Lenovo VIBE Xtension Selfie Flash hands on

At CES we usually get a handful amazing smartphones and tablets to play with, we were quite thrilled to play with the new Lenovo VIBE Xtension Selfie Flash. The name is quite long, but the smartphone accessory is actually very simple. The Lenovo Selfie Flash (sorry Lenovo, we’re not going to write out that name every time we talk about your new accessory) features 8 LEDs in a small ring that connects to your smartphone via the 3.5mm headphone jack. Plug it in, launch your camera app and snap away. The 8 LEDs are powerful enough to illuminate your selfies to your hearts content. We tested it out in a dark room and were able to capture a well-lit image which would have been completely black without the Lenovo VIBE Xtension Selfie Flash switched on.

While Lenovo’s Selfie Flash works natively with Lenovo’s camera app, it can also connect to any device that has a 3.5mm headphone jack. The LEDs will not illuminate on their own, but you can manually switch them on by pressing a small button on the back of the device. For now, Lenovo isn’t planning to launch the VIBE Selfie Flash in North America, but it will be available in Europe and Asia in April for $29.
