Ahead of Verizon’s Voice over LTE (VoLTE) launch later this year, the big red carrier today gave us a new window of time in which we can expect to see LTE-only phones launch.
Speaking at a conference earlier today, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo revealed that his carrier plans to launch its first LTE-only handset in the first half of 2016. That’s a tad later than the 2014 LTE-only release window that Verizon gave us last year.
One of the ways that Verizon sells itself to consumers is its network quality, and so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Ol’ Red wants to make sure that its VoLTE service has a solid foundation before selling a phone that totally relies on that service for phone calls. We just hope that the first LTE-only device doesn’t get hit with another delay. We want all VoLTE, all the time!
