, so it’s about time for a new model to debut.

Since both this unannounced tablet and wearable are next to a body of water, it’s also possible that they could feature some water resistance. Outside of those few observations, though, there’s not a lot that’s known about either product.

Sony is holding an event for IFA 2014 in Berlin next month, so it’s likely that we’ll learn more about one or both of these devices then.
